A Smash Ball appears! The tension rises. Since it gives you an attack as powerful as the name Final Smash implies, everyone will battle frantically to get it.There it is! Get it! Get it!You can’t get the Smash Ball by simply touching it. You have to bash it and smash it many times until the player who breaks the Smash Ball gets it.
The Smash Ball’s endurance diminishes with each hit and with time. How should you pursue it? Even this becomes a battle.Yes! I got it!Once a character gets it and begins glowing on standby, he or she just does a standard special move to unleash the Final Smash. Just press the B Button without any directional input.
It depends on the particular Final Smash, but simply pressing the button at a random time or place might not work to your advantage. Some can be dodged fairly well...So pick a position that your move will strike from. Or create conditions under which you will definitely hit your foes. Do all of this while glowing on standby. Now just jump up and fire off that Final Smash! However, if the character on standby gets hit, he or she may fumble the Smash Ball!Even if someone gets it, attack is often the best form of defence!Do you use it as soon as you get it? Or save it for later? Do you run from an enemy who got it? Or do you chase him? You’ll need some instantaneous situational decision-making!
And then there’s an element known as the Pity Final Smash. Once a significant point advantage is reached, the losing player is given a bonus chance. When you get this, you will reappear after a KO in Final Smash standby mode. It’s OK to give this out, isn’t it?Now, if you don’t want to use Final Smashes whatsoever, you can restrict the appearance of this item in the Item Switch. If you just turn Smash Balls off, you’ll be set.
The game-changing Final Smash. Using it is fun. Running from it is fun, too.

This is a CRAP UPDATE! Nah, just kidding. It's okay. The only good parts are the screenshots...and knowing you can turn them off. Who is ever going to turn them off. I know I will have to...because everytime I would play against my school friends they would go,"AHHHH, that's a fluke, you got a Smash Ball!"

I'm thinking I should check the updates weekly instead of daily. These are killing me.

You know, the respawn platform looks kinda funny up close.

^ Maybe it is a special "Pity Final Smash ball respawn platfrom?"
Not a horrible update but it could have been much worse and it was good to get the info on the Pity Final Smash as well.

I know I will have to...because everytime I would play against my school friends they would go,"AHHHH, that's a fluke, you got a Smash Ball!" The Tourney Players. They hate items, so while they can turn the Smash Ball off, they still have to worry about the Final Smash being used as a Desparation Move. And to think, the tourney players are COMPLAINING that the Final Smash follows the mold of a Desparation Move common in SNK Fighters and Guilty Gear.

I remember Samus (or whoever) dieing about 3-4 times within a minute in that E-for-All video before getting that Pity FS so I don't think tourney people give much of a hoot since the other one won't be winning anymore anyway.
Also not trying to defend those runts here, but tournaments don't use items because of the random factor, tourney people don't hate it like the plague. Except for that one guy here 'n there who insist items are for scrubs and FD is the way to go and he actually sucks at tournaments so screw him.

it's sorta an OK update, but I knew about this already! Thank goodness for this being a double update.

I've not been with everyone on the whole "filler update" thing so far - I figured Sakurai has shown a bulk of the information to turn us into the drooling daily-watchers we are now... But this update? It's almost reaching.
At least we got awesome music today too ;D I'd have been happy with just that!

Christ! What is with these updates. The best thing all week was "Real men use items". This is getting very old. There had to be more then shitty updates left. Zelda's special moves at least.
Looks like the hype for this game is dying.

Or did anyone think that the delay may have had an effect on the quality of these updates, but rather than announce all the awesome stuff now and have lame updates towards the end, that he might be doing it the other way round? So we're going to have lame updates for now, but in the run up to the game's actual launch we should get some more awesome ones. Also, I imagine some of the reason is to draw attention away from Smash and put it on Nintendo's actual Christmas launch catalogue. And yes, I 100% believe Captain Falcon is now an unlockable character once more

The fact that you can beat the Smash Ball out of someone is pretty important, I think. I don't think today was filler.

But, I think Sakurai should space them out a little better. There are other modes I'd still like to see that were in Melee (such as Multi-Man Melee). I'm sure he has a few left, but I'd like to get some clumped in with the bad. Then it will at least be bearable.

We already knew about most of this, but the update isn't a complete waste of time. I was ready to skip past this one altogether, but then the Pity Final Smash came up--that is actually really interesting. The fact that it's given to someone when they suck enough is pretty cool; it also means that my brother, who loves Smash Bros games but is horrendous at playing them, will get a fair chance to even the score.
And when I say he's horrendous, I mean that--assuming you need to be about four points behind the player in third place in order to get one--he'd probably earn four or five Pity Final Smashes a match, if not more.
I love playing with him though. He's such a good sport, and he's great fun to team up with.

This is by far the least lame "lame" update - it goes into actual details about the Smash Ball (yes we all knew this from E4All but whatever), Pity Final Smashes (which was reported from E4All but not widely known - hell not even widely known here at this forum apparently), Item Switch (which we assumed was coming back but had no confirmation), and that the Smash Ball is considered an item and can therefore be turned off (which we probably assumed but never really knew for sure).
Quit yer complainin', melonheads.
