I also live in the U.S., and I don't want him playable BUT, I guess it's because I stopped playing Mario RPG before I even met Geno. I've decided to play it again.
Also, I've never owned a SNES, so I think PAL regions should play it the same way I am...if you know what I mean...

Anyone have sales numbers for other SNES RPG's of the time for comparison? Here are the Fina; Fantasy salesAs you can see, the only time it was above 1million in the US was after 7 (Other was always lower then US). So, for a RPG, it did pretty well. Especially for the time as it beats out most of the older FF games. I did notice something though. It seems SMRPG only sold .64million in the US. It's still good for an RPG for the time, and I think we must remember the reason sales are low for the game are the same why RPGs don't preform as well as other genres.

I think when you skim Gamefaqs or Smash World Forums or NSiders and see all these guys clamoring for Geno, and then seeing all the folks fighting back, you can at least realize that the character is worth fighting over. When people start going on about Sora, the revolt isn't as drastic as it is with Geno. There's something IN the character that makes that possible.
When Mario RPG came out, it was a BIG wizzleING DEAL for me and my friends. And it stayed that way up until college. There is not a single soul I have met outside the internet who was a gamer during their childhood and did not want to play (or enjoy if they had played) Mario RPG.

I don't dislike the character with great intensity, it's just I think there are better characters out there to fill roster space Anyway my reason for replying was 'If you don't know who Geno is, and you live in America or Japan...You don't know your gaming history...' Fatass talks about Geno like he's fucking Mario or Sonic... in fact a lot of people who want him in Brawl do that and that's what's pissing me off. Only one more month and we'll see who's in. Until then I'm still hoping for Chocobo/Bowser Jr. instead, sorry.

A lot of people are saying the roster won't have room for him, and many folks are finally settling down about it. I still would love to keep my hopes up, but none of the spaces seem open for Takamaru either so I'm trying to just be happy about Pit and Meta Knight and leave it at that

Well, with all the rumors that are out right now Geno is 50/50. Aren't pretty much all wanted characters 50/50? (50% chance they're in, and 50% chance they're not)

What's Krystal? 40% in, 40% not in and 20% artificial colours? Leak confirmed. Her voice actress took credit for Krystal's voice in brawl. She's in in one form or another. Though 20% artificial colours seems about right.

Krystal is 27% and we all know it. Also, Ness is approximately 1/4 and Olimar is 3.2.
Geno is not a major character. It's as simple as that. Super Mario RPG is an excellent game and I was crushed when it was cancelled here. I still enjoyed it a few years later when I played through it. But Geno is not a major character, not a particularly impressive character. I have no idea why people are clamouring for him. The same goes for Krystal and Ridley. WHY!? I don't want numbers, I want to know WHY they should be in. And good answers - not "to boost the representation of xyz (Metroid/females/etc)". That's a crap answer.
It seems people have forgotten how to discuss these things, and instead invoke phoney maths based on nothing at all, or arguments citing things that Sakurai has blown away time and time again with his often unusual and unexpected choices.

The answer is because they're cool, and have a lot of fans.
I know it's also cool to not like what seems to be the majority opinion. I think that's where most of the angst on this board directed toward those characters comes from.
Ridley is easy, because he appears in most of the Metroid games in one form or another, and he's probably the most remembered character after Samus.
Krystal is a popular character, and also a female, and Brawl could use a few more females. Now, I know the whole furry thing comes up with Krystal, but you're dealing with a series that has anthropomorphic characters, so that's unavoidable. I think most of the angst toward Krystal is either people that think all of her popularity is due to furry-fans, or people who think she does not keep in touch with Star Fox's roots. And that's simply a different opinion, and contrary to a lot of other Star Fox fans.
Now, for Geno. I bought SMRPG the week it came out. I read about it in Nintendo Power, and I saved my money. I was fairly young back then... It was actually the first RPG I ever played. That game was pure awesome, and Geno was one of the characters that I still remember fondly, and one of the characters that (for me and many other people) represents that game and how great it was. And I know I am not alone. The problem with Geno, again, is that a lot of people think he's awesome, which causes other people to instantly hate him, because it's cool to hate what's cool. The point which is not valid with Ridley or Krystal is valid with Geno, though. He is not an important character in any shape or form. (I disagree that he's unimportant to SMRPG, but that's a different argument.) That being said, there are a lot of people out there that loved SMRPG and loved Geno, and Geno as a fighter or AT would be a dream come true.
But when it comes down to it. People are clamoring for these characters because THEY LIKE THEM. And do people really need a better reason than that? People would say the same thing about your obsession with Takamaru or other obscure Nintendo properties (not to say I do, I'm all about obscure Nintendo characters).

Geno was a kind of nifty character, but let's face it. Geno's real name is ??!? (the heart and the note might not come out correctly on your browser, switch the encoding) and is a star spirit. The look and name of Geno is a doll. Just like Barney.

If you skim the 2channel forums (Japanese message boards), they ALL want Geno. It's not just us or the guys at SWF or the dudes over at Gamefaqs. If a character rings that much STILL in the memories of a fanbase, who are we to argue their validity as a possible selection. Again: we are all just angst-ridden over not knowing the final roster. It's ruining us all. But if we sit down and discuss this like men (and a woman or two ), we will come to realize that none of this really matters. Geno is just as likely as the next suggestion, for all sorts of reasons. Why can't we just spend time speculating about them, and keep our feelings positive? Every time somebody mentions "Geno would be ____ in SSE" or "Geno's Specials would be ___" on SWF, they get everybody into a Geno argument. It's like everyone wants to sound intelligent and be in the right, like THEY'RE the ultimate authority on what is Nintendo and Smash Bros. I'm starting to hate it. Let's just go back to the positive and FUN speculation. I may not want somebody like Ridley being playable, but it's still fun to think how he'd behave and move and feel. Am I right, guys? Imagination is the key! ...>.> *cough*
