blogs.ign.com/phoenixdragoon/2007/12/25/75196/Now I'm assuming he e-mailed the Square-Enix in the US, because he doesn't mention having to translate their message. Likewise, if that's the case, would the American side of Square know what the hell is going on? No less reveal the character before Nintendo in a dinky e-mail? Regardless of the case, I just got a dose of reality once more EDIT: Fantastic quote, I think, from a guy at Smash World Forums: "If you don't know who Geno is, and you live in America or Japan...You don't know your gaming history... ...and those who don't know their gaming history should not have a say in this" Their thread on this is going crazy with Geno haters and naysayers. Oy... EDIT 2: The plot thickens... Just found this today: www.supermariolegacy.com/index.php?p=v3ssbbse

LAWL Why does everyone mess up that quote like an idiot. SMRPG weas a big title and is holds a special part in people's hearts. No one cares about Tin Star. There is a reason not many people know of these games.

Every game holds a special place in someone's heart. Super Mario RPG is no more of a 'big title' than a fuckload of games that aren't going to have a character in Brawl.

No one cared about Ice Climber but apparently five people held it dear in their hearts (4 votes and Sakurai).

Geez, sorry I threw that quote in there. Now you guys are just ignoring the point of this thread.
The original link was an e-mail from Square to the poster that basically said "Nintendo has not contacted us yet about Smash Bros. Brawl," the same jargon Inafune said about Mega Man. But that doesn't matter because you guys are just going to hate rather than listen >.>

Everyone is going to say that they haven't been contacted if they are asked - there's no way they will say "oh yeah, they're in", and silence could be just as incriminating. So I doubt it really means anything either way.

Every game holds a special place in someone's heart. Super Mario RPG is no more of a 'big title' than a wizzleload of games that aren't going to have a character in Brawl. Here one thing I'm suggesting (and this may sound mean). If you live in a PAL territory, don't talk like the game isn't big. None of you guys have the same experience as we in America do. It's easy for you guys to say that the game was no big deal and that no one cares about the character. I know a lot of people who would love to have Geno in. There is a great number of Smash fans who want Geno in, but they are mostly in America and Japan(or at least I assume). So yes, there is a reason people want Geno in Brawl, much like there is a lot of hype around a sequel that may never come. Remember that we do have different experiences. At the least, take this into account: the game sold 2million+ between two regions, and one of which doesn't like RPG that much (they didn't get a large enough fanbase in the West till FF7) and lots of people want to see the character again. As loud as the fanbase is, there is a sizable number of people. You can tell just by the sales numbers. Sorry to get on a high horse, but the people who seem to be arguing he's small time are people from PAL areas. Now, one an actual note, what was this rumor about? May someone give me the details?

2 million still seems like a fairly small number for a Mario game released at a time when Nintendo was dominating the market. XD

Living in the U.S., I can say that yes, Super Mario RPG was a big deal. I have it, but it's not my favorite Mario RPG (Paper Mario for the GC is). Anyone have sales numbers for other SNES RPG's of the time for comparison?
