While it’s true you can battle over Wi-Fi, your connection environment and the distance between players can cause great changes in speed. That fact probably makes you a little uneasy.
So, we conducted an online battle between Nintendo’s headquarters in Kyoto and the development team in Tokyo. The distance between Kyoto and Tokyo...is nearly the same distance between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Here’s the video of that match.Click here to watch.

Nice! So I guess it is officially confirmed that the Sandbag is an item now. I wasn't sure if the Sandbag was an item like many were saying for days. So the distance between Los Angeles and Las Vegas would be about what? 220-240 miles? So that means from where I live, I can play Wi-Fi with other Smash players in Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and possibly Key West and even Daytona Beach, at least for minimum slowdowns. Anywhere farther and it might lag. EDIT: OMG! The Japanese version confirmed the Jumping Board from Super Mario Bros. as an item! I was also unsure about this one like Sandbag! Very cool! I wonder if the other languages each have different versions?

I can probably battle with people all along the north east without any trouble I guess.
There was one pause in the US version, right after Samus did her final smash... but the Japanese version had no lag.

Looks like the Japanese version is the only one different from the rest of the world. But still awesome videos!

It's about 310 miles or 500 km... Says so in the UK Update!
The US video was probably one between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, because you don't just pull cities out of thin air. =P

I'm past 700 posts!!!!I'm happy to finally see some video of online play on the site, it looks quite good. The only thing i noticed was there was no speech bubbles of text when someone taunted but that might have been not in that build of the game. Thanks Parrothead for pointed out the Japanese version. Now looking at Google Maps lets see who I can battle with . . . Errrrrrr . . . Well . . . Half of the tiny communtity of Nintendo fans down here I guess. (Anyone want to move a little closer? Like say . . . 200,000 miles?)

This is the greatest UPDATE EVER! *sarcasim* Aghh...who cares... You use the word "sarcasm" often. Learn how to spell it. Also consider using it less.

Suddenly I have a feeling that a Europe versus West Coast USA match won't work out very well..

What I observed: - Sandbag as an item!? And that jumping board? - Ike has a thick voice. - The victory screen is a mix of the Nintendo 64 version and Kirby Air Ride. - The delay between the time up announcement and the result screen is a tad longer in the American vid. - An item that makes you keep shooting once being equipped... was it confirmed before? - One of Sonic's taunts is "You're too slow" - COOKING PEOPLE IS FUN!

Suddenly I have a feeling that a Europe versus West Coast USA match won't work out very well.. Maybe for one on one matches but I assume there will be a fair bit of lag due to the 3000km distance ;D I was impressed by both videos but if Mario wasnt a CPU then why did the guy keep running into the bumper over and over. hehe. Also, on the japanese version at the victory screen Snake's rear makes another appearance

- An item that makes you keep shooting once being equipped... was it confirmed before? You mean the Super Scope? Anyways, after watching this, and every other video, I noticed Smash Balls appear every 30 seconds. I'm sure it can be changed, but that seems the default.

Ike's voice is scary in the Japanese video. The American one sounds whinny in comparison.
