Toon Link It’s Link’s other incarnation—Toon Link. He has a slightly comical expression and big, catlike eyes.
But with his light footwork and variety of colorful weapons, he's not to be trifled with! Toon Link's Special Moves Standard Special Move Hero's Bow Side Special Move Boomerang Up Special Move Spin Attack Down Special Move Bomb Final Smash Triforce Slash
Tips Those who have played Link should enjoy playing Toon Link, too. As a rule, the special moves are the same.
The abilities themselves have various differences, but in the main, the only things that have changed are the following: He runs fast!! His attacks are speedier, but at the expense of more modest strength. He’s lighter in the air—like a feather! His head is bigger, but his body is smaller! He doesn’t use kicks! Well, I guess his legs are a little too short... All he can do with his feet is throw people judo-style.
His most distinctive midair attack is the downward strike. This down midair attack causes him to dive onto opponents, so it’s great in battle. Strike from above!! Also, he’ll take a step forward when he does a second side smash attack. Ah, it feels so good. His range of attack to the rear is good too. <Side Special Move: Boomerang> You can change the way the boomerang travels with this attack. Aim up or down by tilting the Control Stick up or down. That much is the same as Link.
However, this isn’t the Gale Boomerang, so it doesn’t wrap foes up. It does have the ability to go extremely vertical, so it’s a more adaptable throwing weapon. Of course, the design is different, too.
<Down Special Move: Bomb> Toon Link’s bombs are also a little different from Link’s. Look at the smoke from the explosion! The attack strength of Toon Link’s bombs is lower than Link’s, but the big difference is that since no one can see them well, they tend to take a brief glance and think they’re weak attacks.
But since the blast radius is greater than many people judge, it's easy to hit with these bombs...and easy to get caught in their explosions yourself. Use them with care. The blast radius is twice as big as Link’s.
<Final Smash: Triforce Slash> This move doesn’t differ much from Link’s, so use it in the same way. The Triforce effect also gets a kind of Toon-ish feel. As with Link, there’s one secret to hitting with this Final Smash.
The beam that shoots out and launches the attack has a long range, so in order to reduce the risk of losing the Smash Ball, many people try to put some distance between themselves and the opponents before using it.
However, if an enemy is right in front of you, it’s easier to aim and the attack can also cause momentary paralysis, so you may want to close in. Plan to use it as you would a counter move or strong attack. The enemy gets caught and the beam flashes out! Don’t think you have to use it as soon as you get the Smash Ball. If you use the boomerang or something to stun an enemy first, you'll surely be able to hit with ease.
Also, I think Toon Link is good to use against bosses, but other people don’t seem to think so. A matter of taste, perhaps? Deal with the likes of Duon and Porky with downward strikes!

I am so gonna miss those fire arrows that Young Link had in melee. Oh, well... it's for the best, I suppose. I take it that screenshot of Toon Link with the red shell is in the SSE, seeing that the red shell isn't actually in this game as an item anymore?

Well, besides their move sets, I'm kind of confused between the Young Links and the Toon Links. I thought the Toon Links were the Young Links of today, because according to the Adult Link and Young Link trophies in the English version of SSBM, Link was young in Zelda 1, which the official Link artworks used for it look like he's young. Also, in the Japanese commercial for Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels (SMB2 in Japan) and The Legend of Zelda, Link's voice sounded young. I thought there are only two official types of Links: Young and Adult. I know there are many different Links according to Eiji Aonuma in an interview with Nintendo Online Magazine some years ago, but that doesn't mean that every Zelda game is a remake. In the GBA version of ALttP, Link's voice samples were taken from the OoT and MM Young Links, which most likely means that the ALttP Link is another Young Link. Even though, the Phillips CD-i Zelda games used the same art style of ALttP artworks, and made Link sound like a teenager, that's unofficial because Nintendo wasn't involved in the development of the CD-i games. Some of the official artworks of ALttP were later used in LA and the DX version of it, while the LA sprites were recycled for OoA and OoS. Link looks young in the official artworks of OoA and OoS. We know there is a Young Link in OoT, because that's the one the SSBM Young Link is based on. Not only that, but it's also based on the one in MM, which we also know. Now for the Toon Links from TWW, FS, FSA, TMC and PH, they look and sound young, but a lot of people including developers didn't care if they are young or not. Most people called them Wind Waker Link, Cat-Eyed Link (Japanese people), Celda and Cel-shaded Link. Now Toon Link can sometimes confuse people, because there already is a Toon Link, and that would be the one from the Zelda cartoon by DiC Entertainment. To avoid confusion, let's called the old Toon Link, "DiC Link" (pronounced "deek Link"). Now I recently heard that Miyamoto and Aonuma are planning to connect the plots of every Zelda game (excluding the CD-i, Satellaview and G&W versions) by creating several more Zelda games. Also, Miyamoto said that the OoT Young Link and the Toon Links of TWW and PH are equal, according to this.

As Link or Toon Link, jump above them and just keep spamming your down+A. Link will keep bouncing, and you can keep repeating. The boss just keeps attacking the ground. I totally called this ;D

Toon Link, Young Link, whatever. I like the regular Link better. I'm actually surprised they bought him back for Brawl.

I find Toon Link is waaaaay better than Link (or Young Link for that matter) but that's just my opinion. His down slash is easilly his best move.

I like Toon Link. He's much better than normal Link in my opinion. His smashes seemingly have more oomph, and his speed increase is very welcome.
He does have a few other differences from normal Link Sakurai failed to mention - his Up Smash is just one powerful strike, not three. His Spin Attack juggles opponents on the ground. And while there is a mention of his Down Air, it doesn't say that Toon Link zooms straight down when he uses it, unlike Link's more controllable, slower version.

Toon Link REEKS of power. You don't see it in brute force like Link, but he is sooo much easier to KO with. It's ridiculous how easy it is to be good with Toon Link. He's the Fox/Falco of Brawl. All that said, for you out there who don't have the game? Toon Link has some sick costumes. He gets the Dark Link treatment, but he also wears the other three colors of the Four Swords. His final costume, my fave, is "old-school Link" with the brown hair, brown sleeves, and yellow brim to his cap. It's sexy as hell

I felt really giddy finding out Toon Link was playable when the game leaked in January; the style spurned by Wind Waker was just so fluid and unique and awesome that it influenced future Zelda games. Really, I think I enjoyed Wind Waker more than Twilight Princess because of WW's stylized nature - even though the game is shorter, even though it's a generation old, even though it was cartoony. Then it turns out the character plays in the same fast, fluid method brought on by his characteristic looks that he's one of the most interesting newcomers to get behind.
Couple that with his sheer expressiveness and you've got a winning character. We thought Wario and Dedede had great facial expressions when seeing them in screens? Toon Link puts them to shame with an incredible range of expressions and whatnot. He's wicked awesome.
EDiT: Oh, and the purple Four Swords Adventures Toon Link color scheme is my favorite in the whole game. Much ♥.

I was really against having a Toon Link / Young Link in Brawl, but his classic Zelda 1 costume made it totally worth it. I always pick that costume.
It also helps that he plays a lot better than Young Link in Melee. I sucked with him, but I love playing as Toon Link.

I think the two directions OOT made for Zelda both carry parts of the old Zelda ways. Wind Waker has the designs that seem almost like sprites come to life, I think, TP has the thrills in dungeons.
I'd also say TP Link and Toon Link are the first two Links to show personality. TP Link wants to grow up and move foward, and does farming chores and swordfights generally. Toon Link's still a kid, wants to stay with his family, does neighbor chores like helping bring pigs to a family, and he's not as interested in fighting at first. I think Toon Link's taunt with him looking around shows that perfectly, as that's what he's more likely to do than TP Link when he has the chance. Also the Ordona Link would do a fancy sword sheathing victory pose, Toon Link's gonna go hunt down a stray pig: It's a chore of his, I think it seperates the two Links more than any other Link before, really.
Plus, now Link won't be fighting himself. Two Links not related and in different timelines fighting is less... odd.
