Properly it's adventure mode. And while yes it should have a story, it's still perfectly fine without one.
Sonic was probably added after SSE was complete.
The thing is the "This world" stuff seems to have nothing to do with SSE at all. Nobody refused to fight. The Butterfly man just decided that he was going to take a bunch of places for no reason whatsoever.
I do agree that you have a valid point though.

LOL @ the Butterfly man. Good one!
It would had made sense if Tabuu saw that no one wanted to fight and that's the biggest taboo in the world of trophies and that's why he decided to blow them up or something. I mean, he is called Tabuu for a reason, you know?

Did Link lose Epona and that's why he is with Yoshi? Well, Link was just wandering the forest that Yoshi just happened to be sleeping in. Since they are both heroes, they both decided to fight.

I think the idea is that Master Hand created this world where trophies become "real" and act like the characters from their respective universes, except they constantly challenge each other... for honour or something. Remember - this IS a Japanese story! I've watched all the SSE videos on YouTube and I do agree that it seems some of the characters were shoehorned into the storyline for no real reason. It's a tale of friends and foes uniting against a common enemy. It doesn't make total sense, but it's not a bad story by any means.

I don't think it was intended to be an intricate story but it clears up some things about the Master hand and the world they live in. Funniest cutscene was where Lucario senses Snake inside the cardboard box and then lifts it and the "!" appears above Snakes head. That was classic, i LOL'ed

Why gripe on the Mario enemies? I actually know why they were the only ones represented. Bowser was actually one of the two main enemies, alongside Ganondorf, in the SSE. Ganondorf doesn't have an army, meaning no Zelda enemies, but Bowser did have an army, and was on the bad side, so he added his army into the mix. Why no Waddle Dees/Doos? Because King Dedede wasn't on the bad side, so didn't send them out. Same goes with other series. They had nothing to do with the whole plan. See? Perfect explaination. Sakurai=Mastermind. Other theories=screwed. EDIT: It also makes sense for another reason. Why the hell would other series enemies decide to fight the characters if there wasn't a main enemy from their series alongside Ganondorf and Bowser? It all makes sense!

I still think the rest of my theory is liable.

The Gannondorf in Twilight Princess didn't have Iron Knuckles or Moblins, the Re-deads are not afffiliated with him, and the Darknuts are simply a small group of personal bodyguards, no more than a dozen. Hardly an army. And in Twilight Princess, the Bublins (genaric goblin enemies) are led by King Bublin, not Ganon. They only serve him because there king thinks Ganon is the strongest being in the world. After he is defeated by Link, King Bublins and all the Bublins leave Ganons ranks, so no army there. Seems I went a bit off topic.

the Re-deads are not afffiliated with him Hmm, maybe you should read the Melee trophy... "Seven years after Ganondorf took control of Hyrule, ReDeads roamed the ruins of castle town, moaning. Link was shocked at the state of the town, and the apparent lack of survivors. He later learned that the townsfolks had evacuated to safety, and the ReDeads were magic animated into hideous humanoid shapes."

King DeDeDe tends not to be on the bad side in any kirby game and yet he sends out his minions anyway. Either way the point is this: IT'S A CROSSOVER GAME! It's Stupid to only represent one franchise in the way of enemies. We could have seen Zelda enemies and it still would have made since to Roy's argument. We could have seen some Mother Enemies (after all we fought porkey did we not?) We could have seen wild pokemon we could have seen KI enemies, Space Pirates. None of these would not have made sense.

I think Savage Adam was referring to the ReDead in Twilight Princess, which didn't see to be affiliated with Ganondorf. They were just dungeon beasts.

In regards to the whole "SSE doesn't make sense" thing, you need to keep two points in mind when saying something like that:
1// Sakurai directed the game; most if not all titles he's involved with lack overly complex storylines, usually revolving around Kirby acting to end a smaller evil while Meta Knight and Dedede act to end greater evils. Clearly, plotmaking isn't his strong point.
2// The plot for SSE was pounded out by the same guy who does some Final Fantasy games, so of course there's going to be a lot of metaphor diarrhea. The only difference between SSE and a Final Fantasy plot is that there's no emo main character squaring off against an emo main villain. Oh, and all the SSE characters are actually tolerable in comparison.
I absolutely agree that some characters got a raw deal (Ice Climbers, Wolf, Toon Link, Jigglypuff), while others stole the show (Dedede, Ganondorf), but that's okay, I guess. I can deal with that. And Sonic is especially an understandable case because he was added in so late into production; Sakurai probably had all the prior cutscenes done before they could get their hands on him.

I'm perfectly happy with SSE. Sorry to ruin the Hate Parade with a ray of sunshine.
