It's about that time of year again. Welcome to the...
3rd Party Awards, 2008!
Things are a little different this year. I've added a bunch of new categories, and following Old Man Rupee's example in the AUN's, I've decided to spread voting out across a couple of weeks.
Other than that, the rules are pretty much the same:
(1) The "nominees" listed for each category are simply suggestions. Write-in votes are entirely welcome.
(2) Your vote must be related to a third-party game on a Nintendo platform released between now and May of last year.
(3) Simply post your votes in this thread, or send them in a PM if you want to cast a secret ballot.
Winners will be kept track of in this first post. The first batch of categories are below. I'm hoping for a good voter turn out, so don't be shy and get voting!
And the winners are...
Best New Character
Zack (Zack & Wiki: Quest For Barbaros' Treasure)
The little pirate scores big with his first outing. Let's hope he gets the chance at another.
Best Classic Character
Phoenix Wright (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney -- Trials and Tribulations)
The Ace Attorney continues to be popular around the NinDB forums.
The Nintyboyuno Memorial Award: Best First-party Crossover
Solid Snake (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)
It was a close race between the Snake and the Hedgehog, but Snake won out at the last minute. To be honest, I'm a little surprised Sonic didn't do better considering Brawl is the best game he's been in in years.
Best Use of the DS Interface
The World Ends With You (Square-Enix)
When a game could only really work on the DS, you know the developers were thinking outside the box.
Best Use of the Wii Remote/Nunchuck
Zack & Wiki: Quest For Barbaros' Treasure (Capcom)
Brilliant use of the Remote ensured another win for the pirate duo.
Most Anticipated WiiWare Game
TIE!
Lost Winds (Frontier Developments)
World of Goo (2D Boy)
The votes were spread pretty thin in this category, but these two managed to pull slightly ahead.
Most Anticipated DS Game
Miles Edgeworth: Ace Prosecutor (Capcom)
The Phoenix Wright spin-offs appear to be just as popular as the core series.
Most Anticipated Wii Game
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (Namco-Bandai)
The sequel to one of the GameCube's most popular RPG's just slightly edges out the competition.
Best DS Game
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (Capcom)
Another win for the Ace Attorney series! Case closed.
Best Wii Game
Zack & Wiki: Quest For Barbaros' Treasure (Capcom)
And Zack & Wiki take home a third award! These pirates be collecting tons o' loot!
Best Third-party Publisher
Capcom
For the second year in a row, Capcom takes home the prize of best third-party publisher. Fans have noticed that they tend to released a large quantity of high quality games for the Wii.
Best Third-party Developer
Capcom
And not only do they release a lot of quality software, they often develop it themselves!
Best New Character
Apollo Justice (Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney)
Neku Sakuraba (The Worlds Ends With You)
Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes)
Zack (Zack & Wiki)
Other:____________________
Lots of new third-party characters have been introduced this year. Who is your favorite?
Best Classic Character
Amaterasu (Okami)
Leon S. Kennedy (Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition)
Phoenix Wright (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Trials and Tribulations)
Probotector (Contra 4)
Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword)
Other:____________________
My lobbying for Contra 4 beings now! Probotector for best classic character!
The Nintyboyuno Memorial Award: Best First-party Crossover
Mario (Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games)
Solid Snake (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)
Sonic The Hedgehog (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)
Other:____________________
No one knows exactly what happened to nintyboyuno. The latest rumor is that he has teamed up with Corey Woods to start a chain of pizza restaurants in the arctic.
And that's all for the first batch. You have until Sunday, May 4th to cast your ballot! Happy voting!
