I really don't understand why NoA doesn't have a half-decent Mario suit that they can lend to their advertising agencies... why do they keep making weird-looking ones? You just reminded me of those old but awesome Crash Bandicoot commericals where the guy would dress in the Crash suit and try to do the things Crash does, but ultimately fail because the suit was so bulky. God, I miss the 90's.

Not 'till Christmas, though you'd think more people would be discussing it.

Yeah I got it
...3 years ago when it was called Animal Crossing Wild World.
I loved ACWW for a few months, then never touched it again. I'd be willing it give it another go if this version was significantly different, but no, Nintendo had to half arse this thing. No sale (well not a full price sale - maybe when it drops to half price I'll bite).

Well then I'd like to hear, what would you have done to the game to make you want to buy it?

Not make it look like arse. Use the Wii control functionality (fishing, digging, whatever). Scrap friend codes. More customisation. More fruits, more plants, etc. More everything. Less looking like arse (again)

Less looking like arse (again) You must be blind because it is graphically superior to the N64, GC, and DS versions. The reason you don't seem to be able to tell is because you aren't looking past the art style. Also while Friend Codes suck, it also keeps the DS and Wii from being weekly regulars on "To Catch A Predator" and from suffering due to GIFT. Yes, the Wii does have parental controls, but who actually messes with that? Friend Codes is a problem with the CONSOLE, not the game. Lastly there is more customization in terms of making your own clothes, as well as the fact it has Mii Integration and thus you can make your character look like you.

Shit graphics is not an art style. Its just shit graphics. You cannot, honestly, tell me that AC is designed to look like that for any reason but Nintendo being lazy fuckers.
I don't give a shit about GIFT and To Catch a Predator and blah de blah blah. I know its not just AC's problem, but at the very least these games should be using the console Wii code, and I'm not interested in buying their shit until they sort it out.

Yes, I can, because they didn't use the same models from the N64/GC release or the DS release, and if you played the N64, GC or DS release recently, you would know that. Now if you think that Animal Crossing has a crappy artstyle, then that's ok, but don't blame it on the graphics or on Nintendo being lazy.
As for Wii Numbers, there appears to be only one per console and that would hurt local multiplayer games... You know, the sort of games Nintendo has a distinct advantage in. Not only that, but Xbox Live will always have the advantage in terms of the online services of the consoles because it's been refined for 5 years longer.
This sorta thing has been happening since the bleeping SNES, where people complain that it's not the cool console and only for kids. I know, as I've been a vetern of console wars dating back to the SNES, and was a gamer since the NES. I even hated on biggest new game Pokemon some 10 or so years ago. It is not Nintendo that abandoned the core gamer, it's the core gamer who abandoned Nintendo. It's not Nintendo who abandoned the third-parties, it's the third-parties who abandoned Nintendo. Nintendo is just earning it back, much like Sony had to earn their third-party support with the PS1.

Nintendo has clearly done nothing more than marginally upgrade the graphics that have been in place since the 64 version. I mean, is Mario 64's graphics an artstyle? If it was, why were later Mario not exactly like it? Uh... no. What does that have to do with anything? Which also means Nintendo had 5 years to build upon, or, fuck, even steal, XBL's functions. Uh cool. This has nothing to do with anything either.

Graphics shouldn't be the biggest reason to dislike a game. Personally I think this was okay, while they could have done a little more, they still had plenty of new things in there to make many fans and newcomers happy. I like that they brought back the old holidays plus new ones, added new fish and bugs, new characters, new furniture, expanded on customization. and added Wii Speak. That's pretty good in my book.

If a game is brilliant and has shit graphics I will overlook them, but when its the same thing I've played before, at least given it a decent visual upgrade so it looks like I'm playing something different.

I entirely agree on this point. The gameplay is the same, and the graphics are much the same (running the original models through a "smooth" filter doesn't count as a visual upgrade - especially where you can still see the polygon edges!) And the reviews seem to be saying it too - it's the same, just on Wii rather than DS. As someone who was already peeved that the DS version didn't expand enough on the Gamecube game, I guess that rules me out entirely.

Not only that, but the new additions to the gameplay are hokey at best. The City is silly, holidays should not be a selling point, and the new items (while cool) do not warrant a new game. If anything, that's worthy of an EXPANSION. If they let people, y'know, upload the WW stuff to CF and go from there, I could see it. But since it's being touted as a whole new game...?

Well I think Animal Crossing is one of those games where the only thing that's going to be given in sequels are new additions rather than retooling it from ground up. Much like the Smash Bros. series where we look forward to new characters and stages rather than a whole new gaming experience.
Ask yourself, would it be an Animal Crossing game if the gameplay were any different?
