Simply put, my say on SSBB is: Good game, but not that perfect.
Characters Good choices overall, not too many problems here...and I'll just stop there on that one.
Stages The newer ones actually offer much more variety than the previous ones. Stage Builder is a bit too limited, though.
Items, Assist Trophies, etc. Not much to say on items, but it's a decent selection nonetheless. Could have had more Assist Trophies, but the ones here are good enough.
Subspace Emissary Could have used a little more to it, but it's not bad for a first try at whipping up a story with all of Nintendo's stars together. Who knows what they can do with them another time...
General Gameplay/Game Modes Feels fine to me. But I fail to see how it's overly different from Melee. Game modes are just right. The challenges really have me going on.
Trophies and Stickers No problems here, though the Final Smash trophies were a tad ridiculous (to me at least). They've done so much in terms of series representation anyway.
Eh, that's my two cents anyway. You can bring on your thoughts about each of the game's aspects.

I like Brawl more than Melee.

Recall my personal quote, "Melee is better than Brawl". It's not absolutely true, but there are indeed many aspects that Melee could do better. Also, when doing any Melee-Brawl comparison, keep in mind that Brawl is more like an independent installment than a Melee sequel.
I'll use BD's format.
Characters Good in overall, I can't be picky and include everyone (playable Goomba)! Although I do think adding some more characters would still be good. Also, I am still not positive about the 3rd party inclusion.
Stages New stages are a bit of lacking. More could have been used and the allocation could be better. Like previous games, Mario series is still more dominantthan anything else. And note how there are only 2 Kirby stages compared to 3 in Melee.
Items, Assist Trophies, etc. Give me back Red Shell! And I guess the Assist Trophies could be more varied. Personally i'd love to see a Goomba coming out, doing nothing but waiting to be stomped.
Subspace Emissary Good. Nothing to say here.
General Gameplay/Game Modes It's a bit varied from Melee. It gives a different feel. It's actually a bit difficult for a Melee user to get used to it. The game modes are pretty well done. The Masterpieces part could use an improvement though. The time limit could be removed by, say, buying the actual VC version. (The system could detect that, right?)
Trophies and Stickers It's simply too uneven. Some series got very few trophy representation. For stickers, I'm even more disappointed by not seeing representatives from some obscure games - or even, more popular ones. Stickers are simple enough that you could put in stuff from more reent games like Galaxy or Prime 3.
While you see my negative views of the game, there are actually something good about it - it's just I want to concentrate on how it went worse on some areas.

CHARACTERS Over all, a fairly good selection. Could do without Falco, Lucas, and Toon Link, for obvious reasons. I don't think Meta Knight or Olimar is very good either, but at least they're original. I really wanted to see Dixie Kong, K. Rool, and Animal Crosser though.
STAGES I like a lot of the stages. Mario Bros. just intrigues me and I love it. They're mostly great. But then we got New Pork City, which is too big for its own good. when stretched out all the way you can barely see the characters.
STAGE BUILDER This was a disappointment. I go to Stage Builder, excited to make my own stages, and there's barely anything. So I build 15 or so stages, play on one 10 times, unlock all the parts, and barely anything is added. It was a disappointment. I hope if they make SSB4, they bulk up Stage Builder.
ITEMS Red shells need to return. Also I feel FLUDD should have been an item rather than a part of Mario's moveset. I also think Animal Barrels (DKC trilogy) should have been items. Not to mention other things too. But the items overall are good.
ASSIST TROPHIES / POKE BALLS Could have been more, but what's there is good. Some nice representation, at least. The Poké Ball selection is a bit weak, though.
SUBSPACE EMISSARY Really short, but it wasn't bad. Better than Adventure Mode in Melee.
GAME MODES/GAME PLAY Easier than Melee for the most part, but it's still great. I love it.
TROPHIES Some weak representation, but better than Melee.
STICKERS Really, who's going to actually use them?

Fine I'll do it in BD's format.
Characters: Good overall. I can see every character in Brawl deserving their spot.
Stages: Pretty good choices for stages, and pretty varied. Some stages are truely horrendous though. New Pork and Spear Pillar should never appear again.
Items: Great choices overall. Love the Smash Ball and Assist Trophies.
Subspace Emissary: Good for a 2D Beat 'Em Up. We will leave it at that.
Game Modes and Gameplay: They really need to make online at least similar to Mario Kart Wii.
Trophies and Stickers: Meh
Still better than Melee though.

Oh yeah I forgot about Spear Pillar. I don't like it either. At least when Palkia makes the controls backwards.

Ah man, I love Spear Pillar. Yeah, it blows when fighting the computer, but when you're with friends it results in hilarity.

Characters Very well done. I wanted a few others but I got most of who I wanted (Olimar, Meta Knight, Dedede, R.O.B., Toon Link, Pit, Wario, DIDDY)
Stages Fresh, moreso areas than floating stages, variety despite unbalance, and etc.
Items, Assist Trophies, etc. Dissapointed with Goroh, Lyn, and Isaac, that's really it. Otherwise perfect selection.
Subspace Emissary I loved it. It made me almost cry at one or two parts, and in amazement at my favorite characters (and everyone else, really) being done perfectly with all the personalities intact and shown clearly.
General Gameplay/Game Modes Perfect, it'll last for years.
Trophies and Stickers Not balanced in trophies, despite how many I loved. More classics were needed, more Yoshi and Wario and Ice Climber and Kid Icarus. Stickers were perfect despite no Nester.
If I ever went back to Melee it'd be for: -The removed characters.... ONLY because I like the ones removed for their games, not specifically their rep in Melee. Been replaying OOT and will play Majora's Mask soon (YL), playing a lot of Dr. Mario Online RX (Doc), might try FE6 since it's basically FE7's story's sequel (Roy), and I like memories of Gold/Silver (Pichu)... Not to mention Mewtwo's just a badass. -The trophies... combine them and Brawl's selection to get Nintendo's history flat-out-there. -The stages... I love the stages for every game, but with Melee I could play all-star fights for Majora's Mask, Kirby's Adventure, and good representations for Mother 2 and F-Zero X and Super Metroid that I'd like to revisit.

Wasn't Nester supposed to be some kind of Nintendo fanboy, almost like 9-Volt?

I don't have brawl but I have played it many times and i think it is better than ssbm because single player is better, there are more players and there is brawl stages, melee, and custom made stages you can play on more stuff in there makes it fun!
