Capcom's only major Wii announcement at Captivate 08 was Spyborgs, which actually sounds like it might be fun. It's the first game developed by Bionic Games, which is made up of former members of Insomniac Games and High Impact. There seems to be an emphasis on team gameplay, particularly with 2-player co-op. I'm a little disappointed Capcom didn't announce something with the words "Resident Evil" in the title consider how much success they've had with the franchise on the Wii, but it's only been less than seven months since Umbrella Chronicles came out, so it doesn't mean there won't be something down the road. EDIT: This is interesting. GoNintendo reports that Capcom's Christian Svensson posted on the official Capcom message board about Spyborgs, apparently in response to a backlash. It was in defense of claims that the game was simply more "kiddie shovelware." Here are some of the things he said: Dark Void and Spyborgs are the two biggest titles our office is working on. To say that either of them isn't an incredibly high priority for the company, with major resources against them would be a pretty big misunderstanding of the reality.
The team working on Spyborgs is an all-star team of some of the best character action game developers in the world, backed by us. Have faith.
. . .
The initial reaction here I swear is the EXACT reaction so many of you posters had when we first revealed Zack & Wiki. Somehow, Z&W is now a posterchild title for the Wii in your eyes. Mark my words... you will feel exactly the same way about the level of quality in Spyborgs when it is done. He also talks a bit about the origins of the game, saying that it was the brainchild of Bionic Games before Capcom even decided to back it. He makes some good points. Would Ratchet & Clank be considered too "kiddie" if it debuted on the Wii?

The game does sound interesting with the 2 player co-op and the Saturday morning cartoon aspect. But 2 player co-op should not be the main selling point of the game as some other games also have 2 player co-op. The commericial break mini games sound a little weird and childish (one contains toliet humor) but hopefully there purpose will be revealed later.
Also IGN has the reason why Bionic games used Capcom as their publisher.
"Bionic Games said it chose Capcom as its publisher because it knows how to extend its properties beyond games into other realms of entertainment like TV, movies, and comic books. That's exactly what the creators of Spyborgs aim to do with their property. It's already designed like a cartoon, and Bionic says it is currently in talks with several companies to branch out."

Look, the Nintendo guys are a bit sensitive since Ubisoft betrayed us. People wonder why third-party games don't sell, and that's because Nintendo fans wants good games that are decently advertised, much like what Sony and Microsoft fans want. Ubisoft's Party Babyz has no potential to be a good game, while with Spyborgs, you get the feeling that they at least want to try to make a good game.

IGN has posted a video interview with producer Mike Stout, and it reveals some interesting things about the actual gameplay. For instance, there will always be two playable characters on screen, even in single-player mode, with the second character being controlled by the AI. You'll be able to switch between them at will. Movement will be controlled by the analog stick, with motion controls being tailored to the individual characters. I actually really like the idea of this game. Maybe it's because I have fond memories of watching Saturday morning cartoons. (Ah, last Saturday seems like only yesterday. )

Well, I assume those are from the previously shown version of the game. Capcom has since stated that Spyborgs received a massive overhaul, so maybe someone just leaked footage that was no longer relevant.
I've also heard some random speculation that this is a sign the game has been canceled, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

The "massive overhaul" of this game reminds me of another game that when it first appeared was just another happy go lucky platformer and from those complants then received a massive overhaul . . . That game was Conker 12 Tales on the N64 (made by Rare) and ended up turning into Conker's Bad Fur Day, a game that still to this day has no other game like it (excludes the Xbox remake). So who know's maybe the same could happen to Spyborgs, turn from a "kiddie" title (not my words just people complaning about it) into something M rated. Capcom could do with an original M rated game on the Wii.

Here's a Capcom blog post about the videos that appeared on YouTube a couple weeks back. It also mentions the "new" Spyborgs. Yes, those videos many of you saw last week were an early look at Spyborgs ... a waaaay early look from about a year ago, well before the recent upgrades we've made to the game, the engine, the art style. Those videos weren't even gameplay footage anyway. They were all animatics - early blocked out cinematics for figuring out timing, camera angles, animations for various cuts, etc. Those are all meant to be rough and easy to iterate before things are locked down and the polished models, textures, effects, etc. are put into place.
The new Spyborgs is looking really good. When people's first reactions are surprise that those graphics are on the Wii, you know you're on to something. We're excited to reveal it to you all soon. I'm working with Marketing to get permission to post a teaser of some kind: a screenshot, a piece of a screenshot, some character art... anything! I haven't yet found the right thing to bribe them with. Any suggestions? ( Source)

Finally, Capcom has revealed the retooled Spyborgs. Here is the trailer, some gameplay footage, and screenshots. I liked it before, and I still like it now. It does seem to look a bit sleeker, now, tho. The general impression from the media seems to be that it's less "Saturday morning cartoon," and more "Ratchet & Clank," whatever that means.

Here are impressions from 1up. They make it sound basically like a beat-em-up version of Ratchet: Deadlocked. (And again, Bionic Games is made up of former Insomniac members who actually worked on Ratchet & Clank and Resistance: Fall of Man.) In a way, perhaps it's the "Guardian Heroes" to Ratchet's "Gunstar." Another bit that caught my attention: Even if you play solo, Spyborgs' feels like a co-op game. You'll have an A.I.-controlled companion, but you can also switch between characters at any time (also, at certain checkpoints within a given level in two-player mode, both players have the option to swap characters). I think this game might be going back on my radar.

4-hit combo!
Here's about a minute of gameplay footage from E3. It's a giant boss fight that looks pretty cool!

5-hit Awesome Mega Monster Crazy Combo!!!!! Wooooo! Here's a developer walkthru: part 1, part 2. He refers to the game as a classic 80's style brawler like Streets of Rage and Final Fight, but he also says they like to call it "Ratchet and Clank meets Devil May Cry". (It bothers me when companies use a bunch of different games as a reference for what their one game is like.) As stated before, it's always a two-player game, with the second character being controlled by the AI in single-player mode. But it's also possible for a second human player to join in at any time. The game also contains Xbox Live-style achievements that unlock extra content. Is it just me, or does this game have a slight resemblance to Captain Commando? The robot, Bouncer, reminds me of that baby-in-a-robot-suit character. And Stinger seems to have a similar hair style to Captain Commando, and is even wearing shades. Anyway, this game is officially on my radar.

6-HIT ULTRA COMBO!!!!!! FLAWLESS VICTORY!(Guess I'm the only one that cares about this game.)Here is about 14 minutes of E3 coverage on Spyborgs from Gamespot (via Capcom-unity). Wow, so it'll have 35 stages? I wonder how long those stages are. They also mention that the game is due out in early fall, but if they decide to implement Motion Plus, it could get pushed back as far as December.

7-HIT ULTIMATE COMBO!!!!!!! 77,948 BILLION DAMAGE...Maybe I should stop posting news about this game if nobody cares except me. Anyway, new screens for Spyborgs, including some character renders. Also, a few days ago, there were rumors that the developer, Bionic Games, was shutting down after facing layoffs. But the president of the company, Michael Haller, said that wasn't the case, and that layoffs were normal after finishing primary development on a game. He also said that, "for all intents and purposes," the game is finished, and all that's left is fixing bugs. Well, if the game is essentially finished, I wonder if that means they won't be adding Motion Plus, as they were considering at E3.

I'll chip in! Or should I? I'm scared of the high damage your posts have built up. Anywho, for some reason this never really latched onto me. I'll have to look more into it when I get time.
