Here's a video of Plug Man and Concrete Man's stage from E3 with some guy giving general info in the background. Screen seems to freeze a split-second whenever you die, like in Megaman 1. Also Concrete Man's stage music is awesome.

That boxart is soooo fake I dunno... they might have taken a leaf out of Contra 4's book and are harking back to the days of poorly written manuals and dodgy American box art. For a joke. After all... the 8-bit graphics are sort of a joke in themselves as well. Although what the point is when it's not going to have a box is anyone's guess. Still, makes for a nice bit of official art

Actually, it was for a t-shirt. Apparently, it was awarded to people at E3 who were able to finish both available stages in the Mega Man 9 demo. ( source)

I mean, "haha, funny funny... people actually were that lazy back in the day. How silly were we to take it all so seriously. We sure were dumb kids." And then it's over. I'm not saying Mega Man should go the route that things like Batman and Transformers are taking, but I think the nostalgia should end at the 8-bit graphics. Everything else is overkill to the nth degree. Seriously.

If you're going to do a game in 8-bit graphics, you might as well go the whole hog and make it all nostalgic. 8-bit graphics are in no way a better idea than a bad box art, both have no benefits other than nostalgia.

I guess the t-shirts weren't actually a prize after all since there were only four of them made. But according to Capcom, they're making more and they'll be available for purchase! It was quickly decided by the marketing group that if we were going to release a game that looked like it came from 1987 that we should run the whole marketing campaign as if we were working in the games industry in 1987. From there, it was a very easy leap to putting in a call to I Am 8-bit artist Gerald de Jesus, who we comissioned to create the beautiful/horrible homage to past packaging Mega Man mindcrimes that you see above.
The image above is a photo of the super-limited edition t-shirts (1 of 4!) that we had created for Inafune-san and Takeshita-san to wear during E3. You should have seen people's eyes light up when they saw this image emblazoned across Inafune-san's chest; it's not often you see a global head of R&D sporting something so hideous on his torso. In fact, I wore one of the MM9 shirts to the unbelievable Rock Band party during E3 and I thought I was going to get ganked by a pack of slavering industry fanboys. Capcom's marketing team in the US is super-stoked that everyone is getting what we're doing with the box art (including the Japanese dev team) and I promise you that we'll have some t-shirts of this beauty available for purchase soon!

According to a recent interview with Hironobu Takesh ita, Mega Man 9 is so large that it wouldn't fit onto a classic NES cartridge. Perhaps that means big stages and lots of unlockables. Most interesting, however, is that the game will include an option to turn on NES glitches, like sprite flicker and slowdown. Talk about authentic. At least it's a choice.

Haha, that's fantastic! I am impressed with the level of unusual authenticity going into this game. Optional hardware limitations FTW!
