Thing still isn't a game though. From the back of the jpn box (tl); "...a thing that can't be called neither a game nor a musical instrument" - Miyamoto Shigeru I played a bit, it's been fun so far.

So besides the few people who admit on getting it, who else is going to get it? =p
I'm getting it just for my collection, and play the Mario and Zelda theme. Pretty much the same reason I got Donkey Konga.
As for the discussion about weather it's a game or not, can we call it a toy...despite the fact games ARE toys.

The same type of thing happened in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He was playing with action figures and carlton called them dolls.
And games aren't toys anymore. They are a form of art and entertainment and can compete on the same level with movies, plays and even books.

...despite the fact games ARE toys. "They're NOT DOLLS! They're ACTION FIGURES!" --Francis, Super Paper Mario I stand corrected. =D Well I do believe games have evolved to the point or even beyond the medium of movies, plays, and books. =D But does this make Wii Music a toy since according to the quote it can't be called a game or a musical instrument. Either-way, I'm having fun playing the Mario theme. =D

Your having fun just shaking your wiimote? Dude - have you played Wii Music? You have made this giant assumption without giving it a go (which is OK I guess - we all do that)... But now you're having a go at people who HAVE played the game based entirely on your assumption. That's is fucking retarded. Please don't post in this topic again until you've played the game.

I smell core in this thread.
I will say this: the game is pretty freaking fun. Again, it's not meant to be played like Rock Band so you will get board easily if you just try to hit a bunch of note. It's really about mixing it up and making a whole bunch of songs.
That being said, if you have no interest in making music, then don't bother with it.

But you can't MAKE music, can you? Could I get Wii Music to play the theme to Jurassic Park?
It'd be a lot more fun if they allowed you to compose and/or arrange music with all the instruments they have, instead of just conducting or playing an instrument in a pre-existing song.

The problem is the software has to sacrifice something in order to stay simple. You could do software hacks pretty easily and put what ever you want, but I doubt Wii Music will have a big mod community.

This is interesting, after in a Wii Music interview with Miyamoto, when asked about IGN low review score, Miyamoto immediately assumed it was Matt Casamassina who reviewed the game and that he is a core gamer who didn't like the game. Now that's just amazing Source. From MTV Multiplayer From Miyamoto

I think it's interesting that Miyamoto mentions the "Mario Teams" and the "Zelda Teams" like that's what we really want, but it's not. Us gamers want Miyamoto to make new games that are as awesome as Mario and Zelda, and not as not awesome as Wii Music or Wii Fit.
We need more games like Pikmin, Metroid, Kid Icarus, F-Zero, Earthbound, and I could freaking go on.
We already have 1 Mario platformer on the Wii. We have 1 epic Zelda for the Wii. We have millions of crappy games with "Wii" in the title, but we are still missing hundreds of other Nintendo series that would work perfectly on the Wii. Miyamoto gets all pissy because he thinks we just want another Mario or Zelda, and it pisses me off that he doesn't listen to know that we just want our Miyamoto back. Not the casual-gamers-who-couldn't-give-a-crap's Miyamoto.

Makes me worry when he talks about developers bringing their new "experiences" to our beloved franchises... I mean what kind of an experience do you get when developing Wii Music? And bringing that attitude to Mario?
The problem is that Miyamoto thinks that gamers don't know what they want... But in fact we do.

......True, I would like to see a new DKC Platformer for either Wii or DS unlike that of the King Of Swing + Jungle Climber.
