Alright so, we all know Roy is not in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. But, I did hear that he was going to be in brawl but he got cut for some reason. Is this true? And if so, why was he cut?  |

Why do you give that vulgar answers? From the beginning I've joined this forum, I've seen the majority of the users as intelligent and nice Nintendo fans. No doubt that you are, but are those answers really needed? I hope you don't take my comment personally.

The history goes that Sakurai had the roster planned in 2005 when he was first put on as director. But as the game came along in development, he realized he had to cut a few of his ideas. By the time 2006/7 rolled around, he was left with the current roster minus Wolf and Sonic: the game included Roy and Mewtwo in their places. When Sega cleared the inclusion of Sonic, he immediately bumped one of those two for the blue 'hog and, furthermore, decided Wolf was a better inclusion. The only real evidence we have for this are the fact that he himself said Sonic was a last minute addition (while everybody else was decided in 2005) [and this is evident in Subspace Emissary], the fact that Roy and Mewtwo are included in the "Victory Theme" tracks with all the other characters minus Sonic and Wolf, and the rest of the cut characters we've seen on the disc (Dr. Mario, Plusle/Minun, Dixie Kong, and Toon Zelda/Sheik). While I'm on the matter, Toon Link and JPuff WERE known from the beginning so the fact that those two and Wolf are barely in SSE indicates nothing. Also, Sakurai has come clean and admitted that the original Brawl cast did include a handful more "clones" and, believe it or not, a Diddy/Dixie duo. This is why Diddy Kong's Down B attack is so random--it was originally a "tag" between himself and Dixie. My guess is that he realized that with Diddy/Dixie, Plusle/Minun (Pichu clones), AND the Ice Climbers he basically removed that uniqueness of a character duo. Finally, despite popular belief, characters like Geno, Ridley, and K. Rool WERE popular suggestions on the character polls, but they were never considered by Sakurai as part of his "master roster." The polls were opened well after he had already decided who was in and out of the game.

Yeah, orginally, there was everyone in Brawl besides Wolf & Sonic, along with a Diddy Kong & Dixie Kong duo, a Plusle & Minun duo, Toon Zelda/Toon Sheik, and returning characters Dr. Mario, Roy, and Mewtwo. Plusle & Minun, Dr. Mario, and Toon Zelda/Toon Sheik were more likely the ones dropped first as Plusle & Minun haven't been separated, Dr. Mario was probably too much of a clone, and Toon Zelda/Toon Sheik was not only too much of a clone, but people would rather play as Tetra than Toon Sheik. Sakurai probably dropped Dixie Kong because Pokemon Trainer served pretty much the same character idea soon but after he put Diddy Kong in, and he basically just came up with a Down Special for Diddy on the spot. This left Roy and Mewtwo... Roy was likely replaced with Sonic when Sega gave their approval, and Mewtwo was replaced by Wolf probably on a realization that Pokemon already had like 6 playable characters and Mewtwo was more expendable than Pikachu, Pokemon Trainer, Jigglypuff, and Lucario.

Oh crap, our first Shadow fanboy... Also I have never figured this out ridicules idea that somehow Shadow deserves hate or something. I mean he's not any less unoriginal than almost ever freaking other doppleganger character throughout history. |
