Grab a Wii Remote™ controller in one hand and a Nunchuk™ controller in the other and step back into the ring with a modern update of the classic Punch-Out!! * Little Mac is back! Everyone’s favorite underdog from the 1980s joins the best of the original Punch-Out!! cast in a modern re-imagination of the series. Players will find familiar names like Glass Joe, King Hippo and trainer Doc Louis. These boxers come to life again in cel-shaded 3-D, complete with hilarious fighting animations and back stories that capture all the fun and flair of the original Punch-Out!! games. * The motion-sensitive controls of the Wii console mean that when players throw punches, Little Mac throws punches as well. Additionally, you can control hooks and jabs by combining motion control with control-stick movement. The motion-sensing Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers turn real-life swings into on-screen punches, so anyone can play. The game can also be played with classic NES-style controls by turning the Wii Remote sideways. Characters: Little Mac, Glass Joe, King Hippo, Doc Louis, Von Kaiser and other unannounced favorites. Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Players can obtain special “Star Punches,” which allow Little Mac to take more Health from his rival in a single punch. Control options: * Motion Control (Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers) Punch-Out!! uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to simulate throwing punches. Use the Nunchuk to throw a left punch and the Wii Remote to throw a right punch. * Classic Control (Wii Remote NES™ style) Fans of the NES version and core gamers will be excited to see Nintendo has also included the option to play Punch-Out!! using the classic layout from the original NES controller. Use the 1 and 2 buttons along with the cross pad to throw hooks and jabs or to dodge. Source.

Is it for 2 players or is it still for 1 player? It would be nice to have a 2-player mode where you can select any boxer in addition to Little Mac.

I would still like to see any sort of confirmation that this isn't just the NES game prettied up and with motion controls that may or may not actually work. I'm not confident that I ever will, though.

I love how people are complaining about how it's a remake. How about be damned grateful the series ain't dead? Even if you wanted a new game, the controls and style will be fine after a decade, right?
If it's a remake, it's a very pretty one beyond fancier sprites. Come on, look at the alternative of begging for the game's return a few more years.
This looks amazing, I seriously can't wait. Love the art, too.

Uh, this game isn't a cherished family member or something. I could not give a shit if it is or isn't dead. And if this is indeed a remake, I refuse to 'be grateful' for Nintendo slapping something together in five minutes and rolling around on the piles of money this game will generate. The fact is, at this point, this game seems like it has potential to be exactly the same I played all those years ago, and exactly the game I already bought on Wii for like $7.

Yeah, I'll just wait for a review to pop up first. If it's just classic Punch Out gone 3D it better not cost more then 20 bucks like Serious Sam.

ON TOPIC: Well, it looks like the Punch-Out!! Wii game will most likely be a remake of the NES Punch-Out!! series, making the boxers that exclusively appear in the original Punch-Out!! arcade and the SNES Super Punch-Out!! not allowed; however, if the Punch-Out!! Wii sells well, and if gamers want a sequel to it, then I hope it's the remake of the SNES Super Punch-Out!!, but if it isn't and there will be no remake of it, then I hope they would release it for the Virtual Console, cause its been sitting in the dark since the release of the GCN version of Fight Night Round 2. Thinking about these retro-remakes makes me think of other retro-remakes under development, like Splatterhouse (formally developed by Bottlerocket Entertainment, now Namco Bandai Games is finishing it up) and Alex Kidd (Aceland Studios is working on it, is it a rumor or is it real?). OFF TOPIC: Man-Frog is 100% right on TMNT, Parrot. Eastman and Lairx created it as a parody of Frank Miller's Daredevil. The Turtles were DD, the Hand was the ninja cult the Hand and Splinter was DD's sensei Stick. Furthermore, Shredder was Gladiator, a forgotten DD villain. And you dead wrong about comics being uppopular. At one point, Uncanny X-Men (Chris Claremont, John Byrne) and New Teen Titans (Marv Wolfman, George Perez) were moving hundred of thousands of units, which was astounding for then. This was before the rise of specialty shops and direct market so you could pick up the latest issue of the Titans epic at the local news stand or market. And yes, kids were a big part of the market. So not very original and not child-friendly are the two reasons why the TMNT comics never caught much attention back in 1984? My interest in their dark-style started way back when the first TMNT NES game was released. The game's front cover used one of Volume 1 Issue #4's covers. Shredder was violently killed in issue one when the turtles dropped a dump truck on him. For the end of Oroku Saki in "Volume 1 Issue #1, are you serious? I thought he feel off a building with a grenade.

The independt market was never kid friendly. It was made for comics that would not get published at the Big Two and the lesser companies. Nevertheless, TMNT was quite popular, and lead to a rise in the black and white comic market. It was one of the first independent works, along with Art Spieglman's Maus, to garner mainstream attention. The derivitive nature had nothing to do with this- I doubt most people picked up on it.
And yeah, I got Shredder's death wrong. Dunno what I was thinking.

Alex Kidd, eh? Sounds like it's being made to appeal to the shellcore gamer!</nerd joke> Nintendo is aware that they need to hook the people who loved the franchise 22/15 years ago if there's any chance of this selling. They were always going to bring the franchise back using established characters, or else how would you distinguish it from any other boxing game? Especially from the Punch-Out!! clones that have appeared over the years. The only reason for reviving a franchise is to secure the original fanbase. If you're doing that (especially for a franchise this old) then it's a bad idea to start throwing out risky changes to gameplay or abandoning the characters the fans remember. A good strategy is to make a big splash about it being the game you remember, with the characters you love, only bigger and better... and then sneaking in new things, such as a new control scheme, new characters and so on. They won't necessarily feature in the pre-release hype, but that doesn't mean they won't appear at all. Once the series has been "rebooted" then you can start putting out new editions that take more risks. Besides, surely every edition of the game has simply been a tweaked version of the earlier games? Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! mostly featured characters from the arcade editions, and even Super Punch-Out!! stole from its three predecessors with reckless abandon! Can't really blame it for that. Personally, I'm hoping they sneak in a Teleroboxer or Arm Wrestling cameo as well

Uh, this game isn't a cherished family member or something. I could not give a shit if it is or isn't dead. There's plenty of gamers who'd like to give you a star uppercut right now. Punch-Out is a beloved classic and a damn good one too. Just because you don't appreciate it, doesn't mean there are plenty of people happy to see Mac back in the ring. I refuse to 'be grateful' for Nintendo slapping something together in five minutes and rolling around on the piles of money this game will generate. Five minutes? Your acting like they're porting the NES game with better graphics. No, this was a new game made from the ground up. It just cleverly simulates everything from the NES game. This is a retelling of a classic.

I'm just thankful Wii Music sold bad enough that Nintendo actually seemed to notice.

I might pick this up... I never owned the original NES (only played it at my cousin's when we were kids) but I would have liked to have the option of playing as different boxers besides Little Mac on two-player mode. I don't care if you only play as Little Mac on one-player mode, I just want a two-player mode with the option of selecting any boxer. On that thought, I'd love a revival of Pro Wrestling on the Wii! Just call it Nintendo Pro Wrestling (seeing how generic the name "Pro Wrestling" sounds).

Punch-Out actually looks good though. And people like me HAVE wanted a new game very badly. I wanted to see Little Mac in 3D... and since Brawl had that done I wanna see the rest of the cast. The NES game is my favorite, and I'm honestly shocked people are WHINING about a NEW GAME in the series. Super Punch-Out!! wasn't as popular, so honestly you'll have to hope this one does well.
Why are we judging when we haven't seen enough info, again?

I loved Punch-Out, I'm just hoping Nintendo doesn't make this Wii Boxing with Punch-Out characters...
