This has gotta be the greatest preview/talk about Punch Out yet.
"Nintendo producer Kensuke Tanabe reveals that motion controls were the reason Punch-Out!! came back, joking that it's been so long since the last Punch-Out!! "because we couldn't come up with a good idea for a new Punch-Out!! game for 15 years. I'm joking, but the reason behind the project coming out right now is because we have the new motion controls, and we wanted to implement that in the game." "There are hidden elements in the Punch-Out!! universe. The original game is about finding the tells, finding the weaknesses, solving the hidden puzzles," says Halliday. "So there are a few elements to the controls that aren't quite visible but users will discover over time while they master the game." One of these may or may not be related to the Wii's new enhanced motion sensor, MotionPlus - Tanabe says we'll have to wait for the final release to find out." "We're not allowed to discuss it at this time, but there are more hidden things, more exploratory things in the game to keep you coming back to perfect those boxers, and put your scores up on YouTube and compare yourself with anyone in the world... We barely fit this game onto a DVD, the amount of content that we've jammed into this is pretty impressive compared to our previous games. A simple yet deep experience I think is totally valid in this market." "I think the most important thing is the David and Goliath, underdog sort of story," says audio director Chad York. "I think all of the characters represent different types of bullies, and everyone relates to a different boxer, so we tried to capture the essence of all the different scenarios we could think of that classic underdogs have gone through." EDIT: THIS IS OFFICAILLY THE COOLEST THING YOU WILL EVER HEAR. Remember in the original Punch Out, Doc Louis says "join the Nintendo Fun Club today!"Well according to IGN's preview he will say something along the lines of "join the Nintendo Fun Club and then correct himself and say join Club Nintendo today."

"...Coming back to perfect those boxers..."? Granted that I haven't been keeping track of this game, I want to ask if it's already been stated that this means what I think it means (playing as other boxers). So, has it already? If not, then I say cha-friggin'-ching.

I think they mean trying again and again to make a perfect run in record time that people will upload onto Youtube. So far no info on playing as the other boxers.
They say the content barely fits on a DVD, I hope that means a shitload of different boxers to KO. And that Nintendo Fun Club reference is just plain awesome.

Was actually wondering about the Nintendo Fun Club thing, was guessing it'd be Nintendo Power. This made my day.
And Punch-Out!! is a game that just makes me think of New York City. Maybe it's the humor and music, or maybe it has to do with me playing it for the first time there and connecting it. Like Marvel Comics does, and that's why I always bring a Spidey or Fantastic Four with me to the Big Apple. But uh, I really hope they keep the feel of that. The city run looks to be doing that, but the intro with the cheering might do it for me.
Also I hope they do a reference to the Nintendo Hotline password.

Taking into account the ESRB rating bering E10 (with Cartoon Violence, Comic Mischief), and being no mention of "alcoholic referneces" I would say its not in the game. Considering the ESRB rating summary mentions "a boxer belching during a cutscene", I would assume its Soda Popinski returning. Also Disco Kid is apprantly the only newcomer to Punch Out, the other 12 boxers are ones returning from the rest of the Punch Out series according to Nintendo's lastest press release. "Characters: Little Mac, Glass Joe, King Hippo, Doc Louis, Von Kaiser and newcomer Disco Kid. There are a total of 13 opponents for Little Mac to step into the ring with, 12 of which are returning from previous games in the Punch-Out!! series." Next Level Games have said there is supposed to be a lot of unlockable content in the game, so maybe this isn't the final full number?

I hope not. I love the classic boxers as much as anybody, but...only one new one? As for the "game*S*": I hope Narcis Prince returns.

All the original NES boxers are included? Boy, I can't wait to see how Super Macho Man, Mr. Sandman, and Bald Bull turn out!

Just as a quick aside: anyone else really like the redesign of Little Mac? He seems a lot more like the underdog kid with a dream instead of short Sylvester Stallone, in my humble opinion.

He looks like both. I want Mac to jump a park bench in the bike scene this time around.

Rootin' on Bear Hugger, that's all I can say on this information that it's going to have characters from games other than Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! / Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream.

Note how they mention Doc Louis amongst opponents. I know he was a boxer in the original, but he was retired there. Could you fight him in this one?
