I despise the lack of an option to just play against my friends, or indeed play in anything that resembles the fun battle modes of the previous games. Why any of this was left out just boggles my mind.
And my biggest gripe is still the AI, which takes everything that was bad about Double Dash and (to some extent) Mario Kart DS, and turns it all the way up to 10.
The characters and tracks are imaginative as always, but I don't enjoy racing on them in anything other than Time Trial. And when Time Trial is more enjoyable than Grand Prix or VS Race/Battle (online or offline), then something has gone wrong.
Double Dash also had some great tracks, and once I got used to the character switching system I actually enjoyed it. I don't necessarily MISS it, but it didn't harm the game nearly as much as item rape and overly-punishing AI have done. Why couldn't they just do what they did in MKDS? That was good!!

Hmm. (I took in what Fry said, but that doesn't mean I have to reply. Reply only when there's something to say, said Fry. There's still no Auto Mode though, and I'd say it should have this functionality to save me one click. But then... it's not really a fault or something. It's just I don't like its UI design.)
On the topic of Mario Kart Wii (which itself is off-topic), I'd say it's alright. Mario Kart DS deemed too easy for me. Double Dash!! was too hard (I hate its Time Trial, it takes forever to get a staff ghost), and I'd say Wii is at a good level that won't let you get the 1st leaving others at least 10 seconds behind everytime.
Perhaps it's a matter of luck, I don't experience much item-bombing. Blue Shells usually happen when I'm at the second place =D And the online mode was good too, it keeps me at some 6th or 7th with occassional 1st's. The only thing I'll complain would be it would be better if it doesn't use VR/BR - like Brawl keeping no such records.

I haven't been playing anything on the Wii, lately. Also, I still don't have Mario Kart Wii, and I'm not going to get it as soon as possible, because of how poor the Wi-Fi connection is.
I like the Nintendo DS better, because it has better Wi-Fi connection, as well as a better selection of great games.

I mean at all. I can't just have a 1 on 1 race against a friend, but I have to have a 2 human vs. 10 computer characters... in racing or battle mode. And it's GAY!

And it's GAY! ...But you CAN play without the CPU in offline VS Race/Battle Mode. When you get to the screen where you can choose between VS and Team Racing (or Balloon/Coin mode for Battle Mode) a small button appears at the top-right of the screen. There you can turn computer controlled racers off. Yeah, they really should've placed that button somewhere more obvious. But Balloon Battle is always team battle with points, with or without computer players and that kinda sucks.

Are you serious? Well this is going to make Mario Kart Wii a whole lot better for me and my friends.

You can turn the CPU off and you can turn items off or put items on "Strategic" so that you won't get nearly as many cheap items ruining the race aspect. The single player on Mario Kart Wii is frustrating and the battle mode isn't very good, but multi-player races are better on Mario Kart Wii than any previous installment in my opinion.

Mario Kart's Wi-Fi was good, regardless of where people are, yet Brawl couldn't pull that off. What was the deal behind these?
I never did play Brawl online anyway.

I got too angry with the game to bother looking for small icons hidden away in the corner

Even you have illusion! =D ------------------ Seriously, MKWii is one of my fav online games. It doesn't lag like MKDS and Brawl does - and is as responsive as any other mode. (Althought Tetris DS performs better in terms of smoothness.) Must be my T1 conection.

Mario Kart does perform very well. But Battalion Wars is by far the best Wi-Fi game. I have never experienced lag or connection issues in a game. It is a real pinnacle of Wi-Fi,
