I have to admit that I was never interested in this game when it was first announced to be coming for the Wii (after it was cancelled for the PS3) because I never knew what it was about (even though it's called Monster Hunter). Then I saw this trailer and it . . . Looks outstanding . . . Why the heck haven't we talked about this game yet? It like someone combined Zelda like combat*/world and a crazy Pokemon game where your trying to kill them instead of capture them . . . And then it gave it co-op** . . . Online and offline and also the ability to record footage of you defeating monsters. So is anyone here interested in this game now? * Okay, I know Zelda wasn't the first game to have combat like that but I just wanted use a game example that I'm played and from what I heard there's a item mixing feature in MH allowing you to combine items. ** Exact multiplayer details. - Offline Co-Op Multiplayer (2 players) - Online Co-Op Multiplayer (4 players) - Online Multiplayer Wikipedia article on game.

I didn't think it was being released outside of Japan, and last I heard, chances of a North American release were slim, so I don't really have a reason to get excited about it.
It does have nice graphics, tho.

Capcom has released a few of these in the US, but they haven't caught on like they have in Japan. Wouldn't mind seeing the Wii version make it out here...especially since it offers up co-op offline.

Well this is a pretty good thing to hear from Capcom about MH3.
“As for Monster Hunter Tri…We’ve got some amazing stuff in it. The graphics for the Wii are like nothing you’ve seen on the system before. It’s a really pretty game. In addition, we now have underwater combat which is brand new to the series. So there are lots of sea monsters and things like that you can go after. Fans of Monster Hunter are going to be really impressed with what we accomplished with Monster Hunter Tri.”

That's good to hear. Capcom (usually) pushes the Wii further than most others with their games (Dead Rising notwithstanding), so I am able to swallow that claim. We'll have to see.

An Iwata Asks has gone up for MH3 in Japan. Here are some exciting details. - Capcom worked extra hard on making the graphics in MH3 the best on Wii - Nintendo's designers were very impressed with the graphics, so much so that the Zelda team really felt the pressure after seeing Capcom's work- Tsujimoto said the Wiimote didn't have enough buttons, and the dev team took right up until the TGS showing to map out the controls - the idea of motion control was tossed out due to the immense amount of hours players spend with this game - Capcom worked with Nintendo to design the Classic Controller Pro - The black plastic on the black Wii took Nintendo two years to develop and is unlike any plastic your ever seen. Source.EDIT: Japanese launch trailer. It's awesome.

Strange comment about the plastic. Unlike ANY plastic I've ever seen, eh? Well, release the black console over here and I'll see about that. XD
And I'm glad that Capcom's raised the bar in terms of graphical prowess on the Wii - they really are quite talented at that, when they set their minds to it. And now Nintendo will step up, too. Win win, says I.

YouTube version of the Japanese launch trailer. Strange comment about the plastic. Unlike ANY plastic I've ever seen, eh? Well, release the black console over here and I'll see about that. XD Here's some quotes about the black plastic (also appears on Wii Remote, Nunchuck and Classic Controller Pro) from NeoGAF. "I saw the Black Wii display model (As well as CCP, Wiimote and Nunchaku) at Yodobashi today. MOTHER OF GOD they are sexy. I don't know what this new wonder plastic is but it's like looking into a solid oil slick. It's blacker then any piece of electronics I've ever seen and really shiny. Definately raises the bar on what good electronics should look like. It's one of those things that probably can't be completely brought out in pictures." Link"Iwata said it took them like 2 years to develop that black plastic, wonder what is so different about it but it looks really nice!" Link"I took a peek at the black plastic of the Wii-mote and holy shit is it the shiniest and cleanest looking black I've seen in a video game peripheral. This stuff is quality." Link"Just picked up my copy on Monster Hunter 3 with the new Classic Controller pro in black, wow the black on the controller is the shinest black I've ever seen I've held it once and it's already full of finger prints." Link"Yay, I got it!! And holyshit, the black plastic is really black!" Link
