Sorry about last time, I think I got it right this time.
This topic is the result of the previous topic started by Shrikeswind... Which was ultimately unsuccessful. However I have taken the suggested characters from that topic in the form of a poll to which it will be decided at some point what the majority of the board agrees on.
The result: A roster made by NinDB that we will make a selection screen for. That's right, we'll design a character selection screen based off of this topic. Featuring our own character art, alternate colors and everything.
IMPORTANT: This is NOT a prediction thread. Sakurai is not involved, we have full control. So get that "what would Sakurai do" mentality out of your head because this is OUR roster.
RULES:
No whining that the character you wanted is not winning.
No demanding more characters, we're done with that.
Don't drag Sakurai into this.
Explain some of your votes. But don't get too into the ones you didn't vote for.
Don't be a douchebag.
NOTE: These are not my choices. These were suggested by all of YOU in the Rumble topic. I unbiasedly put them all up there, with a few exceptions.
Okay, I hope this works. Good luck, the poll will close when things look definite, like we have obvious winners.

As a latecomer to all this I have to chuckle at least a little bit at the fact that this entire forum chose a selection of mostly just Assist Trophies and bosses. I don't know if that says something about the forum or about the assist trophy system. Anyway.
Captain Rainbow's an obvious if rather unorthodox choice for a new franchise, especially given how many new series are likely to actually come into being between now and Smash 4 (didn't Sakurai even complain about just such a thing on the Dojo?). Takamaru's requested enough by everyone and their dog and we need a new retro character (I guess so, anyway), and he was in Rainbow as well for an added bit of relevancy. (More importantly he wasn't Assist Trophied...)
Krystal's in because Starfox gets a new character every game anyway and we might as well get to four, and lord I wanted her in Brawl (and she annoys prudes, which is reason enough to include her in my eyes). K. Rool would be a nice addition now that DK might hopefully be open for new characters at last. (I didn't vote for Dixie because adding more than one new character to a series per game always struck me as excessive, and lately I'm beginning to doubt she could even work without some major creativity. K. Rool meanwhile I can make a moveset off the top of my head in literally ten seconds.)
Wanted to vote for Ray MK x, but I couldn't bring myself to vote for any Assist Trophy characters (the exception being Goroh, and even him I grit my teeth on, but if there's one thing I want to strangle Smash for it's how it doesn't give F-Zero the time of day, so I guess I should be taking any opportunity to fix that). Wouldn't have voted for Ridley had there been any other Metroid character on here, but there aren't and I can't see why Metroid of all things should be left in the cold for new people anyway, so. Actually, eff that noise. Changed my vote and removed Ridley and Goroh.

Do we really have to vote first? If this is supposed to be our choice, then couldn't you at least let us indulge by making our own individual selection screens first then comparing them?

Buuut that assumes that even if we're forced to use the previously-agreed-upon character selection and pick and choose our favourites, that 1. if we want literal character selection screens then only people with a modicum of skill in creating images can participate (unless you want lots and lots of MSPaint blotches, then what the hey), and 2. we'd just be having a dozen different rosters bashing each other in the head anyway, so it'd be more like "YOUR roster, versus YOUR roster, versus YOUR roster, versus the roster of the guy in the back row there, the one with the fedora, take that off you look like a twit."
The intention here, I'm assuming - again, having not taken part in any of the previous discussion and only reading this thread - is that we're trying to get one unanimous roster that the entire board can get behind, and the best way to do that is democratically.

Couldn't we all just drop a vote for everybody, and ultimately not really show any difference? I see that it hasn't occurred yet, but my point is that letting us pick up to the max number of options is like... telling you that you have to choose what days of the year you want 50 bucks on, and you have 365 days to request total.

Did you vote for everyone on the board? No, you only voted for who you wanted. Most of the people on here are going to be like that, I'll bet, even if one or two vote for everybody, it's a little too late for it to actually throw the poll now (he says just now noticing the Retract Vote option, but I kind of doubt anyone will do that unless they literally change their mind and want to deliberately make the poll a worthless endeavour).

I doubt that will happen. And even if it does it really makes no difference. If you limit the votes to short then there will always be that one character that you wanted but couldn't vote for. |

The ones I voted for were: Ridley, Dr. Mario, Roy, Lyn, Toon Zelda, Masked Man, K.Rool, Dixie Kong, Mewtwo, Samurai Goroh and the Advanced Wars rep.
The reason I voted for Dr. Mario, Mewtwo and Roy, mainly because of how good I was with them in Melee, and my disappointment that they didn't make it in the final version of Brawl.
Being the main villain of the DK series, K.Rool also gets my vote (as seanking64 says, a move-set for him wouldn't take long to come up with). Ridley and Samurai Goroh deserve to be playable, due to their respective franchises only having one playable rep in all three games.
I voted for Dixie, Lyn and Toon Zelda mostly because they'd to go someway to redressing the male/female imbalance in the Smash Bros. Series. Ignoring Jigglypuff (whose gender is pretty ambiguous), there are a grand total of 3 females playable (Peach, Zelda/Shiek and Samus/ZSS). However, I didn't vote for Krystal, due to the fact that she'd most likely be yet another carbon copy of Fox (since she doesn't actually use her staff in either Star Fox Adventures or Assault).
As for the Masked Man and Advance Wars rep: Shigesato Itoi has said that there won't be a Mother 4, and I'd like a new Mother character that isn't a modified clone of Ness. Also, I really like the idea of having Andy/Sami/whoever in the background, "directing" a couple of AW infantry troops.

Well put, this is exactly my intention.
Anyway here's my choices.
Dixie Kong: adding her to the roster would make the Kong trio complete, she's also the only other Kong to be the star of her own game.
Krystal: a Star Fox character with the potential of being unique from the rest. She's a popular choice and holds great importance to the series, despite what people say.
Little Mac: a classic Nintendo character with fighting in his blood. He's a more recognizable NES character than Ice Climbers, and he's going to star n a game for the Wii.
Ray MK: a miniature bot with a ton of weapons that just beckon to be used properly in a fight. He stars in a successful Nintendo franchise that deserves better than AT status.
Ridley: the most appropriate Metroid character next to Samus herself. he poses great abilities (obviously) and is Samus' ultimate enemy.
Samurai Goroh: Falcon's rival, and long time popular character of the F-Zero series. The next logical choice for a new F-Zero rep.
Starfy: a newcomer with a popular new franchise that has finally reached the US.

I voted for: Dixie-Like Koopaul said, finish up the Kong trio. K. Rool- I love me some bad guys, and King K. Rool is one of my personal favorites with the potential for a great moveset. Little Mac- Classic character getting set for a comeback. I'd prefer his new look over his old one, personally. Porky-To me, he's more integral to the Mother series as a whole than the Masked Man: he'd work as a rival to both Ness and Lucas. Krystal- Bring on the flames! Okay, I got the current leaders.
It seems that Little Mac and K. Rool are definitely going to be in the roster. I'm not sure when to stop. It seems things keep moving up and down. (with the exception of those two)
