Battles work like Zelda, so I doubt it's that. The only thing that leaps to mind is Y's, but that wasn't for the NES. I'll see if I can figure it out sometime today, Nester. You've gotten me very intrigued about this one.

I think you guys have had enough chances on this one. Answer: Faria: A World of Mystery and Danger! for the NES from Nexoft. No change in the score. Clue: This is a horizontally scrolling shmup on the NES. It has an edit mode that lets you customize the power-ups, including determining how the weapons behave, and the positions of the options.
It's not Gradius.
Guess the game!

Ooh, I knew of Faria, but I didn't think about it when it came to this. Ah well.
Hm. Something's telling me I know this one, but I can't remember it. I'll have to take a look.

The closest I could think of is Fantasy Zone (which its North American version was developed by Tengen, while its Japanese version was developed by Sunsoft), but it doesn't have any options flying around Opa-Opa; however, there is a shop in the game where you can buy things like new weapons and jet upgrades. And the first stage has a lot of plants.

I figured out what game I was thinking of, but I'm not 100% sure about it - Life Force.

It is neither Fantasy Zone, nor Life Force.

I didn't think it was that. Man. Well, I'll see if I can come up with another guess, but I'm doubting it.

Looks like I've stumped you guys twice in a row. Will I make it a hat trick? Answer: Over Horizon for the NES from Takara. This is an odd one, because it was reviewed in Nintendo Power, and they even printed a code for it in a later issue, but as it happens, it was never released in North America. It only came out in Japan and Europe. ScoreboardWildcat - 9 8bitretroshit - 3 Fryguy64 - 3 parrothead - 3 Man-Frog - 1 Johans Nidorino - 1 Clue: This is a puzzle game for the original Game Boy. It's a little like Tetris, except there's no "gravity." You're given a pre-set number of different shaped blocks that all must be placed into a pre-defined playing field. You clear the level when you figure out how to fit all of the pieces into the play field. Guess the game!

That Over Horizon game has some pretty rad music. Would probably never heard it if it wasn't for this thread

Would it be Daedalian Opus?

Would it be Daedalian Opus? Correct! Daedalian Opus for the Game Boy from Vic Tokai. That's ten correct answers from Wildcat! Power level increased! ScoreboardWildcat - 10 8bitretroshit - 3 Fryguy64 - 3 parrothead - 3 Man-Frog - 1 Johans Nidorino - 1 Clue: This is a side-scrolling action adventure for the NES with a sci-fi setting. In it, you travel to different planets, each with different gravitational properties. One is even upside-down. Guess the game!

Don't think it can be anything else but Rad Gravity.

Don't think it can be anything else but Rad Gravity. Absolutely right! The Adventures of Rad Gravity for the NES from Activision. You've got a long way to go to overtake Wildcat! 8bitretroshit +1 ScoreboardWildcat - 10 8bitretroshit - 4 Fryguy64 - 3 parrothead - 3 Man-Frog - 1 Johans Nidorino - 1 Clue: This is a scrolling shoot-em-up for the NES in which you play as a spaceman who can move and shoot in 8 different directions, similar to Capcom's Forgotten Worlds. Guess the game!
