That would be cool, especially if it meant the expanded multiplayer mode included elements from all three games. If that's real, at least.

MY DEAR JAPANESE NINTENDO, WHERE ARE YOU AT TIMES LIKE THIS? T_T
Seriously, multiplayer Metroid with Wii Remotes would be fun. IF ONLY!

Europe Metroid fans may like this bit of news, which I pulled from my last VC/Ware update post: ...another caveat for those planning to get the Metroid Prime Trilogy in Europe - NoE has said that the first 5000 people who register their copy of the game will get a free download of the original Metroid...but there's two small catches, alas. First, if you already have Metroid, you don't count. And second, you have to have purchased and registered an earlier game in the Prime trilogy before now...which is a bizarre twist. But if you've done that, a free game for you!

"Hey guys! If you're buying one of our games for a second time, then we'll give you a small consolation prize!"
Oh Nintendo.

It's now officially been confirmed that MP3 save files DO NOT WORK with the MPT version of MP3.
Here's the reason . . .
"Due to the way the game data is allocated for production and the changes that we made in the source code, we were unfortunately unable to carry over the save file compatibility from MP3 to Trilogy." - Mike Wikan, lead game designer at Retro Studios

Hang on... Don't you unlock the original Metroid when you beat Metroid Prime anyway?

Nope. You had to connect it to Fusion via the GBA/GC cables to unlock it and the Fusion Suit model for Prime. Granted, to make the option appear, you had to beat Prime first...

Developers voice video for MPT.
Interesting quotes.
“Mike Wikan likes to tell a story about Mr. Miyamoto asking us during the early design phases of Prime 1, ‘What would it be like if Samus had a bug’s head?’” – Brian Walker, Senior Producer
“And at the time, I remember going back to our office and saying, ‘Switching heads? What does that have to do with Metroid?’” – Mike Wikan, Senior Designer
“He wasn’t asking if she had the head of a fly…” – Walker
“…He was talking about the mechanic of altered perception as a whole.” – Wikan
“And from that, the visor system came to be, where Samus could see different things with different visors and use that as a puzzle-solving element.” – Walker
“Trilogy was not planned as a trilogy from the beginning.” – Mike Wikan, Senior Game Designer
“When we finished the first game us and Retro, were really happy. And that was the first time we thought about making a trilogy.” – Kensuke Tanabe, Producer

Gamestop emailed me to tell me they ran out of posters for the pre-order bonus, so they gave me a ten dollar coupon. Those fools!

According to Nintendo, Samus isn't a bounty hunter.Taken from this long article talking about Retro Studios.( Page 8 to be exact) Samus really isn't about the money, a truth that confused the developer -- and me, upon hearing this story -- when it presented Nintendo a gameplay design that appealed to Aran's chosen occupation. "We were looking for something more along the lines of a mission-based game where Samus collected bounties. And for the life of us we couldn't understand why [Nintendo was] being so resistive to that concept. And then over the period of days we came to understand that their definition of a bounty hunter is not a bounty hunter. It is not someone who brings in bad guys for money. That concept was completely outside of their definition," says Walker. Nintendo told Retro that Samus does not actually take bounties for those she hunts. (Someone should tell Nintendo that Aran has officially been labeled a bounty hunter for two decades now, a slight inconsistency.) "So we started joking that Samus was actually a pro-bono hunter. And occasionally we'll run into those nuances of translation and culture that can sometimes derail us for days."

That's pretty interesting. The definition of bounty hunter never did seem to fit her. Even if she was paid, she always seemed more like a mercenary than a bounty hunter. I wonder if by that extension, that the hunters from Hunters and Corruption are also real bounty hunters or something else entirely.

Metroid always seemed to misuse common terms. I mean Space Pirates being an organized force? Seriously.
I think "Bounty Hunter" is just Nintendo's term for a "Space-Faring Good Guy" considering Captain Falcon and arguably the Star Fox team are called that.

That's very true. In Metroid Hunters, they use the term "Galaxy" to describe what is clearly just a star system. Super Mario Galaxy does this too, but that's a bit more excusable. I guess Galaxy is more catchy than System.
EDIT: Since the F-Zero anime was made in Japan, does anyone remember if Falcon or Goroh ever do any kind of bounty hunting? From what I read about it, that doesn't seem like the case. Falcon mostly helped out the Federation Police and Goroh went around being a badass.
