I'm pretty sure those are dumbbells. I was thinking that when I got to that boss fight when I was 7, so I'm going to stick to it.
The Donkey Kong Jr. thing is valid though, and one of my favorite things about that game. IIRC, the Jungle levels used a lot of the DKJr. enemies too.
(I still say the Nitpicker in Ice Climber is a DKJR. cameo. =P)

That doesn't qualify as a cameo on any level. Those are characters from the same bloody series as the game!

Would MooMoo Farm from Pokemon GSC count? I guess we can't prove it is named after the Mario Kart 64 course, but IMO, it deserves a possible mention.

Fry, are you counting the jungle levels of DK 94 as cameos? I'm replaying it to rip sprites, so I'd be happy to get screenshots for you.
And I will def get one of the DK JR. boss fight late in the game.

I've been playing through a bunch of games again to get fresh screenshots as well.
I wouldn't necessarily say they count as cameos though. Any more than the opening stages are a cameo of arcade Donkey Kong.

Here's an unusual Cameo or Reference. The Teddy Bear Mini Game from the Game Boy Color game, Spiderman 2: Sinister Six. As you can see the minigame borrows certain game play from a long forgotten game, Fire [/img] Attachments:

While that does indeed reference Fire, the game was not made by Nintendo and as such, won't be on the site.

There's a minigame in Beauty & The Beast: A Boardgame Adventure, however, that also riffs on Fire, and that one was published by Nintendo...
And not forgetting the puppy-catching minigame in Earthworm Jim 2!

Speaking of Ness (from another topic), are you going to count beta cameos, Fry? Because the default names in the Red/Blue beta in English were Ninten and.... Sony.

How do we know that's a beta? In fact, it totally skips over the bit where we get to see the default names, which makes me think it's a hoax

Good point. Supposedly its still in the data, though, and can be brought up by hacking. I'll try to find some extra stuff on it for you.

The entire game has been ripped to shreds several times over. I'm sure if it was in there it would have been found many years ago. The skipping-over-the-name part is hugely suspicious, as that section of the game IS in the Japanese version, and I doubt they would take it out for a Beta localization...
But if you can find anything, I will need to see it replicated...

So far my research has yielded this link: glitchcity.info/wiki/index.php/NINTENIt gives you a way to replicate the thing yourself, assuming you have a GBC Gameshark- and if you don't, someone here does. EDIT: Using Visualboy Advance, an emulator, I can confirm that yes, this does indeed work.

Nice... By that time, Sony was already being seen as a rival.
(You're not thinking it's a Mother cameo, are you, Qu?)
