Well, there goes that cameo. I only remember Soda Popinski using it. Still interesting, and one of the most blatently reused sound effects of Nintendo's 8 bit era.

Another hardware cameo! In Adventure Island, there is a Famicom controller in stages where there are bosses. You get 1,000 points for picking it up. Attachments:

It would fit... if Adventure Island were counted here. It's not a Nintendo game, Nenson.

The Starting intro for the Nintendo World Championships 90 competition cart is the first few notes of the Super Mario Bros. theme and the ending results song in Nintendo World Championships 90 is the ending Song to Super Mario Bros.

Interesting note at Smash Ping Pong/Smash Table Tennis: NinDB tells that Donkey Kong Jr. is in the crowd. While NoE's page supports that, NCL's site on the game (which was created much earlier due to the Japanese release in late 2008) simply calls the character Donkey Kong, without the Jr. Who's right now?

Hmm... well it LOOKS like Donkey Kong Jr., which was why I stated it was Junior. I think I might side with NoE on this one (well, unless they got their information from NinDB!)

Either from there or from English Wikipedia. The Japanese Wikipedia refers to him as Donkey Kong since the article's creation in 2007. Hm, hard to tell. The Kong lacks Junior's trademark shirt, so he isn't clearly identifiable. Well, it's up to you, Fry, but personally I'd rather go with NCL's opinion than with NoE's one.

...I can see Jr.'s shirt in that sprite.

...I can see Jr.'s shirt in that sprite. I thought the same at first, too. But when the Kong turns around, his back is all dark, so he doesn't seem to wear a shirt. The light parts of the sprite might just be his bosom. But not wearing a shirt doesn't confirm that he is the father ape, either. Junior has been naked in the Game & Watch games.

That's the gorilla enemy from MOTHER. Anybody else think it looks suspiciously close to Donkey Kong, especially the original designs? Not to mention the famous "I'm playing Super Mario Bros. 7" line, with another kid saying, "I'm still on 3..."

I'd actually like to see a screenshot of that Mother cameo... ideally in both the English and Japanese versions (where the cameos are reportedly different).
Donkey Kong looks like a gorilla, and the gorilla in Mother looks like a gorilla, but I don't think the similarities are great enough to justify cameo status.

I'll try to get you the American version on screenshot, Fry.
And I didn't think you'd think the gorrila was a cameo- but the color and "soft serve flip" made me wonder...

The point the head comes to- it's a phrase borrowed from Homestar Runner.
