Wow! That's cool. Was anyone else grateful to Kirby for spitting the kid across the universe? I just saw that vid on a Something Awful thread about terrible video game commericials and thought of this thread. Too bad I got beat too it! A small feature on commercial cameos would be interesting, if there are enough of them. I can only think of two- this one and the recent Golden Sun commerical.

Ahem. Having played the game, having cleared the game, I can confirm that the two characters that appear in game bear absolutely no resemblance to Mario or Luigi. If I'm not going to credit the NES Golf dude, I'm not going to credit these two generic sprites. They also get out and face the camera at the end of the rally. If you were expecting Mario and Luigi, you're going to be very disappointed. I knew you'd bring that up between my comment telling about them repairing their car and your comment. I was watching it on YouTube, and noticed that they looked too small to be identified as themselves. However, in the original SNES F-ZERO, Captain Falcon and the other three drivers show too little detail of themselves to be identified in the game, but they were shown and mentioned in the instruction booklet. Perhaps Mario & Luigi are at least mentioned in the instruction booklet of 3D Hot Rally, but in order to find out, we'll have to have someone that knows both Japanese and English. While I was typing this comment, I watched a gameplay video of 3D Hot Rally on Nico Nico Douga (registration required to view), and I noticed at the end, their mustaches and noses are visible. I guess Nico Nico Douga made it large enough for me to tell:

Ossan from Golf also had a mustache and looked a lot like Mario. If Fry didn't accept him as a cameo, he's not accepting those.
Although, I'll admit that they do sorta look like low res versions of the Bros.

Miyamoto says he made the game with Mario specifically as the driver. Miyamoto: To explain how it happened, there was a racing game that the company Iwata-san was at, called HAL Laboratory, Inc.16, had made. HAL Laboratory had always been strong in technology, so they made a racing game with courses featuring ups and downs like you’d never seen before. But…it just wasn’t fun. Iwata: Yeah. Everyone: (laughs) Miyamoto: They thought it was really awesome, but probably wouldn’t sell the way it was, so I got involved. Iwata: In other words, you fixed it. (laughs) Miyamoto: It was a normal racing game, but I remade the overall structure of the rallies and made the main character Mario. In other words, it became a game in which Mario races a buggy around courses with a lot of intense ups and downs.

So this proves that Mario is the driver, but no mention of Luigi.

Maybe it's so obvious, or not, that nobody's ever thought to put this one up:

Mind = Blown. And to think, I always wondered why the hell the spades had "N"s on them.

Very interesting Megabyte.
Anyway, when I was watching the film "Enter The Dragon", I heard these two voice samples in the film being used in Nintendo's Arm Wrestling. Both were said by the antagonist Han (Shih Kien). Bruce Lee was quite popular back then and influenced several Japanese fictional characters and others.
Insert coin - "We have been waiting for you!"
Press Start after inserting coin(s) - "Gentleman, let the tournament begin!"

Haha, that IS too obvious! It's been right there in front of everybody's face for... 23 years Anyway, when I was watching the film "Enter The Dragon", I heard these two voice samples in the film being used in Nintendo's Arm Wrestling. Both were said by the antagonist Han (Shih Kien). Bruce Lee was quite popular back then and influenced several Japanese fictional characters and others. Interesting. Voice samples from the film required, as I don't own a copy of Enter the Dragon.

This isn't really a cameo, but it is damn interesting. The Devil from Devil World is clearly based on Devilman from Go Nagai's manga and anime. Salamance is likely based on Devilman as well.
