Part 4 of the cameo hunt is for the Nintendo 64. There's quite a few more here than on the earlier systems, so this will take a little while. As usual, cameos highlighted green mean I require help.
Nintendo64
Animal Crossing
(I will populate this page when working on the Gamecube releases)
Banjo-Kazooie
1. On the middle selection on the file select screen, Banjo is playing a Game Boy with 8-bit Banjo-Kazooie music. (Screenshot needed)
2. On Rusty Bucket Bay, one of the portholes takes you to the sailors' sleeping quarters. One of the beds has a poster of Berri from the unreleased "Twelve Tales: Conker 64"
3. A beaver named Gnawty appears in Click Clock Woods. Gnawty was also the name of the beavers in Donkey Kong Country.
4. Gruntilda's quiz at the end of the game has a number of answers to select based on Donkey Kong, Conker and other games. (Complete answers / text rip required, plus a screenshot).
5. The Rusty Bucket ship says "Rusty Bucket - Twycross, England" on the back. Twycross is where Rare is based.
Banjo-Tooie
1. In Bottles' house, Goggles has a poster of Juno in his room, and Speccy has a poster of Vela, both from Jet Force Gemini.
2. Speccy is also holding a DK doll.
3. In the Grunty Industries workers quarters is another poster of Vela.
4. Also in the workers quarters is a refrigerator with several magnets attached. They are logos of Rareware, Donkey Kong, Banjo-Tooie, Jet Force Gemini and Perfect Dark.
5. In Hailfire Peaks is a character called Sabreman who has been frozen there since 1984. This is a classic Rare character from Sabre Wulf. His tent has the Sabre Wulf logo on the side.
6. When Sabreman falls asleep, he dreams of taking a ride on a dolphin. The Dolphin was the working title for the Gamecube.
7. In Witchyworld's Dodgems Dome, look up at the constellations, and you will see a constellation of Rare website character Mr. Pants.
8. In Boggy's Igloo on Hailfire Peaks, Mr. Pants appears on his new widescreen television.
9. In Grunty Industries, several boxes say "Deliver to Twycross, England". Twycross is where Rare is based.
Blast Corps.
The Baboon Catacomb game is based on Namco's Pac-Man.
Diddy Kong Racing
Banjo and Conker appeared in this game before their own games were released.
Donkey Kong 64
1. In DK's cabin there are things from his previous adventures, including girders, the gramophone and stereo from Donkey Kong Country, etc. On one wall is a picture of a dolphin. The dolphin was the working title for the Gamecube.
2. In the Frantic Factory stage, head into the testing area to find a classic Donkey Kong arcade machine. If DK has learned how to pull switches then you can play the full original game.
3. Once you've collected a load of Banana Tokens, Cranky will give you a chance to win a Rare Coin. In order to do it, you have to play Rare's first ever game, Jetpac, originally released on the ZX Spectrum.
Excitebike 64
By beating Training Mode you can unlock the original Excitebike. You can also unlock "Excite 3D", which is the original game with Excitebike 64 graphics.
F-Zero X
1. The first track in the Joker Cup is a copy of Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 64.
2. One of the new challengers is a droid called Mr. EAD (with stats E, A and D respectively). His face looks like Mario, and he has a Starman on his belt. EAD is the name of the development studio that created both Mario and F-Zero.
3. Another new challenger is James McCloud, who is a human version of the same character from Star Fox 64. He is wearing Star Fox uniform and his racer is shaped like an Arwing.
Goldeneye 007
1. One of the first cheats you unlock is DK Mode. This mode gives the characters large heads and arms like a gorilla.
2. The weapons were all given custom named. One of these, the KLOBB, is named after Ken Lobb, formerly a Nintendo employee. (Screenshot needed)
Jet Force Gemini
1. Collect 300 ant heads to unlock the Mr. Pants Enemies cheat. This changes all of the basic drones into the stickman character from Rare's website.
2. On the planet Tawfret, there is a hieroglyph of Mr. Pants.
These cameos are not currently on the website and need screenshots to go with them.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
1. Check out the Happy Mask Salesman's backpack. One of the masks is of Mario.
2. In the basement of the Clock Town observatory, break some jars to find a drawing of a dolphin on the ground. Dolphin was the working title of the Gamecube.
3. In the Great Zora Hall, the Zora band the Indigo-gos are jamming in their rooms. All of their riffs are from the original Legend of Zelda and A Link to the Past.
4. When you have all of the main masks, you can play a song called Ballad of the Wind Fish in the Milk Bar.
(Should I include cameos copied over from Ocarina of Time, such as Malon/Ingo?)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
1. Talon and Ingo are based on Mario and Luigi. Talon and Malon are both wearing Bowser pendants.
2. In the Hyrule Castle garden where you meet Zelda, look in through the right-hand window. You can see pictures of Mario, Yoshi, Peach and Bowser.
3. The first mask you get from the Happy Mask Salesman is the Keaton Mask. This yellow mask with pointy ears is "all the rage" in Hyrule. It strongly resembles Pikachu from the Pokemon series.
4. In Dodongo's Cavern, reach the second floor and look out for an unusual sign shaped like a stone tablet. This same tablet also appeared in Super Mario 64 under the star in Peach's garden. Debate still rages over whether it says "Eternal Star" or not.
Mario Artist
(There are many cameos in this game but very little information on any of them).
1. Stamps are available of artwork from Mario, Pokemon, Ocarina of Time, Pilotwings 64, Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie.
2. Known music for making movies include: Clu Clu Land and Totaka's Song.
Mario Golf
The tournament leaderboard contains the names of many characters from the Mario, Zelda and Star Fox games.
Pilotwings 64
1. Lark is based on the Nintendo Power comic character Nester.
2. On the Little States stage, Mt. Rushmore features Mario's face in place of George Washington. If you hit the face with a Gyrocopter missile or human cannonball it turns into Wario's face.
Pokemon Stadium 2
If you use the videogame systems your mom buys you in Pokemon Gold/Silver in "My Room" mode in PS2, you can see games appear on the screen (full list will be included).
Sim City 64
As in the SNES game, you can unlock a Mario Statue for your city.
Super Smash Bros.
(Still to come)
Yoshi's Story
1. Totaka's Song appears on the Trial Mode stage select screen.
2. In the underground sewer stages, the levels are made out of torn-up newspapers. On them you can see several Nintendo character names including: Nintendo, N64, Yoshi, No.1 Yoshi's Story, Mario, Luigi, Wario, Zelda and Pikachu.
Certainly missing
Mario Party series
Are there no cameos in these games? I find it difficult to believe there's none at all...
Paper Mario
Are there really no cameos of note in this game?
Perfect Dark
I'm sure there's cameos in this game. I wonder why nobody's ever sent them in...
Ridge Racer 64
I know this game contains a million Nintendo and Namco cameos, but nobody's ever sent them in. I need a list and screenshots.
Sports titles
Do any of the NBA Courtside or Ken Griffey Jr. games have cameos in?
