I have often wondered what an Egyptian Sphynx-type pokemon would look like.
I really can't think of any british "animal-based" myths off the top of my head. All our myths are King Arthur and witches and wizards and the like. Oh, theres trolls, living under bridges and in caves.

I'm not too familiar with Japanese myths, but those are interesting. There are several ghost legends in my country, including these: 1 2 3 4. Imagine how many you could gather from around the world. The same goes for bugs. There are lots that could be added. I wish Bug-type Pokémon weren't that weak in average terms, but I guess it's only natural given that they're meant to be the first Pokémon you encounter and that they're so vulnerable in real life. Before they reveal next generation's starter trio, I want to draw my own take on them. I'll probably post them in that old fanart thread.

I'd like to see more Australian Pokemon. Imagine how cool a Dream Pokémon would be. And I'm talking Aboriginal Dreamtime sort of dream, not "I'm flying in a mall-church with a talking salmon" sort of dream. Although you have to admit, a flying talking salmon Pokémon would be pretty damn interesting. But I'm talking about like a Psychic/Fighting kangaroo Pokémon or something.
Speaking of salmon, I'd like to see that, actually. Alot of pre-Christian northern European myths (as in the British Isles, Scandinavia, etc.) feature salmon as wise creatures. If I could get my hands on a Water/Psychic salmon Pokémon, that'd be awesome.
And, of course, the lack of mosquitos is odd. It'd be a great Pokémon to put in the swamp, and it'd be a good Bug/Poison Pokémon. It'd work as a really good common Pokémon, like a swamp Zubat, or as a swarm Pokémon on random routes.

Let's see:
Rapidash based off the Unicorn/ Fiery Steeds of Greek mythology. Mime Jr. and Mr. Mime are based off of Mimes and clowns of European decent. Murkrow is based off of Western witches.
What else is western?

But I'm talking about like a Psychic/Fighting kangaroo Pokémon or something. That needs to be done. It reminds me of something: four years go, Pokémon fan Purple Kecleon drew her own set of starters. Some unfounded rumors were around that the elemental types of the starter trio were going to be Dark, Psychic and Fighting that time. She fooled lots of fans on the Internet when this arose ( click). I'm still fond of the kangaroo.

They should base more Pokemon off of Irish mythology. Imagine how a Leprechaun Pokemon would look. ;D

I'd prefer a banshee. Ghost/Dark with Perish Song, Hyper Voice, and several other such sound-based moves to cause pain (no Sing, therefore.) Maybe some ability that negates Soundproof, likely called Shrill Voice. And the name'd better be Irish in spelling and pronunciation. No way will I condone Shreekmiss or whatever other English-y names they can come up with. Such an awesome idea shouldn't be tainted with a shit name. Also, she'd be like Mismagius crossed with Froslass, but obviously with individual traits like banshee hair.
Also, a griffin a griffin for the love of God a griffin. Flying/Dragon would be perfect. (If it were an Eeveelution, I would expect pure Dragon, but it'd be a great Flying type for non-Eevees.) Why Dragon? Just seems appropriate.

She fooled lots of fans on the Internet when this arose ( click). I'm still fond of the kangaroo. I kinda like the bottom left one too, reminds me of a Koala. Still plenty of animal species left to be turned into pocket sized monsters that's for sure. I know Girafarig already has the living tail thing going on, but a more brute Chimera-esque monster would be neato. Or maybe a Manticore, everything's better with scorpion tails. Also a Faun, or something goat-like. Goats are awesome.

Here's more proof Japan believes in a weirdass spandex wearing blue devil: www.internationalhero.co.uk/d/devilman2.jpgAny list we write is going to pretty much cover all 495 species, easily. If we're going past yokai, there's plenty of others out there. Here's a few more clever/interesting ones... Arceus is "qilin," the Chinese creator god. I think the thing is even a centaur, sorta like Arceus. The descriptions definitely match. Giratina is a "basilisk," esp. in the Origin Form. Deoxys is apparently based on monsters from Evangelion, Zone of the Enders, etc. Chimchar's line is Son Gokuu from the "Journey to the West" myth. Trapinch is just a doodlebug/antlion, and Vibrava is an adult antlion, but Flygon is a "faerie dragon." Look it up. Farfetch'd is infamous for being named after (in Japanese) a popular roast duck and leek dish. Poor bastard XD Mew is a fetus (look at the damn thing!) and a "magical cat," Celebi is a wood nymph, Jirachi is a Chinese genie (you would write your wish on a piece of paper, then attach it to the genie's head; think Hsien-Ko from Darkstalkers), Manaphy and Phione are both sea butterflies (which are real creatures, but maybe attached to some Japanese superstition), Shaymin is a hedgehog but the Sky Form is basically a variant of the flying kitsune (think Inuyasha). Legendary birds are all "Western" if we're talking more "European" creatures: Moltres is the "firebird," a bit different from a phoenix; Articuno is an Arabian "anka" (sp?), an icy mountain bird that foresees omens; and Zapdos is the Native American Thunderbird. EDIT: I finally read all the other posts on this page. I would LOVE to see manticore or a chimera. They need to pump out more "monstrous" legendaries, instead of all these super-Asian happy ones. Also, Frog, I made up a leprechaun once It was called Blarney and it was pure-Grass with the ability Super Luck. Totally needs to happen.

Also on a similar note, the yowie could also work, though once again there is a whole bunch of different interpretations on what they are supposed to look like.

Hm...bunyip, you say? I got one. The son of a Slowbro and a Golduck and the daughter of a Whiscash and a Marshtomp make with the sexy-time. But rather than me posting a picture, I ask you to come up with your own Shrikeswind PokéBunyip. In fact, how about we make it a contest? Post a picture of your bunyip following those specifications and the winner will be given...well, whatever I think of. Probably a giant Goron hug or something.
Also, would mole people and bears work for a cave? Seems like the perfect idea for molemen jokes and Lord knows cave bears need some remembering.

New scans show more artworks of Zoroark and Zorua. Still no word on more new Pokémon, or on Lugia or Ho-Oh since last year's teaser.

I've just thought of something. We're in a generation featuring a God Pokémon, Arceus, who learns a move called "Judgment," a move which, if I'm not mistaken, is elemental death-rain, so you could go all Sodom and Gomorrah on someone if you have the Flame Plate (the reference goes one step further, that's why they were destroyed, a sort of final judgment.) His PokéDex entry mentions that when he wakes up, it's the end of the world. Rumors are circulating about Zoroark's involvement in the destruction of the Brass Tower. Might we get some more apocalyptic (and thus bad-ass) Pokémon this generation? I mean, I doubt we're going to get PokéGedon, but it's still a fun thought.

I have often wondered what an Egyptian Sphynx-type pokemon would look like. I missed this before, but Shinx, Luxio and Luxray weren't enough?
