Through the years, each time a new generation of Pokémon species approaches or even in the middle of one, Game Freak publishes through magazines, television programs and bonus accessories the existence of Pokémon that are about to be revealed to appear in movies or new game versions. These Pokémon are first hinted in the form of silhouettes or question marks. Sometimes it's just about Pokémon that are making a surprise appearance in a movie. Sometimes it's a new form of an existing Pokémon (of which there were lots in this fourth generation). And sometimes, especially when they're silhouettes, it's about totally new Pokémon. I think it's exciting when they do that, don't you guys agree? So I'm making this thread for us to talk about any mystery Pokémon that may appear from now until the announcement of fifth-generation games. So, a community of Pokémon collectors found last week a picture with promotional toys for the next Pokémon movie featuring Celebi and the Burned Tower Pokémon (Entei, Suicune and Raikou). Two of the toys have a question mark on them. I bet in this case they're Lugia and Ho-Oh. Both are in a teaser shown last year, but they're nowhere in the official movie site yet. Plus the fact that they're 2 and they're in Master Balls instead of Ultra Balls must mean they're higher-rank monsters.

Well they've surprised us before. One time it looked like Notchearchu was going to be a new Pokemon.

Sadly, it's just Lugia and Ho-Oh. Those two will have to be in any movie based on HGSS. If the "god trio" of Sinnoh can get like... four movies in their name, Lugia can get its second and Ho-Oh its... first, actually.
Yeah, it's definitely Ho-Oh and Lugia.

Has Ash even seen Ho-oh again since the first (second?) episode and that one Johto episode?
Come to think of it...has his Primeape ever been mentioned again? God, I love Primeape.

There was a running joke over at the RPGamer Pokemon forums years back that being kicked by James was the key to Pokemon evolution, courtesy of Magikarp and Mankey. Sadly, Ash's Primeape never showed up again (nor did the awesome Golduck). It seems Ho-oh has been seen again.

I hadn't noticed he actually evolved Pokémon that way more than once x-D Outside of the anime continuity, all of Ash's Pokémon that we knew until the Battle Frontier saga were featured in a Japanese opening called Spurt!. A fan kindly gathered scenes from it and pasted the full Battle Frontier song in this video.

ITS PIKACHU! OH GOD DAMN IT Where the hell is that from? my friends keep saying it and I have no idea. Has Ash even seen Ho-oh again since the first (second?) episode and that one Johto episode? Come to think of it...has his Primeape ever been mentioned again? God, I love Primeape. A buddy of mine and I have confirmed that Ash NEVER keeps any awesome Pokemon. Butterfree, Haunter, Primeape, Pidgeot...sent Bulbasaur, Kingler, Snorlax, Muk, Heracross, Corphis and Torkoal to Oak's, lent Squirtle and Charizard out, traded Aipom to Dawn (who then let it evolve and gave it away), and he just recently let Gliscor go too. Now he has the thrilling team of Staraptor, Buizel, Gibble, Grotle, Monferno and Pikachu It's a matter of course. Ash is not allowed to be awesome, which is why he's been cruising the Pokemon circuit for ten years and never won one of those final tournament things.

He does tend to train them and get rid of them pretty quick. Stupid tard! The stadium battles tend to be when he takes advantage of his less obvious Pokemon. Who can forget the Muk vs. Bellsprout or the awesome Krabby/Kingler vs. Exeggcute.

A friend of mine over at TMK (#tmk to be exact) always said that to remedy the "Ash is stuck in a temporal restraining bolt" problem of the anime, they should've followed the games and replaced him with a new protagonist for each season.

He does tend to train them and get rid of them pretty quick. Stupid tard! Yeah, I do that myself. Admittedly, my battle team is composed of the two most pissed off Pokemon in the entire freaking universe, Gyarados and Primeape, but the fact remains that they're the only two non-legendary Pokemon I've ever kept long after evolution (okay, I kept a couple of the rarer ones that you only get one or two of or are so hard to find you have to go through fifty rounds in the Safari Zone to see one, no less catch, but still.) I've even dropped a Nidoking. The thing is, if you can bad-ass out two Pokemon, you will have little problems because you're focusing 3 times as much energy into a Pokemon as you would focus on the same Pokemon if it you had six Pokemon, and if you have 1? You're putting in 6 times as much because you aren't constantly switching between battles, so it's just "Okay kill that, okay kill that, okay kill that...." and it's alot less strenuous than spreading your energy over six Pokemon. The danger is that you have 1 Pokemon, so if a super-effective attack hits it (for example, an Electric-type hitting Gyarados,) you're screwed. That's actually why I train two Pokemon, I get to spend half of my time on a single Pokemon, but my Pokemon negate each other's weaknesses with their own strengths and neutrals. Ash has a particularly bad strategy, however, because he tries to do this WITH A FULL TEAM, and has no discernable release pattern. That is why he fails.

Yes. Also if it had less stand alone episodes and more mini arcs (I remember something about a baby Lugia) it probably wouldn't be so bad. Instead we get an episode dedicated to a submarine dwelling geezer studying magicarp. Where the hell is that from? my friends keep saying it and I have no idea. GOD DAMMIT AUUUUUUUUU-

From SPP The final details of CoroCoro have come out, with thanks to yaminokame for translation, and they indicate that the next issue, due for release on Feburary 15th, is set to reveal the Key Pokémon for the upcoming movie; Phantom Champion Z is to be revealed. CoroCoro states that people will be surprised at its appearance in the movie. It is unknown if it will be a new Pokémon or if it will be a previous Pokémon. We'll bring more as it comes What could one be surprised at?

Potential main cast teammate returns? It'd be pretty surprising if, say, Butterfree returned. Or next-gen Pokémon.
