Alright, here's the story. Recently, I decided I was getting bored with Brawl, because it was all pretty routine. I mean, once you unlock everything, it's all the same old thing (especially since all I had left was some sticker collecting.) So, I deleted my data (I had recently moved 11 of my favorite stages to an SD Card, but otherwise, DELETE.) So, my game was basically mint condition. And now, I'm playing it from the beginning again. I've recently enough unlocked all the characters, and the stages aren't far behind. Music's still randomly being unlocked (I love getting CDs! I really missed them playing with everything unlocked already.) Don't have any Assists (well, Shadow and Gray Fox.) It's actually pretty fun again. But it doesn't feel like it'll last. But you have your question, and a follow-up not actually a part of the poll: Do you think things should have been harder to unlock in the first place?

I see your point, and it is valid. I remember reseting my Melee File over and over again, it was just fun to get all the characters...
And I've done that once in Brawl, too. I still haven't gotten every CD yet, but I've gotten every character and Stage. While it was fun... I do part take in a more social environment in Brawl than I ever did in Melee. So when one day friends came over to Brawl, I noticed I had almost no one, and my Standard Brawl main is Falco, though I can still use pretty much anyone and win (I've won a small tournament with a bunch of friends with Link), so we had to do a few battle before we could use our mains (Good thing none of us mains with Wolf x-D). So yeah, I did restart my file once, and alone it was worth it, but with friends... not worth it.
So yeah, I'd happily say that Brawl should have had its unlockables harder to get, but only if there would be files (which is unlikely). Anyway, since none of these choices fit me, I'll choose one of my country's exportations, Salmon.

SALMON. Fuck yeah.
But...let's see. I'm kind of on two tracks here: first, yeah, I'd like it if Brawl's unlocks took a little more time without being tedious (*pointed glare at Mewtwo*), but as it stands, if I want to get a friend into Brawl, I want them to have access to everything right off the bat, including characters and stages. So...it should be optional.
Yeah, I said it. You should be able to turn on or off the option to unlock things. It makes the entire concept moot, I know, but I'd have damn fun doing it the hard way.

That was the BEST reaction to salmon I have ever seen, and my sister has some pretty damn awesome ones.
Anyways, I'm not expecting Mewtwo-esque unlocking (though the concept is sound, it should have taken half as long, which could be done without jack-assing up your stats, in under a week and possibly even next day if you get into it enough.) Just have a couple hoops to jump through, like "Play through Classic on Hard through Intense as Link and Zelda for a chance to unlock Ganondorf" or something, rather than "Complete 5 Brawls in Shadow Moses for a chance to unlock Snake." That way, it takes about a half hour no matter what rather than 5 minutes or even less. Yeah, you can still 1P the game in a day or two before calling up the guys and saying "Hey, just unlocked all the characters in Brawl, come on over!" Plus, I don't think optional unlocking would sit well with developers.

I deleted my Melee save once and immediately regretted it. Brawl is even bigger and many of the unlock conditions more tedious, so no... I do not want to spend another 3 hours of my life smacking Jigglypuff about in a CD factory stage. Ever.

I remember some hearing some indie dev, saying about they had put an optional unlock for the all the stuff in their game, if you found it too difficult to unlock by playing the game normally. The reason for doing it was this: "If you brought the game, you should have the right to access to everything (unlockable) in the game." Also Intellgent Systems made all the maps in Advance Wars:DoR/DC avalible from the very start, due to hearing complaints about people (possibly Japanese) haviing to spend large amounts of time in single player to unlock maps in the past games. (I believe western reviewers did not like that everything was avalible form the start). But . . . and even more extreme version of unlocking stuff was done by EA on the 360. They made special $buyable$ DLC that unlocks everything in the game for you, so you don't even have to play the game.

Yes I have deleted all my save data on Brawl, just because I wanted to start the game afresh. As for things being harder to unlock, I'm going to have to answer with a resounding NO!

When it comes to unlockables, it has to add something to the game. Some of the worst things are:
Do It Again, But Harder Beating a game (especially a tough game) and being rewarded with a more difficult replay. This may have been excusable back in the old days of the NES when games were shorter and more limited in how to extend play, but when I beat a game, it's no reward to be told you've only beaten 50% of it, so play it all again with slight differences. Offenders: Diddy Kong Racing, Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros. DS. (DKR especially was sweared at loudly and never played again).
Good, But Not Good Enough You play through the game to find out there's a super-secret ending that can only be unlocked by doing something mundane or near-impossible in the game. Easier to look it up on YouTube! Offenders: Sonic the Hedgehog series, Metroid Prime series
Jigglypuffesque Clearing a challenge and being rewarded with something that isn't actually a reward: usually a character that is weak as all hell, or too similar to characters already available. Offenders: Smash Bros. series, Mario Kart series
You Paid For It, But Can't Have It... Yet The idea of having all unlockable content available from the beginning means most people won't take advantage of the challenge. But what about when you have specifically dished out money expecting something in particular, but you have to go through hell to unlock it? Sonic and Snake in Smash Bros. featured heavily in pre-release footage, but you have to endure the controversial 1P adventure to unlock them. Usually a problem with compilations of old games, where several games are locked for no good reason. Offenders: Smash Bros. Brawl, Sonic Mega Collection (I have to enter and exit each game up to 30 times to unlock the rest of the games? Gee, thanks for that particular challenge!)
OCD Alert! Trophies, galleries, figurines, stickers, music... There are hundreds of them hidden in the game, but in order to get them you have to perform some repetitive action over and over again in order to get them all. Then there'll be some that require specific conditions to unlock. Invariably, there'll be common and rare ones as well. Offenders: Pokemon series (some would argue that was the point), Smash Bros. series, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker & The Minish Cap, Kirby Air Ride
Not a Reward At All!!! Conglaturation! You get a shiny tick next to your save file! Offenders: Too many to name
There's a lot of discussion over what's fair when it comes to unlockable content. I would probably pay for DLC that would unlock everything in Brawl, just because my alternative is to use a cheat disc or hacked save file. I will never be able to achieve those last few things within reason, and I will hate the game by the time I actually do achieve them under my own steam. Remember how to unlock Diskun in SSBM? Yeah... Action Replayed that particular gem.
I want to be challenged, but I don't want to be challenged to do repetitive or stupid things. I like collecting trophies and CDs in the Smash Bros. games, but I am never going to collect all the Subspace Emissary trophies, because I've beaten that mode already and that would be boring as all hell! I've never collected all the figurines in The Wind Waker or Minish Cap, especially as some of them are one-shot-only chances, which is totally gay!
The problem? I will try to complete these challenges. I will try and "Catch Em All". I will sit there and enter/exit all the games on Sonic Mega Collection. And I'll hate it!
Damn, my posts are getting longer and longer...

With SSE there's the distinct advantage of a Kirby Exit Plan, i.e., you get what you want and you quit the level. I did that for a bulk of the Koopa Troop (I'm still missing Bullet Bill.) Better yet for SSBM/B, there's a zillion ways to get the prizes. I spectate once in a while for some, but usually I play with Capsules on and go to Coin Launcher. Coin Launcher's good because it hardly feels like you're doing a mundane grind. It feels like a game. CDs are a pain, though. It's like, I know they're rare, but you're given a second to grab it, and it insists on appearing at the WORST possible moment, for example, once, I was going through Endless Brawl and a CD appeared. It was a bit away at the time and I was playing Sonic, surrounded literally on all sides, midair, meaning I had no available attacks. And one of them was Yoshi. Bastard ate me and by the time I escaped, the CD was gone. Guess my reaction. (Sidenote, I eventually got and even surpassed my Endless quota of 100 with a certain pink musician. Worth more'n people think.)

] You Paid For It, But Can't Have It... YetOh god, why did you make me remember Sonic Mega Collection. I think it was 50 times even. 50 times starting and exiting every bloody game, each with a 10+ seconds loading segment, to be awarded with.. Knuckles in Sonic 2! WOW THANKS SO MUCH. Then do the same with the lame unlockables to finally get the unlocks that are worth a damn (Ristar!). That's one hour of my life I won't get back. As for Brawl: playing the Metal Gear stage 10 times to get Snake was pretty annoying, but atleast was done after 10 quick 1 stock matches. We finally unlocked Sonic just as we were about to call it a day (after 200 minutes of non-stop Brawling ) ..and to answer the thread's original question: No I'll never reset my Brawl data. Too much of a hassle to get everything back. Plus I'd have to go through SSE again and SSE is fucking shit.

No, I don't want to reset any of my data. It took a long time for me to get what I have now, and I don't really wish to repeat that exercise. Kudos to those who wish to do so, but it's not something I'll be doing.

Update on mine: Okay, it's been about 3 weeks since I reset my file, here's how I stand. I have about 100 stickers to collect, all the stages and characters are unlocked (none too hard on that, SSE took less than two days,) and I have about 200 trophies. Logged 8.5 hours worth of multiplayer, so from here on in it's little more than multiplayer to get everything, which is really pretty much trophies and stickers.
