However, Shrikeswind, don't feel the need to name-call and ramble incessently just to try and make a point. It makes you look ridiculous. Not to drag this out further, but where did I name-call?

And so this question gets answered (if one never bothered to read the Japanese post).

I looked at the Japanese version. Google's translation sucks but it seems Sakurai is commenting on how people overseas might not know what this is about.

This week's Pokémon are Trapinch, Vibrava and Flygon. I never cared about the possibility of using an unevolved Trapinch in a battle. It's certainly a frail Pokémon (as much as Delibird), but it could humiliate unprepared Pokémon given the right circumstances. It should be noted that this Pokémon family is of the Bug Egg group even when Bug is not present as a type.

They have no butts. I repeat, antlions HAVE NO BUTTS. I feel sorry for those poor bastards now.

You know, I knew what Trapinch's family was based on, but that was a very interesting read nonetheless. I did not know much about antlions (we never covered 'em in any of my Bio classes, and let's be honest, I was always more interested in vertebrates than the rest of the Kingdom anyways,) so the various facts he covered (such as antlions not having butts, as the Qu so delicately puts it) and the mythos behind it (like the origin on the name antlion) were definitely intriguing.

This week's Pokémon is Jynx... A Pokémon that is said by some authors to live up to its name in the real world. This is probably the most comprehensive essay so far, proportional to the amount of controversy there has been around this Pokémon. Hutcheon mentions a lot of possible inspirations behind Jynx, and now a Christmas episode of the anime makes sense to me. I'd applaud in front of him if I could

Interesting article, especially on the Zwerte Piet bit.
I hope he gets back to Psyduck- there is a surprising amount of evidence it's a Platypus and not a duck.

Sinterklaas and Santaclaus, aka Kerstman (Christmasman ), are considered different characters over here though, but I guess the Pokemon world lacks Elf-mons for Santaclaus to enslave. Also a bunch of years ago white guilt kicked in and they changed the black skin of Zwarte Piet into different colours of the rainbow. Pretty much everybody complained about it and now we have blackfaces dancing on boats every year again.

Weird shit there, 8bit.
I would have to say this was a surprising pick for Mr. Hutcheon. Not a Pokemon I'd have expected.

The Nidorans Exeggcute/ Exeggutor Lickitung Sudowoodo (what was the inspiration for that concept?)

Exeggcute may be based on coconuts. With that in mind, it makes so much more sense.

But... Why psychic? There are so many strange things about Exeggcute.
