Interest . . . in game . . . dramatically riiiiiiiising . . .
Thanks for the details, Leon. This game sounds most awesome.
Does seem a bit odd that each gender has only a selection of jobs to choose from but not the ability to do all of them.
I keep thinking Gabe from Penny Arcade would be very disappointed that he can't be a male Pegasus Knight.

Kinda surprised to see no male myrmidon available.
I'm glad to see IntSys up to something that's actually interesting. It's no new story (which I really want to see), but IntSys isn't lost in their direction.
LOL at the hair selection of mohawk.

Well Fire Emblem has never had male pegasus knights. Ally and enemy, every pegasus knight from the first game onwards was female.
I think the no male myrmidon is to try to keep balance between the classes for male and female units. Males have a lot of exclusive base classes, so they have to give something up to the females.

I wasn't really interested in this at first, but as soon as I heard about the whole 'create-your-own character' feature my interest sky-rocketed.

I'm not sure what the policy for magazine scans is here, so I'll just give you a summary of the important points from Famitsu. There is a new character called Katarina who is an aspiring tactician who travels with your created character. Base conversations from Path of Radiance absolutely return in this game. New scenes with the characters also appear. One screenshot shows Palla and Catria having a conversation, something that doesn't happen in the original. There is also a down loadable episodic campaign that details the background of the characters similar to BS Fire Emblem. The first episode is called Wind and Thunder and details the relationship between Merric and Elleran. www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/vi2j/index.html

The policy is that anything that stretches the board larger than a typical monitor is frowned upon as it makes the topic difficult to read until the next page starts... But feel free to link to any large scans!

New scans from Nintendo Dream have been leaked today. Here you can see partial artwork for Chris (the create a character), Katarina (the tactician), Luke (the green haired cavalier), and Roddy (the last guy). This next scan shows Caeda, Sirius (the masked man), and Mullis (the purple haired woman). What's significant is that Mullis isn't a character who appeared in the original game or a new character, but actually from BS Fire Emblem. Word on the net is that BS Fire Emblem is going to be remade in this game. I gotta say this is shaping up to be the greatest Fire Emblem ever, remake or not.

Guess who is in the game? ...Not really. Just a custom character. That looks really cool.

I've been playing the game and it's incredibly cool. Your party gains items while the game is shut off. Damn, the prologue is incredibly hard in this game. Here are some pics from the prologue and the characters you meet there. My Unit and Katarina The first boss Some mysterious people who hate Marth

Some new info from a translated Iwata Asks.Lots and lots of FE permadeath talk/debate. I'm happy that now there's the option to turn it on or off, but would have been nice to have some more options with it. Eg In the PS3/PSP Valkyria Chronicles games, when a character falls in battle, 3 turns must pass or be captured by an enemy before they die, but if they a revived by a medic or if the battle is won before 3 turns are up, they will live (it's something like that). Also the new "stuff happens when the game is off" feature sounds pretty cool. (Why don't more games have it?) -Maeda feels the perma-death feature from the Fire Emblem series is a defining characteristic - Maeda feels that this feature makes players feel more emotionally attached to the characters - Maeda also feels that this increases tension - Maeda admitted to resetting the game to make sure he didn't lose a character back in his days prior to working on the series - work on this title began when the team was working on Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon - the team feels that Fire Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow is almost a completely new title, even though it is based off of a previous release - making this game accessible to new players was a concern - the idea of making fallen characters return on the next map was tossed around, but many felt this would take away the heart of the Fire Emblem series - debates on this topic lasted many hours, with some starting in the morning and ending at night - past titles had a revival system that was implemented, but yanked right before release - during development of the Super Famicom Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, the original design doc said you could die up to 5 times. This topic quickly became the subject of heated debate - originally, the team thought that character revivals should be tied to difficulty settings, but this was decided against - finally, it was decided that "Classic Mode" or "Casual Mode" settings would let the player allow/disallow character revivals, no matter what the difficulty setting - it took 4 months to debate this issue- even when the game is off, time flows in the game world - your characters will head off on their own in search of items and also build experience - see what types of items your characters have gathered by visiting the pre battle prep screen

I had heard about that. I have no doubt that this game will be released in the west, it is a remake of the best game and IS's favourite game in the series. Talking with your party members changes your appearance temporarily. This is what happens after talking to Wrys.

It did not explicitly state that this latest FE was coming stateside - it merely had a differently translated subtitle and had about a page of info and screens in a Japanese RPG spread that it shared with The Last Story. No confirmation, alas.

Regardless, this is a Fire Emblem game, and Iwata even made a point on how well Shadow Dragon sold in the west. This game will come here sooner or later, I bet February 2011 just before Pokemon.
