Today, Intelligent Systems just announced the remake of Mystery of the Emblem for the twentieth anniversary of the series. www.nintendo.co.jp/fe/Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem ~ Heroes of Light and Shadow This title is significant because with the dialogue in the video it suggests that this game is much more expanded than Shadow Dragon was; "Marth's name as the Hero King who saved the world is known to many But there are few who know "that person"'s name Marth raises his blade in the middle of battle Backed up by other renowned heroes... And "that person"'s figure "That person" and Marth were true friends Marth claimed victories thanks to their support from the shadows History recorded the existence of a Hero of Shadow One of the main characters of the War of Heroes Their name was---" When I look at this, I think that the tactician element from Blazing Sword will be returning, and the game will be longer than its SFC counterpart. No release date was given at this time.

Funny how Marth's side of the story is getting all the attention lately.
You think there'll be remakes of any of the other bygone FE titles?

Well, Marth has been the hero of Fire Emblem that will always rest above the others. No matter what Ike, Roy, or Sigurd may do, Marth will always represent what Fire Emblem is, thus he would have all these remakes.
I think there could be more remakes, I know they had interest in doing Sword of Seals (Roy's game), but I'm 99% sure that an original game will happen before a remake. Keep in mind that this game also serves the purpose of being an anniversary gift for the series.

I'm always down for more Fire Emblem, so this is good news.

I wish I could get into this series, but my Fire Emblem skills (and frustrating completism) mean I rarely get further than the first few stages before giving up trying to keep anyone alive... But still... I won't poopoo a new installment!

People from another forum I go to, Fire Emblem DA, aren't all that thrilled about the new FE. Really, we'll want to see something new rather than remaking something again with another remake done not long ago. Given the tendency to reuse things for IntSys, there's fear that FE12 will reuse the FE11 engine, and, even worse, its lack of character development.

Yeah, I'd agree. The graphic engine didn't really wow me (I didn't care much for the battle animations), and there was a surprising lack of character interaction from what little I've played. I'm hopeful they'll do some heavy tweaking at the very least.

Well Mystery of the Emblem always had more character interaction than Shadow Dragon did in the first place. The original script explains a lot of back story for many of the characters, two of them off the top of my head being Ogma and Hardin. I have complete confidence that the characters will come to life as expected.

The graphics in Shadow Dragon did come across as muddy, which makes me wonder why IntSys is moving in that direction. Advance Wars: Days of Ruin was also dark and muddy...
Fire Emblem has always taken itself seriously, but it's always been set against a green, fantasy backdrop. Famicom/Advance Wars really didn't take itself seriously at any point, but has now gone insanely over-serious.
Hell, even Super Paper Mario was mostly dark and had a quite depressing story. Not to mention depressing gameplay (not the place)...
I hope IntSys pulls their finger out (or takes their medication) and goes back to blue sky thinking. It's what they're best at.

BIG NEWS!!! Release date for Japan is July 15, and... You can create your own character! Name, gender, appearance, initial equipment, and background. A first for the series. www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/vi2j/index.htmlThis is just speculation, but I also think supports are back. There is a picture of Wrys talking with the original character, and Wrys wasn't even featured in that game. What's confirmed is that the palette is lot brighter than the previous game. It looks like the days of Intelligent Systems muddy colours are gone.

Aww, but I want to customize the character's stats and growth rates as well- *shot*
I was so surprised about this feature. I once thought that would be an over-advertised original character that probably does nothing meaningful but steal attention away from the original FE3 line.
New maps is a welcome too. Looks like behind the same ol' FE11 graphics, the game will at least feel new.
I wonder if it is possible to create duplicate of an existing character with this feature. It'll be fun if Marth talks to another Marth.
*looks forward to FE13*

This is pretty awesome news. Hm. Now I'll have to figure out who I want to put into FE...and the colors do look much better, thankfully.

Aww, but I want to customize the character's stats and growth rates as well- *shot* There most likely is some kind of stat customizer included. I imagine it would work like giving a character stats in the Sims. New info. - Four difficulty levels, from Normal to Lunatic - choose difficulty level at the start of your game - 'Casual Mode' where you do not lose allied units permanently if they fall in battle - 'Classic Mode' for a traditional Fire Emblem experience - in-game plot guide for looking up background information on the nations and characters in the story - wifi online shop for purchasing rare items, using in-game currency It's good to see that casual mode added for players that just cant master the gameplay. I hope more people will play this since it's becoming very accessible to players of various skill levels.

Wow. This could wind up being the most appreciated Fire Emblem of the bunch. I'm impressed.

Even more info from a retailers meeting in Japan.
General features
* Wi-Fi options - You can download new maps, battle other players on special multi-player maps, loan characters and communicate with other players. * Guide - A function that lets you learn about character relationships and background information on the game's nations. * Reclassing from Shadow Dragon makes a return. * The prologue, which begins after creating your custom character, doubles as a tutorial.
My Unit customisation
You can set the following:
* Name * Class - Males can choose from Mercenary, Knight, Cavalier, Fighter, Archer or Mage. Females can be a Myrmidon, Pegasus Knight, Cavalier, Archer or Mage. * Appearance - Includes 13 hairstyles, 10 hair colours and 10 types of eyes. There are even Mohawk and Afro hairstyles. You can set eyes to be closed or have eyepatches, and there are also mouth masks. * You can choose your character's past, present and future. * Past: Merchant's child, Cleric's child, Orphan, Farmer's child, Noble's child * Present: Beautiful, Wise, Diverse, Strong * Future: Humanitarian, Truth-seeker, Recluse
I must admit, this is a lot of re-playability never seen in Fire Emblem before. I was always hesitant about adding a create a character, but it seems like IS really thought this through.
