I find it kind of sad when a franchise is thrown on to a game instead of a game being made around a franchise. But I know this happens a lot for Nintendo.
Its the mentality "Let's make a game and then slap some IP on it" as if the IP is nothing more than a paint job.

Done reading. I'm glad to listen to Jun Ishikawa, Hirokazu Ando and the rest of the HAL musicians again. Ishikawa is my favourite musician of all time.
I do personally support the idea of making this a Kirby game, based on two reasons: (1) This game does fit as a Kirby game; (2) Our very, very, very lovely HAL Laboratory killed their project (with a definite release date released) in less than a month before the game did actually come out.
A Kirby game that didn't start as one is better than no Kirby at all.

Its the mentality "Let's make a game and then slap some IP on it" as if the IP is nothing more than a paint job. But that pretty much is the case. I'm kinda of the opposite mindset. I think a game should be made for the game, not the brand. I mean, Mario 64 wouldn't really have been any different a game if Miyamoto had decided to use new characters instead of slapping Mario on it. The only real gameplay conventions it shares with earlier games in the series are the fact that you can move and jump. But slapping Mario on it meant that game sold a lot more than it would've if it'd been a new franchise.

Miyamoto still said something about making a new character after the new Pikmin, so maybe we don't need to get that sad. But I'd like to see some new Nintendo-fellas. This company just is overusing their primary characters, c'mon! Bring us some new people, or revive obscure ones. That'll keep the new games fresh for long time...

I couldn't agree more! Nintendo needs to make new franchises instead of relying on Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and anyone who were playable in Super Smash Bros. LOL Though some of these Smash characters need new games since they didn't have any new games for 10 years or more.

Oh man, just about one week from now... Oh yeah, Pikmin 3 and Miyamoto's new character should be announced by next year's E3, I'm sure. And I do agree, this year was a step in the right direction for most of their other stuff. Occasionally, one may get tired of Mario and Zelda a lot (Skyward Sword's gonna be good, but still). But if another long-deader franchise should come back, it should have a need to demonstrate something worthwhile, kind of in the vain of Kid Icarus Uprising. I couldn't agree more! Nintendo needs to make new franchises instead of relying on Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and anyone who were playable in Super Smash Bros. LOL Though some of these Smash characters need new games since they didn't have any new games for 10 years or more. Boy, you really like turning every one of these types of discussions into something Smash-related, don't you? Come on man, expand your horizons and focus on more than SSB. That's not the only reason all these upcoming games are being made.

Ah, I guess I did. But it's true for them. Nintendo should get more of their games pumping before people only recognize them from Smash Bros. Too late for ol whats-his-name though. If you think about it when it comes to most of their other franchises being left out, it gets extremely depressing in the long run.
That said, to think that this wasn't originally Kirby, do you feel that Nintendo may be afraid of trying more new franchises?

I think that if you're trying something particularly new gameplay-wise, using an established franchise is the safest way to get people to actually try it.
I'd be willing to bet good money that that's the only reason Wario was used in the WarioWare games and DK was used in everything involving the DK Bongos. Would those games have been noticed otherwise?

Would those games have been noticed otherwise? I was first attracted to WarioWare because of 9-Volt's microgame group and not because of Wario. Which I guess still makes you have a point anyway. Those microgames are extracted from classic character-driven games.

(But of course, it was mainly GameFreak's game.) Also, note Sutte Hakkun? He had few arranges of games in Satellaview, mainly because the great gameplay. I kinda doubt about the new SSB coming out. But I have toadmit, some characters in SSB don't still have any new games being made, for example, Ice Climbers. I'll just wish to see new Nintendo franchises soon, or maybe reviving some more... seen that many series consist from one game. Of course I'm not despicing this year's collection, but sometimes when I playing some old stuff, I wonder will I ever see them in any new form. (Applies mostly on Puzzle League...)

I know it didn't even get released here, which annoyed me because I was really looking forward to it. I imagine that would've been different if it starred Pokémon characters. I don't even know what Sutte Hakkun is, which I think proves my point even further. It sounds like it was never released outside of Japan, anyway.
