I couldn't agree more! Nintendo needs to make new franchises instead of relying on Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and anyone who were playable in Super Smash Bros. You know what, you're right. They totally should come up with new IP, you know, like Fossil Fighters, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Elite Beat Agents, Another Code, Band Brothers, Rhythm Heaven, Kyle Hyde, Xenoblade, The Last Story, Endless Ocean, Captain Rainbow.... Or maybe they should revive some little-known franchises like Magical Vacation, Golden Sun, Starfy, Glory of Heracles, Punch-Out, Sin & Punishment, Excitebike, X... But Nintendo hasn't released anything but Mario, Zelda and Pokemon for years! Shame on them!

So basically, Tsukushi-Kun is Parrothead version 2.0 You're a bit right there: but I'm more of enjoying the obscure franchises than researching them. No wonder why games like Axela's StarSweep have becomed my faves: It's little bittersweet to play these "gems" and think that these are still overlooked. But I think the fact they're obscure is what they make them so special. But kinda unexpected to see more guys also agreeing that Nintendo hasn't brought us much varying content of games. I thought we'd just have to get along with them... But there's new Rhythm Heaven coming out for Wii: so I guess I really gotta get along. (Since I see that there's some other games coming along with Mario's and stuff. So Nintendo isn't really just using their primary series...) And... what 256BitHellOnCrack said.

Look sometimes in game development a game will sell better if their is a established character/franchise to go with it. When Nintendo asked Namco to make a bongo drum game(Taiko no Tatsujin franchise) for the GCN, Namco would only do it, if it had a nintendo character attached to it, so DK was used. (Source.)Would anyone here have brought Taiko no Tatsujin GCN? I have to admit when I first saw Kirby's EY, I thought at first that maybe this game would have been better not to star Kirby and just be an original franchise with it's yarn/textile art style. But then I thought that game would get released, sell poorly and then just fade into obscurity. But with Kirby attached to it, the game gets noticed, and will probably sell better. Also even when Nintendo makes new franchises, all the fans will just complain that we haven't received a new Mario/Zelda/whatever in a while and then complain about wanting one nowwwww! And then they reveal a new Zelda on the DS and people complain "I wanted it on the Wiiiiiii" (Like GDC 09 with Spirit Tracks!) Also I'm disaponneted that all of you forgot to mention (Even FRY! * ) the upcoming new Nintendo published game Fling Smash! -Sidescrolling action!! (Huzzah!) -Uses MotionPlus! (You wanted more Wii games to use right?) -Has 2 player co-op (like DKR and Kirby's EY! gasp!) -And will be bundled with a free Wii Remote Plus controller (holy crapola!) * Yes it's developed by Artoon, who made Yoshi's Island DS, which I beilieve are both hated by Fry (and other people on the planet) but since FS is a new franchise with strange/original gameplay concept it won't have to get compared to past games (like how YI DS got comapred to SMW2: YI) because nothing like it has existed before. * But then again maybe I shouldn't blame Fry for not knowing about this game, even the gaming media doesn't seem to know much about the game, and Nintendo didn't even bother to show it off at E3 press conferences. Another long post made by Da Robot that no will read. Or will they? LOOK Kirby Epic Yarn North American television commericial!!!

I know about FlingSmash, I remembered FlingSmash, but because it hasn't actually been released yet I felt it didn't help my (sarcastic) point.
And also because I generally hate Artoon. They're a talentless shovelware developer whose back catalogue was widely classed as "awful" or "horribly broken", and yet they were given free-reign to touch (molest?) one of my most beloved game series... and I frown on such things.
Yoshi's Island DS wasn't as bad as Yoshi's Universal Gravitation, but a lot of what was new to the game was very lazily integrated or broken and very below the high standards in which I hold the original)... It's still the only DS game I've owned which has crashed... because I jumped on a Shy Guy. Woo!

Yeah, I didn't mention FlingSmash because I think it looks like arse. It was one of just three games Nintendo showed us at E3 that I definitely will not be getting.

I can playing Yoshi's Island DS through without taking much time to see the flaws, but the biggest thing what I will never forgive in that game, is the music. Going through a castle which has a some kind of tune played for babies doesn't work, honestly. Flingsmash needs more ricocheting and bouncing, awrgh. I'll get that game!

If any of these new franchises should come about, they'll have to have the need to present themselves adequately and demonstrating something worthwhile, at least gameplay-wise. Going back a bit to Arcadenik's other point: Though some of these Smash characters need new games since they didn't have any new games for 10 years or more. Whoa whoa, slow down there. I wouldn't say over 10 years! Let's see here... F-Zero has been sitting out in the cold for as long as we can remember, nothing much since GX from 2003. Will it have more of a chance of coming back anytime soon? Star Fox hasn't seen another good game in a while. While I personally liked Assault, Command seems to have botched everything up with the series, kinda nullifying the chances of a newer game anytime soon. Pikmin.....Yeah, what is it that's holding the third game back anyway? Ice Climber. Not...gonna...happen. Unless...!Don't worry about Kid Icarus, Pit will soon be delivered from the void of recognition only through Smash, though a few other characters in there still have failed in that. At least until another game of theirs comes around. Just to remember, the SSB series doesn't make all the development decisions. Just throwing that out there.

I have been doodling ideas for an Ice Climber DSiWare sequel myself. While you could potentially use the characters in a Wii game, I think to keep it in the spirit of the original then DSiWare would be a better fit.

I have been doodling ideas for an Ice Climber DSiWare sequel myself. While you could potentially use the characters in a Wii game, I think to keep it in the spirit of the original then DSiWare would be a better fit. ¨ Gee, talking about DSiWare-game ideas: I've also been thinking my own game idea: it would be a Tomato Adventure-esque RPG, but it actually a sequel to For The Frog The Bell Tolls and Link's Awakening at the same time: Prince Richard is costantly trying to gain back his newfound castle's control, after he ran away from his kingdom. (or just somehow got into Koholint Island)
Soon he actually finds out that he's not the real king: the real royal of the castle and whole Koholint Island is Princess Shokora. (Wario Land 4. My theory is that the Golden Pyramid has Dr Arewonstain from FTFTBT, the little professor dude Wario use as projectile in bonus rooms and the place is full of frog-like statues. WL4 had also designer Tomoyoshi Yamane, the character designer who worked on FTFTB as well. Also one thing is that Koholint Island and Shokora are pretty much of "disappearing/was it just a dream?"-things. Are they connected somehow?) Prince Richard thus decides to set off to find this mysterious princess. Sable finds out about his old friend starting a journey, and tries to get after him, but is stumbled on Lip. Lip must be a sucker on cute princes like him, so he develops this "caring and sweet" attitude on him. Sable doesn't like it first, but opens up soon after Lip sees his own clumsy side. Both don't really "love" each other, it's like Team Rocket's Jessie and James-relation ship. (Sharing smiles and tears time to time little comically by hugging and stuff: Yeah, I sound little like a crack-pairing fangirl)Pretty much something I'm SURE that Nintendo would never pull something like this off. This would more into a fanfiction or sumthing. The battle system is like in Tomato Adventure, but now it's a bundle of games based on the character's debut game. (retro stuff ALA 9-Volt) Just to keep us on-topic, here's something: Just wish this hasn't been posted before...

Well the problem with those new IPs is that most of them are one timey things. Those don't say: "This is a new Nintendo franchise" they say: "These are new Nintendo games" Most people don't know they exist and Nintendo doesn't treat them like high tier mostly because Miyamoto Almighty didn't create them.

Yeah, I really wish they'd put the spotlight on some non-Miyamoto franchises for once. I mean, when's the last time we got a new Pokémon game? Or Metroid? Or Kirby?
Wait, what? We've had all of those things since the last Miyamoto-series game? Oh, snap.

Well the problem with those new IPs is that most of them are one timey things. Fossil Fighters, Another Code, Band Brothers, Rhythm Heaven and Kyle Hyde would disagree. All of them got enough of a market to get a sequel. The point was kinda focusing on the fact that Nintendo has pumped us full of new franchises, but no sod bought them. Most people don't know they exist and Nintendo doesn't treat them like high tier mostly because Miyamoto Almighty didn't create them. How can you treat a new series like high tier? Halo and GTA weren't High Tier when they started out. Super Mario Bros. wasn't high tier when it came out... A game isn't high tier until it finds a fanbase. Hell, Pikmin has never been high tier. And I'm sure nobody here has been thrilled by the announcement at Miyamoto's latest opus Nintendogs + Cats.

Well actually when Miyamoto announced Pikmin it got tons of publicity and coverage. The same can't be said about Fossil Fighters.
