Well, that takes the States off my hopefuls. Brazil's my next hope.

SUCK IT ENGLAND
(good thing it ended with 4-1, if it were 2-1 you'd never ever ever hear the end of that dismissed goal)

Yeah... And good point, 8bit... Too bad the goal was dismissed, but if you added it to the end result, 4-2 would still be a loss. I'm now hoping Mexico beats Argentina, although it's very unlikely

Mexico played well, but Argentina was much better. So Argentina will face Germany in the quarter-finals. Watch out, Germany! They might take revenge over last tournament's elimination in quarter-finals (also both teams were in the final match of 1990 when Maradona still played, and Germany won).

I hope Brazil pwns Chile... I'm tired of seeing shit happen in my country every time Chile goes into a match... I mean, Chile lost against Spain, but they still had to take out the Anti-Riot teams? FAIL It's times like these in which I don't acknowledge myself as Chilean... Primitive Bastards... Throwing caution to the wind, I betray both my nation and gender by really really not caring about football at all. In fact, I'm sick of it. It's constant, all the time, on every channel. Every product has football themed packaging. Every shop has a little England flag with "I support England 2010". Every car has damn England flags on. It's a bunch of overpaid tossers with well-coordinated feet. Well done. My thoughts exactly... but at least it moves money. All I'm asking myself is how is everyone going to be able to pay for those 42" TVs they've bought for the World Cup...

I can answer that! They feasted upon a tremendous feast until they were ridiculously overweight, then bought the TV and didn't eat while they paid it off, living off of their blubber.
No, I'm not serious, but no, it wouldn't surprise me.

Awesome. Brazil and Netherlands advance to the quarter-finals! I honestly support Netherlands as I'm not liking the current Brazil team much. I'm also attached to Netherlands because my name is derived from Johan Cruyff's.

This is a little off-topic, and perhaps it belongs in the British Words For the American Guys thread, but it still seems relevant. Here is an interesting little article on why Americans call it "soccer" and everyone else calls it "football." Believe it or not, "soccer" is actually a British term!

Well, I always knew that soccer is short for association football... Well, that takes the States off my hopefuls. Brazil's my next hope. Too bad =P

Well shit, I really didn't expect the Dutch winning from Brazil. Wooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeyy~! I watched the game, hoping to see a good game of soccer and that's what I got. The real irony was after the game was when an ad played with quote "say no to racism" and then the words "friendship," "loyality", and "ubuntu" then flashed on screen afterwards. Then it went back to our NZ broadcaster for the event and host says "Didn't see any of things happen between Brazil and the NL now did ya?" For those who didn't watch the match Brazil and the NL were very aggresive to one another, with a Brazilian player stomping on a NL player, Brazil got a red card and even Brazilian and NL players couldn't even stand against each in free kicks without one of them shoving each other out of the way . . . when they didn't have the ball.
