Here's one I just found out about today - Gumpei Yokoi's departure from Nintendo was not the shaming effects of the VIrtual Boy failure as long thought, but it actuality he retired because he wanted to. See here. Not quite up to the level of Stop n Swap and Luigi being playable in SM64, but still. I believed it.

I don't know if you've heard of this one...
But I heard back in the the first generation of Pokemon, if you showed your Pokédex to one of those Game Freak guys in Celadon City showing them that you've captured all 150 pokemon, you'd get Mew.
Guess what? I did that (back in 2000)! I was so awesome. When I finally got the last one (Kangaskhan, typical), I was happily walking my avatar to those Game Freak Dudes...
"Gimme yo Mew!" I said...
"Congrats! You've collected all 150 pokemon! Take this certificate! You deserve it!" said the Game Freak dude

See here.I figured he wouldn't have left purely because of the Virtual Boy. But then I always thought it was weird that he stuck around after the Virtual Boy flopped for long enough to work on Panel de Pon... It didn't add up. It seems Nintendo were going through a bit of a transitional period at the time. The Virtual Boy was rushed to market, Miyamoto was under pressure to develop his next game like Donkey Kong Country, Nintendo 64 development was underway, ushering in an era of games that Yokoi and co. weren't ready for...

This is a new one, but I absolutely hate people saying that Team Ninja is making the story for Other M.

Huh. I thought it was true, since it was my Nintendo Official Magazine guide that told me it. But I guess it lied to me.

It's pretty evident that Team Ninja DID NOT make the story after watching the translated Interview.
What I hate more, though, is the fans crying that'll ruin Samus as a Character. Screw it [haha], I'm interested in it, and I hate Japanese-y stories...

Huh. I thought it was true, since it was my Nintendo Official Magazine guide that told me it. But I guess it lied to me. Absolutely not. Sakamoto has been a writer at Nintendo for decades, all the Japanese Metroid games since Return of Samus have been written by him. Team Ninja is just the muscle crafting the gameplay and nothing more. Leave it to game "journalists" to fact check their work.

I think he was referring to the Mew thing Leon And that "Official Nintendo Guide" (which I have a copy of somewhere) was made up of information stolen from the internet, including a not insignificant amount from NinDB.

Yeah, I meant the Mew thing. I didn't know Sakamoto was writing Other M, though. That's cool.

IIRC, Stop N Swap was supposed to work with Banjo-Tooie, with the latter being a 64DD game (though it might've worked with DK64, as it was originally a DD game too) This page lists a bunch of gaming myths. Personally, my least favorite is L is Real 2401. It's just a crummy texture that reads Eternal Star.

To be fair, the texture doesn't read anything as far as I know.
Oh, and any gaming myth about Mario 64, Pokemon or Ocarina of Time annoys me. Why? Because people have literally took the game apart to see if they could find anything relevant hidden in the ROM, and stuff like this just flat out doesn't exist. Indeed, I'd have thought after people hacked those games that the rumours would have just stopped instantly.

Screw it [haha], I'm interested in it, and I hate Japanese-y stories... The last part is especially annoying when you find out that the Japanese have the Metroid mangas as cannon- so, in essence, Samus' character is so much more defined over there, and as such, it is harder for them to "ruin" the character. As opposed to us over here, who have Metroid Fusion as our almost only bit of characterization for her. Guess we only have Nintendo to blame for this though.

To be fair, the texture doesn't read anything as far as I know. It reads Eternal Star, although you can't read the smaller text underneath it. It's also sitting under a star. It definitely says "Star", and it pretty certainly says "Eternal" before that.
