...I like Discord already. He seems like a Mr. Mxyzptlk type of villain. I also hear we'll be seeing more of Derpy in the new season. (Though, as a "Where's Waldo/Wally" or "Emmitt Nervend"-type of hidden background character for fans to find. Dunno if we'll actually see her interact with any characters like the comical anvil-dropping incident.)

IT"S FINALLY HERE! SEASON 2 MLP FiM!
EDIT: Not a bad episode, really wish they could have shown part 2 NOW though. Discord is pretty awesome.

What a way to kick off the new season. I'm really really enjoying this episode so far. I can't wait for part 2!
This episode had quite a lot of atmosphere too (well, to me anyway). I especially loved the scene where Princess Celestia was telling the ponies the tale of Discord's chaotic reign. It just had this brooding air of mystique. Discord's omnipresence made this episode all the more magical.

OK, I'm giving this a go. I honestly don't understand why grown men are into this. Yes, it's well animated and the writing is better than most shows aim at girls. But it's still a show about ponies aimed at girls.

I guess it is a bit odd, (even I thought so) but when you get down to it, if a show is good enough, it doesn't really matter what the target audience is. It's really no different then how some girls tend to like boy-ish stuff like "Teenage Mutant Ninja/Hero Turtles," or something.
To quote Lauren Faust, (producer of the show) "I didn't create this show for little girls, I created it for little girls and their parents-including male parents. It should only stand to reason that adult animation fans without children may like it too. The belief that boy's shouldn't be interested in girl things is the main reason there's hardly anything decent for girls in animation-or almost any media, for that matter. It's a backwards, sexist, outdated attitude.
Still, I suppose it is odd that some "Bronies" are getting so into the show they started collecting the toys. That's kinda going overboard. lol

I chalk the insane fanbase to this being 2011 and web two point o creating crazy fanbases with everything. The cartoon really isn't much better than the likes of Dexter's Lab or PPG. The interaction between the animators and crazy fanbase is pretty fun though.
Oh and AJ's paranoid swifty eyes made me laugh.
In other opinionated news, Avatar season 1 is pretty dull. Apparently season 3 is super duper awesome but I don't know if I wanna sit through all those stand alone episodes to get there.

I guess I did like Powerpuff Girls... But that was mainly for one reason... But while that was well-written and funny, it contained a lot of content aimed at appeasing both genders. This is well-written, but contains exclusively content aimed at girls. That's a good thing! It's about time a show like that wasn't an ungodly piece of crap! But it has awoken something in "Bronies" (is that the term?) that I can't help but find a bit creepy... And I just can't grasp what they see in the show if they don't have kids of their own...

Is this... is this just a My Little Pony thread now? It did seem like that was the only cartoon anybody wanted to talk about anyway, I guess...

If you have any more cartoons worth watching, I'm sure the topic will change back

One of the big reasons I like PONIES is the shout-outs- it's one thing to have a little girl show; it's another to have a little girl show that gives shout outs to David Bowie and Stephen Sondheim. But that's just me. Anywho, Young Justice is coming back this Friday with neverbefore seen episodes. Last Friday's episode was leaked by CN months and months ago. Here is a pic from a promo showing what appears to be part of the Light. From left to right: Ra's Al Ghul, Poison Ivy, Black Adam, Wotan, Ultra-Humanite, Atomic Skull, Joker. Wotan is really fucking obscure, only appearing a few times in 70s years. Atomic Skull is a 70s Superman villain who has been revamped a few times. This is an extreme revamp that first appeared in the Free Comic Book Day YJ comic- he looks a lot like Warthog's driver from Twisted Metal II...

Name change was temporary, just to promote season 2. On the topic of MLP, there are female adult fans but they seem to be drowned out (or at least hard to tell/find with internet anonymity) by the male fans. I mean someone (multiple females) have to be writing all that shipping fan fiction and such. In other opinionated news, Avatar season 1 is pretty dull. Apparently season 3 is super duper awesome but I don't know if I wanna sit through all those stand alone episodes to get there. And season 2 . . . ? And fuck yes to YJ finally returning to TV, how long has it been? Like 4-5 months?

I wonder if there's a group of generation 1 fans who are frothing at the mouth because 'We liked ponies BEFORE it became mainstream!!!'
I guess I could just skip to season 2 of Avatar, but I figured a lot of S1 characters would eventually be returning in S3 and, if I heard it right, get their shit ruined. That's the only reason I may still bother slogging through S1 despite that it's about as interesting as that Pokemon cartoon

I can go ahead and tell you, yes, a lot of Gen I fans resent the ANIME!!! styling of the latest cartoon. Which is idiotic since that is just Lauren Faust's style- you can see it in other things she's done, including PPG.
I've got friends who frequent Ponychan, and links to those cesspools of forums come up on occasion. Fun to read if you like reading idiots.
