I honestly can't stand Adventure Time, for the same reason I don't watch Zim anymore: they're both very condescending to their viewer. Really? Zim is effing hilarious. It doesn't make fun of the viewer as much as it makes fun of society (Mr. President-Man!). I've never seen Adventure Time nor do I ever plan to. It looks seriously retarded. No offense, but that's probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Venture Bros. is an intelligent, witty, and overall enjoyable show to watch. The storylines are incredible and the characters are fantastic. How can one scene of someone pissing themselves (which is a joke pretty much EVERY TV show has used) turn you off of a series forever?

It wasn't the gag itself so much as the extent to which they took it. The amount of times they brought it up in conjunction with the escalating revulsion with which the action was described was just repulsing. Also, the bit in the end with the pee seeping out of the suit's top? It's unnecessary to pulp that particular horse carcass that thoroughly.

I don't watch cartoons (any kind of kid cartoons, any kind of adult cartoons, you name it) as much as I used to do before and its mostly because of the same ,or similiar, reasons TVEye, Shrikeswind, kirbychu, Boo Destroyer and TEI has already stated.
The last Cartoon Network show, as well as the last kid cartoon, I watched was Ed, Edd and Eddy. One of my favs and one of the very few decent series CN had IMO. Too bad EE&E had to end with that movie because it sucked ass for various reasons. Anyway, since then I haven't feel like trying finding another decent enough kid cartoon(s) series.
As for adult cartoons, its pretty much only Futurama now, and maybe a tiny bit Simpsons when there is nothing else going on. The last adult cartoon I watched because I truly enjoyed it was the cancelled King of the Hill. Now there was a animated sitcom with jokes much better then whatever shit Simpsons (in its current status ever since it stopped being good) or Family Guy could spit out.
When it comes to movies (whatever it be normal hand-drawn animation, CGI or stop-motion) I really love Finding Nemo, Ratatouille and WALL-E, don't care much about all the other Pixar films so far (except for some of their shorts), there is also Tim Burton's Nighmare before Christmas and Corpse Bride. I also like Coraline and 9 (both the short film and the feature-length adaptation based on it). I have much more fav. movies then all of these but it be too long to list them all.
When it comes to anime series, right now I only bother with One Piece (my no. 1 fav manga), Detective Conan and Fairy Tail (moreso for the animation and Erza then anything else) now and then. Anime movies? I almost always watch the ones from one of the best anime studios ever, Ghibli of course!

I've got friends who say "oh, that's just the show's/Jhonen Vasquez' humor," to which I always respond, "well, it's not very funny." Natch. I don't like Jhonen Vasquez in general, but I did love Zim. Mostly because of the other writers and the actors, though. People keep telling me to read JTHM, but I've seen little bits and it just ain't my thing. Pretty much for the same reasons I dislike everything Tim Burton's ever done.

One Piece (my nr. 1 fav manga) From the old brother-downloads-shitload-of-anime-that-I-watch-too days the One Piece comic is the only one I still bother reading today (cause the anime became a fugly fillerfest). It's just goofy fun, plus the character designs really remind me of the wackier Ghibli characters. Then there's lookalike Fairy Tail I checked recently that reminds me why manga sucks in general. Every 5 pages there's either a panty shot or people talk about the main character's boobs WHO'S UNDERAGE SO IT DOESNT EXCITE THEM HAHAHARGHAGRH

Ah, the sweet topic of animation. I grew up on Cartoon Network, before it became an animation studio. It aired a lot of the classics of animation (and a lot of Hanna Barbara OH *rimshot* ), so I have a fondness for Looney Tunes, the MGM cartoons of old (particularly Tex Avery's shorts), and some of the Hanna Barbara catalog (although I can't think of one at present ). I adore anime, but it has to be a little out of the pack or be stellar at what it does for me to care. I love Studio Ghibli, and have not been disappointed in any of their films I've seen (which is most...beyond Castle in the Sky, which the terrible casting of James FUCKING van der Beek ruined for me, and I'm very upset about it). Princess Mononoke is my favorite fimn ever, for the record. I love Rurouni Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Trigun, Fruits Basket, Wolf’s Rain, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, the original Tenchi Muyo, Code Geass, Ouran High School Host Club, Le Chevalier d’Eon, Serial Experiments Lain, Steamboy, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, Akira (animation moreso than anything else), Tokyo Godfathers, Battle Angel, Paprika, and plenty of others I'm sure I'm forgetting. Yes, I have a couple uber-popular things in my list, but I am not ashamed! I also love the films of Pixar, with Ratatouille standing tall on the list. This film may not hit everyone the same way it hit my wife and I, but this is one of my absolute favorite films of all time, and can quote too much of it. It resonated with us in a way that it's become very special to our memories - it brightens our mood, and makes us smile. WALL-E and Up are two other favorites. Disney is all right by me, at least their older work. Occasionally they do something these days that is decent enough, but I usually stay away. I love their take on Robin Hood, animation blunders and poor budget and all. Sword in the Stone is also a favorite. Hate Spongebob with a fucking passion, as well as any imitators. I was probably too old or something to get it, but I find it incredibly obnoxious and, to be frank, idiotic. No offense meant to anyone who likes it, but that's how I feel about that show. I'll continue on later.

I can tell from your statements you've never actually watched the show, or at least never seen the first season. You know, back before it became a media and merchandising whore.

I did not see the first season. I have seen a couple later episodes (against my will - nephews and all that), and it did not aid my opinion. Could I add that I don't like the animation, nor the character designs, nor the voices, nor the premise? I also dislike it on the grounds you state of it becoming a merch whore in the worst possible way. In short, I hate it, and not much will alter my viewpoint.

Rest assured if you'd seen the show from the beginning like I did your opinion wouldn't so damned hateful.

Yeah, like I said earlier, Spongebob used to be amazing (back before he cried in EVERY SINGLE EPISODE!). I especially love the episode where Sandy is hibernating and repeatedly tries to kill Spongebob and Patrick because she thinks they're Texas outlaws. It's just such a brutal episode, I can't help but laugh when Sandy asks "Which one of you is the real Dirty Dan?" Patrick says he is right after she freakin' scalps him.

Then there's lookalike Fairy Tail I checked recently that reminds me why manga sucks in general. Every 5 pages there's either a panty shot or people talk about the main character's boobs WHO'S UNDERAGE SO IT DOESNT EXCITE THEM HAHAHARGHAGRH Correct, The only reason I bother reading FT a few times now and then is because Hiro's art style being similiar to Oda's is what made me look into it in the first place. Well, that and also because FT was a decent enough choice compared to the pile of dog shit that was Hiro's previous and first manga comic series, Rave Master, or Adventure Groove Rave or whatever the hell you are supposed to call that unreadable garbage manga. I do admit however that I kinda like Erza so that could be another reason but in the end I only bother with FT cuz of the similiar OP art style and to kill time, it has its few good parts but there is simply nothing great or special about FT, nothing at all. As for watching the anime version a few times, thats only for the animation ,and Erza, moreso then anything else. Otherwise its pretty much the same reason here.

I've seen a couple episodes of Phineas and Ferb. It's not bad, but it's very formulaic: Phineas and Ferb come up with something awesome to do for the benefit of somebody else, the sister gets bent out of shape and comes up with hare-brained schemes to get them busted, Perry goes on his secret agent missions against Doctor Doofenshmirtz (I'm probably not spelling that right), then it all wraps up with a "where's perry?" "grr" "oh hi perry!" Props to the show's writers for lampooning the standard-fare in one of the episodes, though, where the sister says it all with an eye-roll before it actually happens. I've been hitting the Nostalgia Critic archives pretty intensely over the past few days, and he's got a couple really awesome videos about animation. Here are some of the highlights: Cartoon All-Stars Drug SpecialPokemon: The MovieTop 11 Naughtiest Moments in AnimaniacsCaptain PlanetTop 11 Hottest Animated WomenTop 11 Disney VillainsSuper Mario Bros. Super ShowNicktoonsFern GullyAdventures of Sonic the Hedgehog/Sonic SatAMGargoylesCaptain N: The Game MasterStar Wars ChristmasAnimaniacs TributeGranted, these aren't all of his animation-related videos, I omitted a few that weren't very noteworthy, but there are some more hidden in his archives. He also does a bunch of familiar non-animated movies, like Super Mario Bros: the Movie. This guy is fucking funny - probably even funnier than the Angry Video Game Nerd, though it's a tough call since I <3 them both pretty hardcore. Check him out.

Actually I've been checking out Nostalgia Critic's videos weekly ever since someone on this very forum linked to his site a good year or two ago. My favorite is still his Tom & Jerry the Movie review. This because I fuckin' loved Tom & Jerry when I was a kid. Hell I still do. Despite having seen every episode atleast 50 times I just HAD to see it when it came on. So when I got Tom & Jerry the Movie on VHS for my birthday I was psyched. A Tom & Jerry movie?! HELL YES!! ...45 minutes later I just walked away from the TV set. Movie was boring and frankly pissed me off for being so dull. It was nothing like the slapstick shorts. Listening to Doug ripping it to shreds after all those years is so damn satisfying. Speaking of movies, another one I can't wait to see is The Illusionist. Written and animated by the same people who made Triplets of Belleville, which I liked. Looks very atmospheric
