Might as well have its own thread - we'll be chatting a fair amount about it.
I hope it includes more than the four NES games - Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Mario 64, and some other misc. Mario love from sports, kart and RPG excursions would be pretty nice. I know one Super NES cartridge could hold 5 of these games, so certainly a Wii disc could pack in a fair amount more!

You are getting my hopes up here! The very idea of all five Mario games in Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World getting redone with New Super Mario Bros. Wii graphics just get me excited! It would also be awesome if they included Super Mario 64 and update its graphics to Super Mario Galaxy 2's. I wouldn't be surprised if they called it New Super Mario All-Stars.

Maybe not Super Mario World... (-ll-; ) (3DS Mario World)
New Super Mario Allstars FTW- It really fits for that game.
Wish they'd like make a new Mario-game inside that game as a bonus. (-lwl-)

I wouldn't get too ahead of yourself - no one has stated a graphical overhaul was in the works here. It'd be nice, but I kind of doubt Nintendo would put that much effort into this.

Yeah, I know... but since these games are already available on the Virtual Console, why would Nintendo release them all on one game disc with the NES and SNES (and maybe N64 if Super Mario 64 is included as well) graphics intact? I also thought that it would be cool if Nintendo actually took the time and effort to give these games the graphics and possibly the multiplayer co-op based on New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

If these rumors are to be believed. (these rumors came before this was officialy confirmed by the way) - revival of Super Mario All-Stars - may be a direct port which includes the same titles as Super Mario All-Stars - includes "Super Mario History 1985 - 2010" bonus item - bonus item booklet recaps 25 years of Mario history, showing previously unseen development materials - soundtrack CD with music from Super Mario Bros. through Super Mario Galaxy 2 - for Wii - limited availability in Japan, only in 2010 www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=134961Very dissapointing and waste of time if its just 100% direct ports and nothing more. I already have the original Super Mario All-Stars and I doubt all the bonus stuff and whatnot will be worth it. But I wait for footage of this to see if there is any truth in the rumors.

I don't really like the "limited availability" part. To me, it implies that there is a limited number of copies of this game or it is available for a limited time or both. I still have the original copies of Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars since 1991 and 1993 and they are still functioning just fine but I would love to see how they would turn out with New Super Mario Bros. Wii graphics, controls, and multiplayer co-op modes.

I'm betting it'll end up having New Play Control mechanics. They might end up throwing in Super Mario Sunshine as well, seeing as how other Gamecube games were redone for the Wii.

Um.... people? This is a 2500-yen title. It's pretty obvious that it's going to be nothing more than Virtual Console... on a disc.
This item is for collection purpose rather than being sold as a full-fledged game. And BD is actually pretty late in posting this news. I was a few hours ahead of him, in the game announcement thread.

You know what? I think you might be right that it might be just Virtual Console on a game disc. I mean, the price says it all.
Super Mario Bros. - $5 Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels - $5 Super Mario Bros. 2 - $5 Super Mario Bros. 3 - $5 Super Mario World - $8
It is a total of $28, quite close to the $30 price tag. It may be nothing more than a direct port of Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World but with the history booklet and the soundtrack CD included. *sigh*

If that's the case, then: A) That sucks. B) At least it means I could still try and get hired to head up a 30th anniversary remake project ;D I would at least hope they'd give us the extra features from other ports (such as Ace Coins in SMB2, or the extra e-Reader levels from SMB3). But again, I doubt it

Awww.. that sucks. I was hoping Nintendo would update these 4-5 games with NSMBWii graphics and controls. Maybe for the 30th anniversary...

Well, in this promotional poster ( not really a boxart), it calls the Super Mario Collection port a "Wii software" which seems to suggest that the game would be "ported" to Wii rather than being a simple VC game. Still, VC or not, this doesn't seem to make a difference to the user. Maybe it adds in some proper 16:9 screen ratio support (which VC absolutely fails at)... Expect some official info sooner or later. This would be one more of my exceptions on buying remakes, although the item I truly want is the booklet rather than the game itself. 30th anniversary? Well, remember what Nintendo did for the 20th anniversary? Game Boy Micro, re-release of Famicom Mini SMB1, Dr Mario & Puzzle League, and Mario Power Tennis on the GBA. I think those software are some of the worst things I've seen to be mentioned with an SMB anniversary (GBM is fine). MPT is the worst of the four Camelot games on the GBA - doesn't even have their trademark pseudo-3D graphics and connectivity to other games (lacking of Mario characters to play as, generally worse storyline compared to Mario Golf and Golden Sun, blah blah blah). This game is what led me to get worried about Camelot for a while. And similarly, Dr Mario & Puzzle League isn't good, especially when compared to the Japan-only Nintendo Puzzle Collection, which is basically a superset of it. And I am never supportive of Nintendo trying to emulate their own system, which is far worse than using those emulators you can download to play ROMs. At least we get multiple SMB1-related items in a package this time.
