Hmm... so this collection is nothing more than direct ports with few altered sprites? I am starting to think I might not pick up this collection. It all seems pointless to me now and it is not good for my wallet. I already have Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES. That's why I didn't get any of the Virtual Console games. I can already picture the 50th anniversary collection with ? Blocks being replaced with 50 Blocks instead of 25 Blocks.

No, the collection is SNES Super Mario All-Stars. The original SMB with the altered ? blocks is just included on the red Wii.

Didn't know where else to post this and since this thread is related to Mario's 25th anniversary I figured I could post it here. Coming from Famitsu's Mario 25th Anniversary interview with Miyamoto. gonintendo.com/wp-content/photos/71616_m2_122_543lo.jpggonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=139811- Super Mario Bros. controls: "During much of development, the controls were A for shoot bullets (Bowser comes breathing fire and Mario just pulls out a gun, ha ha), B to dash, and up on the control pad to jump. The bullets wound up becoming fireballs later -- we originally thought about having a shoot-'em-up stage where Mario jumps on a cloud and shoots at enemies, but we dropped it because we wanted to focus on jumping action. The sky-based bonus stages are the remnants of that idea, you could say. The fact that SMB nearly had a Shoot 'em Up stage was news to me, sounds interesting. Although Yokoi kinda went for it in Super Mario Land if I remember it correctly right? Also, Miyamoto says the Minus World is kind of a feature. What about the famed Minus World? "That's a bug, yes, but it's not like it crashes the game, so it's really kind of a feature, too!" Heh.

Looks like Australia's getting Super Mario All-Stars in some form, as the OFLC rated it. No clue if it's a disc or for the Virtual Console, but I'd wager a physical disc at this point.

We know about how SMB almost got bullets and a shoot'em up stage, here are few more details on the original build of the game. gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=140281- game described as featuring large Mario characters and using the "athletic part" of "Junior Mario Bros" - plans of making Mario bigger, scrolling, and gimmicks like lifts - original control plans:
Left: Walk Left Right: Walk Right Up: Jump Down: TBA (Duck) B: Run (Accelerate) (Rocket->Shoot) A: Attack (Depending on Item) (Bare Hands->Kick; Rifle; Beam Gun) Left and Right would make Mario walk at two different speeds
- jump height was dependent on the length of time of the button press and the speed of left/right movement at the time - "Rocket" is related to B for movement while in the air - the rocket item could make Mario accelerate left or right in the air by pressing B - A was for item usage or combatBoy, am I glad they changed it. This is interesting but it just seems a bit too weird and complicated.

In fact, it sounds an awful lot like the controls for Wario Land...
I have to wonder... when they say "Junior Mario Bros.", are they referring to the Mario Bros. arcade?

Nothing new. Just another thing related to the 25th anniversary. Super Mario Flipnotes Vol. 1 First one, 0:17 to 0:36. lol. Really funny. Second one, 0:49 to 1:11. Awesome! Really well done, loved the style and animation. Third one, 1:21 to 1:43. What the...? Fourth one, 1:54 to 2:11. Cute but maybe a little too dumb.

Gee, so that's how SMB was meant to be? Gee, sounds kinda awkward from the shoot-em up thing, which of course was used in SML.
Peach is just SO UNPREDICTABLE. (-l_l;- ) When fans get to use her...

Confirmed for North America! Includes the sounctrack and booklet alongside the original rev of Super Mario All-Stars, can be yours in December for $29.99. A little high in my opinion, but I don't plan on buying it, so...
