About time to split this off into its own thread, I say. GoNintendo's got some new details, some of which may make certain writers around here ecstatic. There's a clip at the source, too.

Hmm... I am kinda surprised no one replied to this topic yet. But anyway, Mega Man Legends 3 for 3DS, huh? That's great! It is a shame Mega Man 64 for Virtual Console is unlikely. I played it only once on the N64 when I rented it for a few days many years ago. I didn't really get anywhere, though.

The Legends 3 protagonist has been decided upon! Shinsuke Komaki's design won first place by over 3,000 votes. Here's a clearer picture, since the one on that web page is smushed: While Komaki's design wasn't the one I'd wanted personally (I was hoping for Suetsugu or Ishikawa's), it's still pretty good and doesn't make me feel like a pedophile just because I laid eyes on it. (Yoshikawa and Itou, I'm looking at you.) But in more depressing news, Keiji Inafune has chosen to leave Capcom. I mean...holy shit. The guy's had his hands in almost everything the company has made. From Joystiq: According to Andriasang's summary and translation of his blog post announcing the departure, Inafune declared he had no more "stairs" to climb within Capcom. "It would probably be good for me to sit gracefully in this seat and become a leading figure in the industry," he wrote. "However, I cannot do this. Settling down means death for a creator. As long as you are a creator, you cannot settle down." Inafune has been particularly unsettled lately, making frequent, harsh criticisms of the Japanese game industry, and (in what seemed like a frustrated joke at the time) declaring that he hated his job. It's a sad day, my friends. Hopefully, Inafune will move on to create something spectacular elsewhere.

I like Nakayama's 4th place design because it kinda reminds me of Mew from Jet Grind Radio. It is a little flamboyant, tho. TEi, I first saw your post about Inafune over at LVLs., and the first thing I thought was "Inafune died?! Oh, he only left Capcom." It's a little odd that he would leave now, considering he's wanted to make Legends 3 for so long. At the same, with recent comments about how much he hates his job, it's not entirely surprising. I hope Inafune starts up his own studio, like so many other Japanese producer/directors have done.

Too bad the Sensei Haruki design (the one in 2nd place) was IMO the only good/decent one of all those designs. I voted for that one, oh well.
I was never shocked at Inafune leaving, was pretty much expecting it somehow, except for the fact that he already leaves this early in the middle of making MML3, the one game he been waiting for 10 years to make. Weird. This must be for sad for many MegaMan fans, I'am not one of them though, never played any MM game series execpt for Legends (which was good but not that great for me). Still I feel a little sorry for them. Doubt this will change anything on the Street Fighter games though, what role exactly did Inafune even have in the series? I always been confused on that.
I wonder if Inafune left because his own design in that contest above came in last place, lol. But seriously though, I wish him good luck.

His first assignment as graphic designer was for the first Street Fighter (1987). This webpage at Jap-Sai has three art galleries that can be clicked to show full-sized versions, but most likely Keiji Inafune did Art Gallery 2: www.jap-sai.com/Games/Street_Fighter/Street_Fighter.htm

The protagonist for MML3 now has a name...well, one of two names, since Joystiq and the Capcom Devroom are reporting two different ones (Aero from the former, Sephira from the latter). Capcom has also modified the design somewhat to make it more appropriate for the Legends world, but the differences are mostly aesthetic. She now possesses shorter hair, different leggings and puffier shorts. Capcom plans to unveil the character's model in December. Links of interest: Joystiq.com's articleDevroom postFull-sized image of the adjusted character designThe Devroom has also released this (censored) personality/trait sheet for Aero/Sephira written by Shinsuke Komaki himself. I'm not completely sold on these traits, as they sound a little Mary Sue-ish, but I'm sure they'll be improved the further into development the game is. Unfortunately there's no high-resolution version of this list, but it's not unreadable.

The Dev blog's got another poll up, this time it's for the design of the Blue Man himself. B feels like the obvious choice to me. Seems like a natural evolution for his look. A's way too dark, and C's way too human. And way too crotchless.

Well, I don't have nostalgia for A or B, so no underwear FTW! ;D
Actually, why couldn't they just include all three as alternate costumes? They all look pretty similar anyway.

Ummmmm . . . Bad news . . . MML3 officially cancelled.Official statment as follows. We'd like to thank you for your ongoing loyal support of Mega Man Legends 3. Today, however, we must regrettably announce the discontinuation of this project.
From the outset the MML3 Project was intended to give gamers across the world insight and input into the development process. Part of this process includes an assessment of whether the title will go into full production, and is based on a number of criteria with input from different sectors of the company.
Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game. Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely.
We can only express our deepest apologies to all of you who have lent us your unending support, including participation in the Mega Man Legends 3 Developer Room. On behalf of the entire Legends team, please accept our sincere apology for failing to meet the expectations of the fans.
We thank you all so much for your extended support of this title and this community, and we hope that you will continue to support the Mega Man franchise as well as other Capcom games.Well this sucks, MML3 looked like a damn good game. I haven't played any MM games (out of it's massive series) but this really, really sounded like it could be a good 3DS killer app.

And after all the work they did on it.
That's one less reason for me to buy a 3DS.

Saw this earlier today, can't say I didn't expect this myself. Sad to see the flower get nipped at the bud, but life goes on.
I bet they'll take it up in the future, though. You don't just abandon projects and forget them.

Actually, I wonder if it has anything to do with sluggish 3DS sales. Sega recently delayed Crush because of the slow adoption rate. Capcom may have decided that MML3 was too risky of a project for a system that they expected to have a larger install base than it does. And of course, that may be the beginning of a vicious cycle where sales stay sluggish because publishers aren't releasing enuff quality titles.
