Kirbychu's right- SSB actually got me into Nintendo very well in the first place. Of course I knew folks like Mario, Pikachu, DK Link, heck, even Captain Falcon. (I owned F-Zero X) But rest were kind unfamiliar, especially Kirby.
Besides, it's not like Nintendo's been ruined by Smash Bros- maybe you're looking too much to it's negative sides? I don't think any other company's doing better in their own crossover series and some fans go saying that game has corrupted the fandom. Don't much think Nintendo's same. (-lvl-); These days they're now trying to hold on their mainstream games to ensure their keeping on business, so they can ensure making maybe more unique games, maybe some for the other series.
SSB's quite famous and seemingly is shown as "Nintendo's and their fans' Mirror", but don't sweat that bad on all Smashtards around the net- I've found real Nintendo-fans than Smashtards- makes me think it was no wonder that I knew about that term in the first place. There's many things I wish Smash would fix and add, but I better be patient...

I bought Smash Bros. because of Mario, DK, Yoshi, Kirby and Pikachu. I knew who Link and Fox were, but only because I had very briefly played StarFox 64 and had been given a copy of Link's Awakening. I had never heard or Metroid, F-Zero or EarthBound. But because of Smash Bros., I went out and bought StarFox 64, Ocarina of Time and F-Zero X. I tracked down all the NES, SNES and Game Boy games featuring those characters on emulators, and I played through them all because I wanted to know the history behind these characters I'd never heard of. I expect there are plenty of people out there who did the same. I can't see how SSB could have possibly been bad for the fandom.

Sakurai has a sword policy? While I think the likes of Barbera and Goroh are more fitting for ATs, if frigg'n Charizard can be turned from summon to playable then any of those ATs can. Playable Orange Star Army for SSB4! What? Why Goroh? He's the next logical choice for a playable F-Zero character.

He'd have to be the next most important F-Zero character in the F-Zero universe, for sure, but so many other characters could ptoentially be more interesting than him as playable characters in Smash. I know Boo Destroyer would crap his pants with rage at the thought, but I would love to see a random F-Zero character with an interesting design just given a cool new moveset just for the hell of it just like Captain Falcon did. There's a lot of cool looking characters in F-Zero, I wouldn't want them to feel restricted to a fat samurai just for the sake of representing the series most 'fairly'.

Hey buddy, I know Fry gives you a pass on damn near everything, but... Say Underwear Queen, Fry once told me not to be a dick, maybe the same could be said for you once in a while. But wait, I thought it was "controversial" to say this here?

Going off what Underwear just said, I always thought Pico would be the next best character to have after Goroh. The holding thing holding him back was the ol' "no realistic guns" policy.

I don't see any reason Pico couldn't use laser guns. It had never occurred to me that Pico wouldn't use laser guns.

Pico would be badass. His nature would be awesome to see finally live.

BTW guys, one guy was interested on seeing Demille in SSB4. Here's what he made for him as a moveset, using his all gimmics (I tweaked the moveset though at some parts)
Demille
A-A-A - Karate Dog - Demille imitates the Karate Dog Gimmick. He punches once then does a heel-drop kick.
Forward Tilt - Shell Glove- Demille equips Shell Glove and hits with a forward punch while an electric power comes out as a ball (similar to Lucas's Dash Attack)
Up Tilt - Dragon Fists - Demille equips the Dragon Fists Gimmick and does two uppercut punches upwards
Down Tilt - Rolling Rice Ball - Demille takes out the rock which is chiseled into shape of a rice ball, and rolls it away while crouching, his hand is the sweetspot of the attack.
Forward Smash - Noisy Face - Demille holds his Noisy Face Gimmick overhead and begins charging. When the button is released he swings it forwards, causing the head to extend on a string and slam into the ground.
Up Smash - Pyramid - Demille places his Pyramid Gimmick on his head and begins meditating. When the button is released mystical energy bombards the area around him, knocking opponents upwards.
Down Smash - Paper Crane - Demille bows down, while the Origami Crane (Guy?) releases the magic power, while cherry tree leaces circle around him and Demille.
Neutral Aerial - Tanooki Tail - Demille spins while hitting the tail at the opponents.
Forward Aerial - CatScratch - Demile imitates the CatScratch Gimmick by scratching forwards with huge claws.
Back Aerial - Dragon Breath - a small dragon appears behind Demille (seemingly worn as a backpack) and spews a fireball at Demille's opponent behind him.
Up Aerial - Angry Volcano - Demille holds up the Angry Volcano Gimmick and it spews a plume of lava upwards.
Down Aerial - Banana Snowboard - Demille jumps on the banana-shaped snowboard and slams on characters, flipping up. He might also skid little distance when touching the ground.
Grab - Chomper - Acts as a tether grab and recovery, but is actually very fast.
B - Gear Yoyo - Demille pulls out his Gear Yoyo and swings it backwards, where it sits on the ground spinning. When you press B again it launches forward. With pefect timing it hits twice.
Side B - Recoil Glove - Sends a glove toward an opponent, while it returns from the opposite direction of whichever direction it was shot at. It's a bit faster than Samus's Missile. (Guess where I took this from...)
Up B - Rocket Board - Demille jumps into the air with his Rocket Board and flys up into the air. The board can only ascend for a short period of time before it begins descending.
Down B - Magnehand - This is a chargaeble attack. Demille equips his Magneglove Gimmick and absorbs scrap metal, then shoots a hunk of scrap forward. the more longer you charged, the more stuff and knockback it will have when it hits your foe. It becomes more heavy, though.
Final Smash - Patharan's Song
(In Order to help Aretha get in Smash and keep her extreme attack as her final smash)
Patharan's silhouette (or similar to Palutena's appearance in Pit's Final Smash) appears and starts to sing the song- she takes also an area which iss about half of Final Destination. The ones touching her pink area will get caught at her song, rendered dizzy. The song then causes a mysterious lighting bolt to strike DeMille- which renders him lightning fast.
So fast that the enemies caught on Patharan's area have frozen at their places totally. (Meaning now Demille's faster than light?)
Now Demille can hit the frozen enemies as much as he likes for 7 seconds, while they're take the all knockback after the Final Smash has ended.
Big courtesy for Aether_Ech0s for doing this, with me modifying it a bit.

^ Nice moveset
The question is does every single franchise (that doesn't really have much in the way of major characters like F-Zero) in Smash really need more than 1 playable character?

Well....no. Not really. Especially when the core cast of characters from a given series tend to be really samey, such as in the case of Star Fox. I always felt Fox was all you really needed to represent there.
Same with Earthbound and Fire Emblem. Ike and Lucas could probably stand to be dropped, even though both series have die-hard fans that would object.
To be honest I never really liked the idea of taking a game with a story like MOTHER 3 and putting its characters in a chaotic and fun crossover fighter like Smash Bros. Earthbound is at least more whimsical than deep, so it makes sense for Ness. Lucas, less so.
(...and despite what some people say, Metal Gear Solid is wacky and meta enough for Snake to be there.)

I've always felt that Falco was unnecessary, being on the same page as Peppy and Slippy.
Should have had Wolf in Melee instead, and just left it at that for Star Fox.

Wouldn't miss Falco (or Wolf) much if they were removed with their clone-ish status. Another problem with Falco is that it (puts a foot in the door) for people wanting Slippy and/or Krystal and/or Peppy.
I'm surprised more Fire Emblem characters didn't make it in, there's so many potential characters to choose from (definetly enough for a FE only fighting game). Even a clone-ish character could work.
(I hate clones like the ones in Melee, but the Brawl ones were a major improvement over them, but still not perfect).
In terms of Assist Trophies, maybe there's some way they could evolve the concept of it, maybe more interactivity/control over what, when and where and how they attack.

Same with Earthbound and Fire Emblem. Ike and Lucas could probably stand to be dropped, even though both series have die-hard fans that would object. While I do concur that Ike's chances of not being in SSB4 are quite possible, due to no longer being relevant, the same could be said for the Pokemon Trainer's current pokemon and the character model for the trainer. And as we all know, Charizard is probably one of the most popular pokemon, I hardly see that happening. But then again, Mewtwo is also there in the Realm of the Popular, and yet he still got the boot (other than his trophy, I remember reading somewhere that there's a "Congratulations" image for Mewtwo in the SSBB disc, but I cannot prove that myself as of now). There's also the fact that Jigglypuff and Sheik are in Brawl also dispute the whole "too old, no longer relevant" theory. Jigglypuff's inclusion in SSB64 has always been, at least in my opinion, due to her popularity in the Pokémon Anime and her popularity in Japan. Sheik came out as a fan favorite in Melee due to her high-tier (and don't bring the Waaambulance here just because you all hiss at the idea of tiers in your beloved SSB, it's much easier to beat someone with Metaknight or Snake than with Capt. Falcon or Ganondorf) status in competitions. Neither were relevant years after Melee, as Sheik is only in OoT and Jigglypuff was no longer included in the anime. Also, Ness could have been replaced by Lucas entirely in Brawl, as it was originally intended to be so in Melee (ok, so it was because of the cancelled Earthbound 64, but Mother 3 still came out in Japan), but Ness is still around, as he's the main character from the cult classic Earthbound. tl;dr I'm saying you can't really say if one character is going to stay or be replaced by a newer character. And on the topic of more characters from the same game series, some games have possibilities like Metroid's Zero Suit Samus, Anthony Higgs and Dark Samus, some are overflowing with contenders like Pokemon and Mario, while others suffer from lack of characters, like Pikmin, unless if you go ahead and make Louie a (semi)clone character of Olimar. Either way, I wonder what characters that are going to stay get a moveset overhaul. Kirby: Return to Dream Land (or whatever it's called, idr) could bring along new toys/ for Metaknight and King Dedede and possibly Kirby (Whip Grab?). Kid Icarus: Uprising gives Pit a plethora of new weapons, Pit might use them to replace certain moves, like his Side B, his Tilts or his Aerial attacks. Olimar might get new Pikmin in Pikmin 3, Lucas could get some moves from Kumatora or his own instead of SSB Ness (like PK Ground, PSI Counter, Paralysis α and even PK Love) and Link's tools could get a Skyward Sword Treatment, just as SSBB Link's Boomerang and Hookshot were revamped a la Twilight Princess (bomb bowling, anyone?). Anyway, that's what I've thought about the topic at hand. I guess so much accumulated because I was always trying to make a worthwhile post here, but never got around to making a topic or mentioning something... well, worthwhile. Or I was just Lazy. Yeah, let's leave it at that, enjoy the Wall o' Text.

Normally I wouldn't care about F-Zero getting another character, but goddammit if Mother gets two so should F-Zero! It's only fair.
The number of characters (to me) says the worth of the series. It says this series is of greater value than that one and therefor needs more characters. Brawl was telling me that Mother is more important than F-Zero and I felt that wasn't right.

I'd much sooner they took Wolf out than Falco. Wolf's in, what? Three games? Falco's part of the core cast, appearing in every game in the series. He's also the fan favourite of the permanent StarFox team. Plus Wolf and Fox look so dang similar. They could easily just give Fox a costume that makes his fur grey and call it Wolf. When the characters are as small as they tend to be on-screen during a fight, you won't be able to tell the difference. The number of characters (to me) says the worth of the series. It says this series is of greater value than that one and therefor needs more characters. Brawl was telling me that Mother is more important than F-Zero and I felt that wasn't right. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeell... To the Japanese audience, I think that probably is the case. F-Zero's sales are absolutely terrible in Japan, unfortunately. They made an attempt to boost its popularity with the anime, but it didn't work. Mother, on the other hand... well, just go to any Mother fansite and check out the insane amount of merchandise the series has in Japan.
