@ Horsetail: I just figured if Sakurai based Captain Falcon on Kamen Rider and other tokusatsu heroes, it would make sense to base Lip on magical girls. That's sounds interesting. (-lvl-) I wonder about the results. Magical girls and similar are quite popular these days in japan (especially in shooters) so I'm interested how Lip would come out in that light. One thing though, I wonder if is it still just for Smash Bros to representat e Puzzle League's in the way like Animal Crossing or Electroplankton- pretty much getting just a stage in the next installments with songs related to it and items and maybe trophies, but just no playable character? Considering how Lip's been (sadly enough) faceless to the rest of the world... (-l-l-)

At the risk of going off-topic, I'm actually kinds surprised Nintendo never made a shoot-em-up or an RPG or something with the Panel de Pon girls. Lip is practically their equivalent of Arle.

True that- I think it's still because what kind of treatment Lip's got now these days. It would be interesting though. Arle though has been quite popular and long-living herself, since she debuted in Madou Monogatari and was Compile's mascot before the company went bankrupt.

Okay, after this whole Lip-discussion, thought of bringing this new interview Now-Gamer had with Sakurai. NG: You’ve been working on Kid Icarus: Uprising for some time now. How happy are you with the way development is progressing, and why did you go against expectation and add a multiplayer mode? MS: We are struggling with the development progress. But despite that, we are managing to add more and more to the game. Everyone is sure to find many aspects of the game they would enjoy. This project, from the beginning, was also a project to test the capabilities of Nintendo 3DS. Therefore, we needed to include multiplayer modes from the start. NG: You’re developing a new version of Smash Bros. for Wii U. How do you intend to take advantage of the console’s unique controller? MS: I will think about this once Kid Icarus is complete. But as it is a game of a competitive nature, I do not think that any one person should have an advantage. NG: Smash Bros. Brawl was a complete experience. What can any sequel offer in addition to that game? MS: There are many things that can be improved upon even in Brawl. Also, I think you can base your expectations of the new Smash Bros. once you see how well-made Kid Icarus is. The director of each game is the same, but because I regularly change my team around after projects, we will be able to see how good the team is then. NG: There can’t be many high-profile Nintendo characters left to add to Smash Bros. Who’s left that you’d like to include? MS: That is completely undecided, but it is true that Nintendo has not created many new characters lately. Source: www.nowgamer.com/features/1000225/wii_u_uncovered.html(The link includes many other stuff telling information about Wii U) Looks like it was unnecessary to ask about SSB4-details since Sakurai's still not been developing it yet. Tsk tsk. Sakurai's still working hard on Uprising, though. (-lvl-) Wish all the effort won't die down by SSB4-hype and everything. (Laughed for the reply of "SSB-fans better try KI Uprising to see how is SSB4-like so he can maybe get more sales to the game and let them more of his own personal work opposed to Smash) One thing that makes me wonder: while Sakurai's not even been thinking about the roster, that few last sentences sounds like he could maybe consider some characters that couldn't make it last time or were reduced to assist trophies, etc. What you think of this guys? (-'-'-)

Is that a 'tsk tsk' because he won't talk about it, or a 'tsk tsk' because it's a shame people are pestering him about it because he's busy?

One thing that makes me wonder: while Sakurai's not even been thinking about the roster, that few last sentences sounds like he could maybe consider some characters that couldn't make it last time or were reduced to assist trophies, etc. What you think of this guys? (-'-'-) This is simultaneously the most absurd AND the most obvious sentence ever. Logic would dictate that if you want to put any new playable characters in Smash Bros at all you - which you surely do - would need to consider characters that weren't playable before, whether they were previously in the game as assists or trophies or just not at all. Duh. That is fact. Its not even worth saying, its that obvious. But at the same time, nothing there suggests that Sakurai has considered anything more than a passing thought about Smash Bros. Perhaps he has. Perhaps he hasn't. I would suggest he hasn't spent much time thinking about it at all, since he's too busy working on Uprising, and it would seem Iwata again just threw the idea of a Smash Bros on to him without his input since they had nothing to show fanboys and know that just the name 'Smash Bros' gains hype. But even if he has sat there and started to work out what he wants to do with it, nothing in that article suggests this. Saying that it does is a huge leap based on no logic whatsoever. I'm so confused.

There is actually a member on another forum who strongly believes that Assist Trophies have no chance of becoming playable.
He thinks Sakurai chose specific characters that he thought could NEVER be playable, and made them ATs instead.
Many argued that this isn't necessarily true but he's a cynical bastard.

I noticed that a lot of Assist Trophies were potentially playable, but because they all fought with swords they were put back to Assists as there's already a shit-ton of sword fighters.
I think Sakurai may just need to revise his sword policy, as he's going to have trouble otherwise...

Can't have much more members as "Swordmen", eh? One was a clone... one was broken... one was almost broken...
Maybe the last ones we might ask are Takamaru and Isaac... (-ö-ö-)

Sakurai has a sword policy?
While I think the likes of Barbera and Goroh are more fitting for ATs, if frigg'n Charizard can be turned from summon to playable then any of those ATs can.
Playable Orange Star Army for SSB4!

Say Underwear Queen, Fry once told me not to be a dick, maybe the same could be said for you once in a while. This is the part where Fry/Kirbychu/TV Eye/Tei/Spud/8bitretroshit/The Qu/Savage Adam let loose with their "And by once in a while you mean never waaaaaaaaaaah!" histrionics. Either that or "The reason we tell YOU that and NOT HIM is because YOU SUCK AND HE DOESN'T!"Or maybe just more of their "It's okay if he does it because fuck you" white-knighting tactics. ...But seriously, good to see that someone else here isn't a blind free pass-giving, victim card-playing DiU apologist. Not so awesome and hilarious when it's on his end, now is it? I would suggest he hasn't spent much time thinking about it at all, since he's too busy working on Uprising, and it would seem Iwata again just threw the idea of a Smash Bros on to him without his input since they had nothing to show fanboys and know that just the name 'Smash Bros' gains hype. Yeah, you can definitely tell that Iwata was growing nervous about how the Wii U presentation was going, so he just threw the SSB announcement out there out of said nervousness. Sakurai sure wasn't keen on that anyway. I guess this shows that not only is it most of the fans who think that Sakurai and Miyamoto have this magic ability to make their games appear out of thin air, but parts of Nintendo themselves as well. As if SSB hasn't corrupted the Nintendo fandom quite enough already...

Sakurai sure wasn't keen on that anyway. Didn't Sakurai say right after the presentation that they had been discussing it because he kept coming up with new ideas for Smash Bros. while working on Kid Icarus? 'cause that's the way I remember it. I watched the Wii U presentation live, and I never got the impression it was going badly. There was far more cheering and excitement in the crowd than there was during Microsoft and Sony's presentations. As if SSB hasn't corrupted the Nintendo fandom quite enough already... ...What? Did I... did I miss something? I was under the impression that Smash Bros. was one of the best things that's happened in the Nintendo fandom. It brought all our favourite franchises together, it brought Fire Emblem to the west, it brought Metroid and Kid Icarus back from the dead, it caused this website to exist... and so on and so on.

But as a result, how many people actually gave a shit about series like F-Zero, WarioWare, Fire Emblem (outside of Marth/Ike/Roy), Star Fox games that aren't SF64, non-Samus-herself Metroid, etc? Not too many, frankly. Besides, such cameos happen in most of Nintendo's games all the time.

Um, many more than who would otherwise? I had never heard of Metroid or F-Zero before SSB64, but I've bought most games that've come out since for both series because I thought they were cool characters. Are you under the impression that more people would be playing F-Zero games now if Captain Falcon wasn't in Smash Bros.? Because I can assure you you are mistaken. The only difference would be that the people whose only knowledge of F-Zero is Captain Falcon would not even know who Captain Falcon is, and the people who got into the F-Zero series through SSB would not have ever heard of F-Zero.
