I personally believe 2013-2014 will be the year SSB4 comes out, so making fake lists right now is absurd. Not to say some are a certainty for a few people out there (like S. Goroh, Bowser Jr., Ghirahim and Ridley), but if anything, I think we should at least wait for Sakurai to confirm that his team has started developing the game.
But if I had to say which character would make it, which wouldn't and which might or might not be playable, in my opinion, then it would go like so:
[/li][li] King K. Rool OR Dixie - Both seem more like a stretch, but I highly doubt both will be in at the same time. Their relativity to the series has been little to none lately, but no one can say they've been forgotten.
[/li][li] Takamaru - Also a bit of a stretch, but if I had to think of a forgotten series that would be included in the next Super Smash Bros., it would have to be Takamaru (can't see it being Starfy, honestly)
[/li][li] Samurai Goroh - If the F-Zero series has to have another character as playable, the best shot would be Capt. Falcon's rival, Samurai Goroh.
[/li][li] Some 5G pokemon, most probably Zoroark - I don't need to say much, do I?
[/li][li] Ridley - I can't believe I've seen Ridley so much. He's way bigger than the biggest of SSBB characters, and unlike Bowser, his size never really changes much in the series (Ridley-X and Metroid I's Ridley not counting). Plus, if Ridley's size were to be reduced to even slightly bigger than Bowser, then he'd lose a lot of character, since he's supposed to be way bigger than Samus, AKA intimidating. He work great as a Boss, nothing more.
[/li][li] Claus - Ok, I really don't think he'd make it, but if you'd want another Mother/Earthbound playable character, then he'd be the one, since he'd be able to use PSI, but also other gadgets, like beam sword and arm cannon. In other words, he'd be more than a (semi)clone to Ness and Lucas, while still being relative to the series.
[/li][li] Meowth - *sneezes* I'm sorry, I'm allergic to (stupid) fanboyism (and please don't defend him, there isn't anything anyone could say to make me think otherwise).

Either way, over the next few years games will continue to come out, and those games could possibly include new characters to their respective series, like Magnus and the new Fire Emblem's main character. I personally would love to see an Axe, Lance or Staff wielder, but they're either too small compared to others (Hector in Fire Emblem USA) or not relevant enough now a days (Krystal from Starfox: Whatever). I'm also certain some character may leave, like Lucario, Ike and Jigglypuff (just as examples, but they're the ones I personally see leaving if characters are to leave).
If I had to fall into fanboyism, I'd say that they'd have to make alternate costumes/textures more detailed. For example, SSBS's Fusion Suit Samus is super lazy, as is all of Sonic's alt. costumes. I could say more, but it depends on how the WiiU will work.

But if I had to say which character would make it, which wouldn't and which might or might not be playable, in my opinion, then it would go like so:
- Anthony Higgs - "Oh, Other M was so bad, Samus' image was ruined, the game was so linear, yada yada yada". Cry some more, you must be able to see that he is one of the few characters important to the series, other than Adam, Mother Brain, Ridley and (somewhat) Dark Samus.
- Ghirahim - Finally, a good and interesting LoZ villain that isn't Ganon(dorf), with Vaati and Zant in a distant 3rd and 4th, respectively. He also has enough abilities to make a moveset. [Skyward Sword spoiler]Also, Demise could work as a Ganondorf Texture instead of a Final Smash for Ghirahim. Ghirahim would instead use his Sword Spirit form from the 3rd battle against him.

Eggplant Wizard makes a much better AT.
Eggplant Wizard as Assist Trophy.
