Oh, great. I just started saving up money for some 3DS games. Oh, well. But in all seriousness, if this is true, Generation 3 was my least favorite. I wonder if the inevitable remake would turn it around.

The character art seems fake, while I dont doubt this will happen with time, I just dont believe these screenshots.

On the one hand, I expect this will be true in the not too distant future... On the other hand I totally agree with Flint that these particular images look fake. The characters are leaning and their eyes and mouths are screwy (very fanarty) and the bland choice of screenshots just scream doctored.

Were the two characters always wearing leggings / tights / skins / whatever under their clothes?
As has already been said, this is inevitable, but I don't think this is real. I expect Grey first, too.
EDIT: Actually it would seem the boy went from normal pants to wearing pants UNDER his shorts in Emerald. So this is actually a less ridiculous change, even though it still looks stupid.

Fake to my eyes, too. A remake will happen. It's logical and Masuda has hinted at it. But not yet... I'd also expect a "Gray Version" to appear first because it's been revealed that Kyurem will be in the 15th Pokémon movie. That could still be a wrong hint, though. Nonetheless, I propose we keep this thread alive and post theories on what will we see in the remakes

Lol, I wouldn't doubt it's fake. You'd think if this was a magazine scan, news would be flooding the internet.
I'm betting when we DO get them, they'll be released for 3DS with every Pokemon to catch. Sort of like a completely new version.

Weren't they gonna announce something Pokemon related this month? Though it's probably gonna be some stupid ass spinoff
If they remake Ruby/Sapphire then they should do like HG/SS and allow trading pronto. I like replaying through these games with these weird gen mix teams
Oh and bring back the HG/SS follow thing. It was a small but fun detail

Any name ideas? My idea for an awesome Ruby/Sapphire remake would be like this: - Ruby remake is Ruby storyline; Sapphire remake is Sapphire storyline. You get to catch only Groudon in Ruby and only Kyogre in Sapphire. You battle Team Magma in Ruby and Team Aqua in Sapphire. Wallace is the eighth Gym Leader. Steven Stone is the Champion.
- Pokémon Contests return, with added Contest properties to each of the 5th-generation moves
- Exception: you cannot catch (perhaps even encounter) Rayquaza.
- After beating Steven, you unlock an "Emerald Quest". It can be accessed from the main menu as a second save file of sorts. From this "Emerald Quest", you can't initially access the Pokémon you caught and trained in the main quest. You start over again, possibly with the choice of a Kanto starter.
- Wild Pokémon include some from Kanto, and a few from Johto and Sinnoh. Especially in the Safari Zone. Regular Trainers use Pokémon from all regions; Gym Leaders do, too.
- "Emerald Quest" is the Emerald storyline. You battle both Team Magma and Team Aqua. Juan is the eighth Gym Leader. Wallace is the Champion. Steven Stone is a wandering Trainer that joins you at times.
- You are able to catch Rayquaza now. You also get to catch the remaining mascot legendary (opposite to the version you own): Kyogre in the Marine Cave (Ruby) or Groudon in the Terra Cave (Sapphire).
- Battle Tents have replaced most Contest Halls, like in Emerald.
- Dream World access will be unlocked by one of the scientists at Devon Corporation (remember the failed projects? One of them was a machine meant to project Pokémon dreams). Unova Pokémon with hidden abilities will finally be obtainable in this update.
- After you beat Wallace, you get to access all of your Pokémon in any of the two modes.
- After you beat Wallace, you can enter the Battle Frontier in any of the two modes.

Replaying the game with a second savefile second-quest style is, together with a game that features all first 4 contintents, one of the best things they can do with the old formula. Also you can bet your life savings they will never ever ever actually make a game like that

I wish something like the second quest thing happened because unlike 2nd-generation, the stuff in the third version (Emerald in this case) would be harder to fuse with the former 2 versions. The NPCs, the locations of the main events, etc. Not like it's impossible, but...

Actually, them upping the ante by having all four continents/countries in one game would make sense. Black and White takes place on the other side of the Pokemon world, so them remaking Ruby and Sapphire with the other regions playable would be a be-all-end-all of that area. Since Ruby and Sapphire takes place during Red's journey in Kanto, you'd have a never before seen Johto and Sinnoh that would have unique stories to them. You might even be able to visit a young Gold or Lucas/Dawn.
But, this'll never happen. Why Nintendo, why?

So...I never played far into Emerald. I'd gotten tired of Hoenn by that point. What's it got that RuSa don't? Aside from Stephen not being the champion so the not-as-awesome gay Wallace can be. In either case, I'll probably get one of the two remakes (instead of my normal habit, which is to pick up both so I can train two teams) when they come out, mostly because...well, still kind of tired of Hoenn. Why? Because 33% of the game takes place on water routes. Don't get me wrong, it makes for some really interesting locales, but fuuuuuuhck that so hard. You'll drive yourself broke stocking up on Max Repels just to get anywhere expediently. You also have to wonder, Gen3 was when they first started remaking old generations to begin with, with FireRed and LeafGreen. I really, seriously doubt it means much, but...could they remake Gen1 again? I know Nintendo loves making money and the main Pokemon titles are always a guaranteed hit, but even I think that's a bit overkill, furthered by being able to visit Kanto in HGSS. Regardless, I admit I do like the fan interpretations of Gen3.5's trainers, though Ruby's "shorts over pants" is very, uh, effeminate.

What I'd like out of a Gen 3 remake:
Emerald plot updated to blend with version. Access to Kanto and Johto, which one depending on version. Brendan and May retain their old designs. Champion: Stephen.
What I'd expect:
Emerald plot. Access to a handful of Kanto/Johto/Sinnoh Pokemon. Brendan and May get updated to look even more hipster. Champion: Wall-ass.
Clearly, low expectations.

Both evil groups take turns being jerks and you gotta infiltrate both their bases before they awaken both uber monsters. Getting to Rayquaza is part of the story now too, but they removed the holes in the floor so it's less of a pain to get to him. Oh and supposedly there's some post-E4 place where you can battle with silly rules, but I never tried it as my save corrupted the moment the credits were done rolling, heyooo
