According to Kotaku, a sequel to 2010's Sonic & Sega All Star Racing was outed when SaSASR2 (Sonic Toot Toot Racing 2/STTR2 for short) were spotted in a showcase during the recent New York Toy Fair. I'm kinda psyched about this. I really liked STTR1 (despite initial gripes), and I would put it above several Mario Kart games. (In particular: Double Dash, Super Circuit and MK7.) I look forward to seeing the roster, courses and music that will be in this one. Source!

Aww, harshin' on the MK7 there! I wouldn't mind so much if you had also called out MK Wii for all of its bullshit! I do like these crossover games, but I'm curious what the new characters would be. Sega haven't exactly been wowing the world with new franchises lately. There's a handful of characters that were rumoured or nearly made it into the first game: - ToeJam & Earl - Gilius Thunderhead (Golden Axe) - Vyse (Skies of Arcadia) - Segata Sanshiro (weird Saturn marketing character) Then I guess you could get Ristar in there. Who else? I could list a load of really old, obscure Sega characters (because I love doing that), but is there anything more recent?

I was kinda surprised they didn't add anything Phantasy Star related last time time. Or Puyopuyo for that matter. Not exactly small time series.
As for recent franchises, maybe Valkyria Chronicles? Just add a bunch of anime soldiers riding a tank or something

If this is true, Vyse better be in it, and then I may buy it.

Aside from the crap graphics, it was pretty fun and I loved the bikes. (Shame they've been left at the curb, so to speak.) MK7 isn't bad, per se, but just kinda...average. No, Super Circuit is the true abomination to the series, and while Double Dash isn't AS bad, it's still subpar. XD Anyway, the only character I can think of off the top of my head that wasn't in the first game (and is still a prolific Sega character) is NiGHTS. You're right: Sega hasn't been doing much in the way of new and recognizable franchises. My main hope is that, aside from Vyse (obviously), that we get more Jet Set Radio lovin'. It's almost a given that Beat will be in the game in some form, but Gum would be a nice addition. (Hopefully Jet Grind Radio Gum. She's got a classy sexiness to her. Whereas Jet Set Radio Future Gum is just a tramp. Don't really want.)

Get out.
Hopefully Ristar will be more than just a background gag this time. And even more hopefully Mario will pop up if they make a Wii version of this one.

If Toejam and Earl and Segata Sanshiro aren't in this game, SEGA can go fuck itself.
Ditto with the Streets of Rage characters that almost made it in, but not to the same extent.

Sega don't own Toejam & Earl. They wanted to put them in the last one, but they couldn't come to an agreement with the copyright owner. That's also the reason Toejam & Earl wasn't on the Mega Drive Collection and isn't available on Live Arcade or PSN.

I've read they DID reach an agreement, but it was too late in dev to do it. Hence why it would be easier to do it in this game.

I'm skeptical, purely because of the fact that it's still not on Xbox or PS3, despite topping polls asking what should be ported next several times.
TJ&E is my favourite Mega Drive game, and I'd love nothing more than for them to be in it, but I don't have much hope for it. I'm just hoping for Axel, Ristar or maybe Ecco in some kind of crazy fishtank on wheels.

Sounds to me like it was mostly due to the creator wanting more money than Sega was willing to give him. Here we are three years later and TJ&E still isn't on Live Arcade, so they haven't come to an agreement on that... I don't see why this would be any different. I hadn't heard about those DS game plans, though. Man, I wish that'd happened. I'm not fond of the Dreamcast-era designs for the characters, but playable Peabo? Yes please.
