...What implied suicide?

Anyway...cool to see some old Gym Leaders and Champions return! Seeing them all makes me feel like this might be a culmination of everything the Pokemon series has presented us thus far, particularly with Giovanni and the supposed resurgence of Team Rocket. The only way it would be improved is if some of the old trainers made their appearances. It'd be neat to see Red, Gold and Sapphire one more time. I wonder if the fact that there's Steven instead of Wallace means they intend the potential Hoenn remakes to be like Ruby and Sapphire more than like Emerald. Though it wouldn't be the first time they choose him for cameos: you get to see Steven and not Wallace in HG/SS, and there's a reference to Steven in Platinum. I guess this theme from the B/W soundtrack will finally have a matching use now that Blue and other Champions will be there. I heard this is used for the finals in Pokémon Battle Competition tournaments. Apparently it's used in the Battle Subway as well, I suppose when you battle the Subway Leader in a really high streak. I've never checked for myself though... A similar track is Black/White's SEQ_Dummy. It's actually Icirrus' City music without variable scoring (accordion player, clapping group, harmonica player). I've heard it was used in playable demos for the game. Probably used as the default music, though I haven't checked, because Diamond/Pearl's SEQ_DUMMY is most often used in Mystery Zones, and was used in the Diamond/Pearl demos. There was a funny rumour when the Unity Tower was revealed and people didn't exactly know what it was that Blue would appear for battle on the final floor. IIRC, this track and the Unity Tower were uncovered at about the same time. That would be fun though.

I've played that event, and I don't remember that happening... then I watched that video and didn't see it happen... so I still have no idea what you're talking about. EDIT: Oh, okay, I just read the comments on the video. I guess people mistook the radio static for a splash and then assumed that hearing a splash means Giovanni killed himself? People are crazy. XD

It's not the radio because the sound doesn't appear when they're like "We're at Radio Tower". He did not have any Pokemon with surf...I'm pretty convinced he jumped off. I don't think he killed himself, though.

Three of his Pokemon can learn surf though!
Anyway I think it's neat seeing old the old gym leaders/champions pop up. Black/White main's absent from the scans tho. I have a feeling dude's hanging around some endgame only accessible snowy peak with his rare candy infused Pokemon. Gotta keep the tradition alive
The new legendary forms are pretty goofy, but still better than the cloud genie triplets if you ask me.

This Giovanni thing is so funny, I'm actually going to check my game and watch closely the order of sounds and text in the event xD I'd like to learn what the Japanese dialog says as well.

I just seemed like audio signposting to let you know the next line of dialogue is coming from the radio, not Lyra, to me. It wasn't needed earlier because the earlier line is "This is the radio tower". I might believe it was a splash if it played when Giovanni left, but it plays when the radio's dialogue appears.
Still, even if it was a splash, it's a pretty ridiculous jump to make to say "I heard a splash, he must have commited suicide". XD
EDIT: Also, Giovanni's cave is behind a waterfall, not at the top of one... unless he just plain can't swim, it'd be hard for him to kill himself by hopping into a pool.

Even behind a waterfall he can be pretty high up. And, well, walking through a waterfall doesn't make a sound that loud, or it doesn't sound any different than the waterfall's raging itself. A sound like that would have to be a splash. A big one, like he just jumped a really long way. And the sound plays when the radio message pops up because, well, look at the message. "Where did Giovanni go? I wonder if he heard our broadcast" It seems to me that it's used for ironic effect.

It isn't that high up, and he doesn't have to pass through the waterfall to get out (unless he really was hopping into the pool for a quick swim before leaving). You can get to his cave at any point in the game, but all you'll find without Celebi is a broken radio. It's behind the left waterfall.
But, more importantly, why is this debate happening, he obviously didn't commit suicide, he's in the new game! I can't think of any better evidence than that.

The argument was more whether he jumped (either it was an escape or a failed attempt) then whether he commit suicide. <_<
There's the possibility that the tournament isn't canon though. Look at the magazine! They're reusing old artwork and sprites when everyone should look much older. They could even have put Giovanni in as fanservice.

They could even have put Giovanni in as fanservice. Although I'm not convinced of this silly Giovanni thing, I could agree with that. They could come up with something crazy like it being a Musharna's dream or whatever. But it's interesting how all the Kanto guys look like in HG/SS (in artwork and sprite). This can be added to other things that imply B/W and B2/W2 to be placed after HG/SS, like the backstory and dialogs for Caitlin or the (unavailable) event for unlocking TM95.

They could even have put Giovanni in as fanservice. I think, as a general rule, if it's in the game, it's canon. Otherwise we're getting into a really messy territory where anything, at any time could be claimed to be non-canon, including Giovanni's entire existence. XD I don't think the reuse of old artwork really makes any difference... they're also reusing artwork for most pre-Gen V Pokémon, and they reused Cynthia and Looker's DPP artwork for BW. Come to think of it, they reused Giovanni's FRLG artwork for HGSS, too. Presumably the sprites will be fully animated now, as all BW2 trainer sprites are. And at the very least, Steven seems to have a completely new sprite.
