"What? Nintober? But it's June!" I hear you bellow.
Well yes, but unlike last year where I was working at the last minute for nearly every entry, this year I'd like to get some planning in and make the whole process a bit easier on myself. Hopefully it will mean a slight increase in quality too.
Anyway, at this stage all I'm looking for is general topics. I'm running out of Nintendo villains to do, so I'm thinking of changing it up a little. There's a few options I'm considering:
1. Third party final bosses from NES games. 2. Third party villains from all Nintendo consoles. 3. Third party villains from any console.
Yes yes, is it really Nintober if it's not on Nintendo? At the moment I like the idea of the first one most because it's focused, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to fill a month's worth. But perhaps we could.
Let me know which idea you like most and perhaps make some suggestions.

I'm inclined to agree on 1. Among non-Nintnedo options, this one is still close to the Nintendo theme. Other generations will have more ports and cross-platform games, making most third party games not Nintendo-exclusive, which I'd say loses part of Nintober's charm.
Are you going to stick to one topic for a whole month? In other words, third party final bosses only if 1 is picked, no exception, no semi-final bosses, no Nintendo first-party bosses (uh... game bosses, not the business ones) and such?
I'd have a few suggestions for Nintendo (non-final) bosses, in case you want to stick to Nintendo again. Zelda SS, Kid Icarus Uprising, Fire Emblem 13, Kirby Wii, Kirby Mass Attack all have good catalogs of bosses to pick from.

The idea is to stick to the selected topic, so if I do all NES final bosses then I will try to fill the whole month with them.
However, one of the reasons I'm asking this early for any ideas is that it may be the case, if I choose #1 (which you're right, is closest to the spirit of Nintober), then there may not be 31 suitable candidates. In which case, I will open up the floor to sub-bosses as well. If I choose #2 or #3, I may decide to set a date limit to focus mainly on older games. Who knows?
At this stage I'm still working out the guidelines. I expect working out the baseline and compiling a list will take some time. By the time I've tracked down some Longplays or screenshots, roughed out some sketches and am ready to start, I expect October will be rapidly approaching.

I'd say you could probably fill a whole month with option 1. It might be a little easier to fill it if you do a mixture of first and third-party NES bosses, though. And maybe that'd make a nice transition into doing a full lineup of third-party ones next time, or something.
Looking forward to it, whatever you decide to go with. The ones you did last year were amazing!

I think you could easily come up with 31 NES third-party bosses. So I would go for Option 1, myself. I'd be happy to help coming up with potentials if you'd like.

Option 1...you guys? Seriously? All he does is NES characters! Fry, for the sake of honing your craft, I say option 3. But if you TRULY want to keep a "Nintendo" theme, then do option 2.

Does the console the characters are from really make a difference in that sense? There's a pretty big range of styles on the NES, from super simple (like Adventures of Lolo) to super realism (like Castlevania). Sure, that's not reflected in-game most of the time, but I expect Fry won't be drawing purely from the sprites.

Yeah I'll go with #2 myself, but only mostly because SNES specifically isn't an option

I'd go with #1, but mostly because I'm a nostalgic doofus who's convinced the NES is filled with memorable final bosses.
I guess the villains still have to be spoooooky to fit in the halloween theme? Is exploding Hitler considered spooky?

Castlevania is practically MADE for Nintober!

Well it IS called "Nintober" ;D
Besides, there are several reasons for the break from first party. On the one hand, most of the good ones have been done in past Nintobers, leaving only a few remaining. On the other, I've been doing a lot of research into other publishers lately, and may expand this out into an extension of NinDB at some point in the future. Or at the very least a kind of Videogaming All-Stars art/research project (combining my love of the two).
If I were to extend the NES option to include the SNES and GB as well, would that appease more people? There's probably some monstrous RPG bosses worth doing on the SNES.
Oh, and please... If anyone wants to start throwing out ideas now, please do! I will compile them and then put together a full month's list closer to drawin'-time!

Well it IS called "Nintober" ;D The fact that it's June should mean the prefix matters as much as the suffix But if you are gonna do SNES and Gameboy, then lemme suggest... Giovanni with Rhydon - Pokemon Vile - Mega Man X Kefka - Final Fantasy VI Big Boss - Metal Gear

SNES is my favorite console and I don't think I'm the only one who has that opinion. Let's see: Lavos - Chrono Trigger Dracula from Castlevania, of course. Mana Beast - Secret of Mana Shredder - TMNT4 Turtles in Time (Do they have to be game characters? <_<)

I personally wouldn't weigh myself down with limitations, but as you said, it's called Nintober for a reason. Because of that, I'd go with option 2, and include some new Nintendo bosses that have come out since the last Nintober. Some that come to mind are Ghirahim, Demise (with The Imprisoned in the backdrop), a Bunch of Kid Icarus: Uprising bosses (don't know their names, I haven't bought the game yet :X), Metal Gear Rex, Sigma, Volgin and the Shagohod, Lavos (any/all forms) and The Black Knight (yeah, I know that he was cut out last second last year, but I still find him the "scariest" FE boss I've faced =P). You've also got characters from the 3 Rainfall games as well. Of course, I can't give names again cause I don't own said games yet. Anyway, whatever you choose, I'm sure it'll come out great.

Yeah you know what, going with #2 or adding SNES and GB to that list is probably for the best. Turns out a lot of the NES final bosses are generic giant veiny meatpiles. Anyway here's a bunch without going too much into vague/obscure territory: - Dracula (Castlevania) - Kimkoh, aka that two faced spider thing (Super C) - Gofer or Bacterion (Gradius 2/3) - Dracolord (Dragon Quest 1) - Eyedol (Killer Instinct) - Dr. Wily (2 billion Megamans) - Astaroth (Ghosts 'n Goblins) - Lavos (Chrono Trigger) - M.Bison (SFII) - Sigma (Megaman X) - Phalanx (Demon's Crest) - Flintheart Glomgold's crazy elastiman transformation (Ducktales II) - Tomator (Lost Vikings) - King Egger (Lolo & Lala) - Spider Gremling (Gremlings II) - Crazy mutated girlfriend (Abadox) - Exploding Hitler (Bionic Commando)Also semi-related I just noticed your Konami uploads at DA.
