I'm gonna say it, Koops: I want an 8-bit Halo. I want to hear the Song of Time on Mario Paint. I want to watch as gaming goes retro for a while. What's so wrong about that? Nothing. And neither is what you're thinking. But neither is as important an issue as you seem to think. Expecting everything to be perfect leads to complaints like "Sonic's eyes are green this game sucks" or "Oh my God this game has terrible graphics because that Jeep's antenna" and no one wants to be that guy.

To me, Mario trying to pioneer 3D platforming now rather than 2D nowadays (which explains the recurrent "nostalgia-themed feel" on NSMB-games), has led the team to give more love and work to those games, since it needs a wonderful and epic presentation to catch our interests. While I'd agree a bit that NSMB would use something so it won't look same over and over again (maybe by a new art style taking advantage of Wii U's graphical power), the game doesn't still change.
If they haven't still considered giving a major overhaul to NSMB-series in means of creativity and effort, then I don't see why it needs to get a better graphical presentation now- since it already does well by Mario-standards (delivering fun gameplay still and providing loads of success as usual for Nintendo)

Look at that water, that wood, that grass. Why can't they have that in the NSMB games? That's all I ask. Is that so bad? No, that's not so bad. But isn't the games using the same art style as each other something you were complaining about last time? Personally I like NSMBU's arts-and-crafts environments a lot more than Galaxy's more realistic ones, for the same reason I think Yoshi's Island looks a lot better than Donkey Kong Country, and Wind Waker looks better than any other Zelda. To me, stuff like this is ten times prettier than anything Galaxy did. So, my question is, why should I have to lose the graphics I like so you can have the ones you want, even though the ones you want are already available elsewhere?

That's beautiful, Koopaul, I will give you that. But that kind of visuals seem more suited for a Yoshi's Island game than a Super Mario Bros. game. Oh god, oh! Why aren't Nintendo making a new Yoshi's Island game?! It would look so amazing in HD on the Wii U.

The world map from the manual. Note the final world.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! After years of complaining about how same the NSMB games are, especially with Peach's Castle being seen in the background in the first level, and what does Nintendo do about that? Make Peach's Castle itself the final level instead of Bowser's Castle!!!!

Important fact: This is the first main-series Mario game to feature a full world map of the Mushroom Kingdom. The only other game to map the Mushroom Kingdom was Super Mario Bros. 3, which did not show where the worlds were in relationship to each other. This does not count RPGs, which first did this in Super Mario RPG.

All these worlds are to the bottom left of Peach's castle, while in the other NSMB games you were going right. I guess we are seeing what's on the other side of the kingdom.

It's more than just "To the right" or "Down and left." Unlike every other Mario game, you actually have a compass. This is, in fact, southwest of Peach's Castle. Also, I expect to see some streams of alcohol and cigarette trees in those mines.

Have some 5-minute gameplay video.
5 more minutes, although I think it's not new.
