To put all the apparent negativity aside (now 100% flagpole-free!), let's start a new topic about this game.

I'm excited about this game for several reasons.
1. It is a new 2D Mario game. 2. It has an interconnected world map like Super Mario World 3. 1P players can play as Luigi or a Toad. (The closest thing I have to Toad's own game.) 4. Yoshis and Baby Yoshis! 5. Koopalings are still around.

Boost Rush mode trailer (slightly old but unposted)
Co-op trailer (because who didn't know this game had co-op?)

Boost Rush videos:
New observations:
- New overworld and atheletic theme, but the castle theme is the same old stuff (my bet is that the rest of the music are all old) - Balloon Yoshi gives seemingly infinite jumps - Boost Rush: coin = speed, max speed is outright crazy - Twimps are now defeatable by hitting the ? block below - The blocks created by Player 5 cannot overlap with existing elements, and the suit symbol on it diminishes over time - jump on it before it disappears for coins - The enemies aren't the only ones that dance to the music - now the Miis in the background do too - Lemmy throws bombs - Wendy fights like SMB3, but the fight is on ice and more difficult

Interesting. That "Mushroom Bandit" as they are calling it, might be Bowser Jr. in disguise. Why else would it be wearing Junior's neckerchief.

I can think of a few good reasons.

Let me guess. Bowser Jr. becomes amnesiac and finds himself with Popple, who names him Rookie Jr.
...
But in all seriousness, I wonder what role that Mushroom Bandit will play. I doubt it'll just be a random enemy.

Until we see Mushy in action, I don't consider any option invalid. He really could be anything from just a generic grunt to the absolutely finalest boss.

Why else would it be wearing Junior's neckerchief. Designed by the same artist, maybe? Neckerchief aside, he just looks like a random enemy to me. My guess would be that he functions like a moving item block, forcing you to chase him down to get your powerups.

Or maybe he appears in Toad houses as a mini game opponent.

Maybe he steals lives from you, like that gnome in Macro Zone in SML2.

That's what he does.
This is getting leaps and bounds better already. Really, people would be a lot happier about this if they...just didn't make NSMB2 at all. That's what got most of us so pissed about this one initially.

I'm not sure 'most' of us where pissed about this one at any point. Its a HD 2D Mario and means we get a new Mario game at launch for the first time in yonks. Who could hate? Idiots, maybe.

I always thought some of the anger was resulting from getting two NSMB games in the same year. (with less than a 6 month gap between them).
People wern't complaining about NSMB U tech demo at last years E3, and there were complaints when NSMB 2 was revealed earilier this year (visual similairity), and than when E3 2012 came round than people really started complaining.
The irony is that these NSMB games (have been said by Iwata) to be the only ones for these systems, so we are probably going to experience a good 5 year gap* until we get a new 2D Mario (most likely for the next Nintendo handheld). So expect to people to complain about a lack of 2d Mario in the future.
* 5 year is estimate based on 6 year hardware cycle.
