Let this be the start of a thread that will be alive from now until October 2013. Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be the next generation of Pokémon games, to be released globally for Nintendo 3DS. And to kick it off... the names of the legendary mascots of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be, respectively, Starter Pokes shown (Grass... something in a costume, Fire (Fennec) Fox, Water Frog) Additional Megaton: The 'first' version is Blue, the secondary is now 'Red'

Xerneas gives me this huge Dialga vibe, due to the colors on it and that it's quadrupedal being. As for types, I think I can safely say Grass/Something for Xerneas and Something/Flying for Yveltal.

What on earth implies it is grass? The fact its pictured in the jungle?

More than mathematical, there seems to be a genetic theme going on with these legendaries and game versions (take a look at the Japanese logos and Xerneas' chromosome-like antlers), and more often than not, when a genetic/organelle theme has been used for Pokémon designs, they have been Psychic-type. Mew, Mewtwo, Deoxys, Solosis, Duosion, Reuniclus. But types have always been unpredictable for title legendaries, so don't make a bet on it.

Alright now that this has it's own thread: that Y bird kinda weirds me out. It's like it has paperthin, transparent skin with visible blood vessels.
I'm also a little saddened about the loss of the good ol' sprites. Ofcourse it was going to happen since it's on the 3DS, but I always found some of the mons to look a little plasticy in 3D. Ah, I'll get used to it. Plus there's always Ken Sugimori's artwork.

Don't you hate it when you say an ex's name by mistake?

It would be really annoying if Fennekin evolves into yet another Fire/Fighting Pokemon. It would be nice if it evolves into a Fire/Psychic Pokemon or something else other than a Fire/Fighting Pokemon. I also hope that Chespin and Froakie evolve into Pokemon with secondary types. It's really annoying that most of the Grass starters only have one type (Meganium, Sceptile, and Serperior) and most of the Water starters only have one type (Blastoise, Feraligatr, Samurott). Oh well, at least Chespin is not another reptile-based Grass starter. So that's something...

Will nobody post random fakes like last generation?

The water dragon looks pretty cool but random. A frog evolves into a dragon? Then again, we did have a fish evolve into an octopus. Anyway, I really like the sumo frog.
Also, if the fox evolves into a furry, then I feel sorry for it. Just ask Lucario and Zoroark.

I think the 3rd dragon form's a jab towards last gen's otter ending up as a seal with a pointy hat I like this final Chespin idea, just because it looks like a Sandslash with grass armor. It'll likely end up like this spikey tubby though. Doesn't matter, no crazy final form will come between me and my happy hathog The official artwork for the two legendaries were also released a while back. Like 'em a whole lot better already, also Y bird's channeling a bit of Lugia there

Could anybody be kind enough to translate the pink and orange characters to the left of the smiley in this picture? From a similar previous logo (and other hints), the whole world was speculating a new evolved form for Eevee given that all characters (and their colors) seemed to match each member of the Eevee family, and the central, non-alphabetical symbol that looks like a butterfly could mean a new one. There are now 2, though! And they do look alphabetical. Attachments:

Eevee Akiyama Friends Akiyama is either the name of an illustrator for the Pokémon games or someone else or something entirely different. It literally means "autumn mountain", but it's more likely to be a Japanese surname. Previous logo says "Pikachu & Eevee Friends", if anyone ever needs transliteration of katakana characters. I think they just ran out of Eevees to meaningfully color Akiyama's name.

Thanks, YL!
New update from the official site: Chespin is pure Grass, Fennekin is pure Fire, and Froakie is pure Water.
