Thanks, YL! New update from the official site: Chespin is pure Grass, Fennekin is pure Fire, and Froakie is pure Water. You're welcome! Pure type starters has always been the case if I'm not mistaken. It's when they evolve that they gain their secondary type. Naturally, the official site isn't covering this yet. Fennekin doesn't look like it'll be Fire/Fighting, but then, neither did Torchic.

Bulbasaur was Grass/Poison even in his first stage, but then the first gen was super weird.

Wait, Pokémon X and Y aren't just placeholder titles? What happened to colors/precious metals?

Wait, Pokémon X and Y aren't just placeholder titles? What happened to colors/precious metals? er . . . they ran out of good titles? But here's some reasons for "X & Y" (that we know of with the limited infomation avalible at this time originally posted in the Nintendo Direct thread. From Bulbagarden, via GAF

So, I just had a Pokemon-related dream. I was walking through a grassy route early in the morning when I got a weather forecast warning me about asteroids or hail or volcanic rocks. I got hit by a falling rock and then I entered a battle with a new Pokemon based on Triops but it would evolve into a Pokemon that looked like a three-eyed Pyramid Head.

I expect Froakie to evolve into something like this zeldawiki.org/images/d/d3/Zephos.png it already gives me a Benjamin Franklin vibe, so I could se it becoming Water/Flying, Water/Electric. As for the new Eevee, that reeks to a Normal type Evee

Bah how boring would that be to end up being just a Normal type. Why would they keep that a secret?

Maybe they're going to introduce a butt-ugly type and that will be its first member.

Pink is pretty much the national colour of the Normal type, though the butterfly bows and blue tips on those ribbons give me a little bit of a flying type vibe.

Pink is also associated with many Psychic types too.

But we already have psychic!
I wonder if this is the only eeveelution we'll get this generation, because I kinda really want a dragon-type one now (and I'll eat my sock if this one's a dragon-type.)

Maybe it's Flying-type and it's exclusive to Y version... And maybe there is a Ground-type Eevee that is exclusive to X version... And there is a Ghost-type Eevee that is exclusive to Z version.
My reasoning: Y-axis is vertical, ergo Flying-type. X-axis is horizontal, hence Ground-type. Z-axis leaves the plane (of existence), therefore Ghost-type.

So, it turns out this evolution has been 'hiding in plain sight' for a while now. The logo for the upcoming Eevee short for the new Pokemon movie had a letter of each coloured like an Eevee-lution, and look what is in the middle: There are also stars there for some reason. Star-themed Eevee incoming? Also, many people (inlcuding myself) are inclined to think this may be a female only evolution, and one of the more interesting theories I've seen is that the two bows represent XX Chromosomes, and a counterpart male Eevee would have an XY formation on it (I've seen suggestions that a necktie could work for a Y, for example). I'm inclined to go with this for now, I quite like the theory.

That might just be Espeon. If you count how many characters there are, there's just enough.
